In the first 24 hours of "Maddness," Miami has made less of a splash than Flipper in his custom pool in the OB in days gone by. This is not a good or bad thing, so far. Some things to consider. Domino's Hasselbeck falls to Tenn. McNabb falls to Minny Palmer falls to the golf course T Jackson falls to Seattle Thiggy falls to Buff. Kolb and Orton remain as legit starters, and they are both pricey. Kolb will cost a VG player, and a #2. I've heard that Orton will cost a #2, a #3, and a 2 and a 3. Dilemma On top of the player or picks, both QBs will require a long term deal at $8-$10M a year. Orton has a year left on his contract at $8.4M. Ireland is in a tuff spot in signing a QB long term because of concerns of a coaching change, depending on results this year. On the other hand, getting Orton for the last year of his contract severely limits who else he can sign. Add in Soliai to the same problem. Back to Domino's. Whatever we decide at QB has a bearing on what we do at RB, and what we can comfortably afford to pay. We are players for De Williams but, that is depending on who gets paid what at QB and NT. We are also players, for a number of other RBs, for the same reason. Do we look at a lessor RB and add a COP, like Sproles or Bush, as well. We are about to have answers very soon.
IF you had to choose, would you take a lessor QB to sign a De Williams or Bradshaw or, would you take an Orton or Kolb, with a lessor RB?
southbeach you have good points and I have been pondering this very thing. I would rather have Culpepper back then give up way too much on a qb that had the worst 3rd down reccord.
I was hearing Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan talking about Orton being able to be had for a 3 or a 4, not a 2 and a 3. If it's a 2 and a 3 for Orton, this FO better be thinking Chad Henne all the way. That's just ridiculous compensation. Actually now that I think of it, maybe it wasn't Tim and Pat yesterday, it could have been the guys on the morning show with Peter King this morning. Been working too hard this week, days are starting to blur into one apparently.
According to Lombardi Twitter DeAngelo down to Giants Panthers Broncos with panthers as leaders.... That the NYG are in the mix shows that bradshaw is still in play for us.
The compensation for Orton has been all over the place. I have heard as high as a #1 pick to the low of a 4th rounder. This has been the difference between "ask for" and offer prices. Considering that Orton could not even practice until Aug 4, and "may" not be a starter, I have to think it would be tuff for us to give up much. For me, I pass regardless.
Deangelo W just resigned with Panthers. Which means the Giants will resign Bradshaw (unless we really overpay). So we will have to look at the next "tier" of RB's
