As I recall, if a team was over the cap, they could not do anything in FA until they reduced their cap. If that still holds true, teams like Dallas, Denver, GB, Giants, and Jets would have to cut players to play.

I've also heard nothing on playoff teams being limited on what they can do, although I believe this is history for at least this year.

IF teams need to cut players before FA to do anything, this adds to the 450 available players.

I'm guessing Bryan Thomas is going to be cut from NY.

I think many are assuming Marion Barber to be a casualty for the Cowboys. Their priority right now is making sure they can keep Doug Free so I wouldn't be surprised to see guys like Marion Barber, Marc Colombo, maybe Kyle Kosier, Roy Williams, Keith Brooking, maybe Marcus Spears...all tossed.

The Jets seem poised to toss Damien Woody, maybe Tony Richardson, definitely Jason Taylor...some of those free agents will be escaping for sure. I think they're prioritizing keeping David Harris.

If the Giants are going to make a push to keep Ahmad Bradshaw, they're going to have to get rid of one of those OLs or maybe Rocky Bernard on the DL. For some reason they keep wanting to get rid of Osi Umenyiora.

That would make things even more interesting for Miami, No?

Doesn't seem like Miami would be interested in the kinds of players that will end up cut by these teams...old, overrated, etc.

Barber is 28, and may be interesting. Kosier as well.

I suppose Barber could be somewhat interesting but you're not going to want to give him much money as he's had that broken down look for a few years now, and it wouldn't be surprising to see a guy with that kind of physical style breaking down pre-30.

Kyle Kosier the 33 year old? Does that seem like their style?

At some point, one would suppose, the the Dolphins will be willing to sign veteran players over the age of 28 who aren't special circumstances like Jason Taylor and Chad Pennington.

It's also worth considering the adversity to veterans came from Parcells, not Ireland. Consider basically Ireland's first training-wheels free move was to what, pretty much double the amount of 30+ year old veterans the team had resigned in picking up Marques Douglas and Charles Grant after Merling went down?

Hard to have a clear view on this SB as many many times guys just take paycuts to stay with the team they are currently on.

Now one thing I did think was useful is the list of "when" veteran players bonuses come due, for example Young's bonus accrues 10 days after the 25th, will they cut him on the 25th or hold him and work the phones trying to get something out of him before they waive him?

I think DJ Williams has the same sort of situation in Denver.

Would you bring in a D. Diehl or R. Seubert to play LG? If they release Carey of course to play Garner at RT.

Equating a desperation move made out of necessity with limited available resources to a tendency to sign older players is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
