Mike Kils is the Broncos main blogger and was on top of the situation, as Darlington mentioned in a different article, Orton felt his play in 2010 was good enough that he should not have to take a reduced contract from the Broncos or the Dolphins, the two teams apparently had the trade worked out, Orton balked.

Cannot blame Ireland for that if it is how things played out, and at this point in time Moore would have been the best of what was left of a depleted and thin FA Qb class this offseason.

Still think Young should have been on the menu, but they passed and that will just have to play out.

I find that hard to believe personally. Unless the Broncos are complete idiots for letting him practice on a trade that was agreed to by the two teams.

Well, as soon as he hit the practice field that deal was dead beforehand P13, Elway and Irish had a tentative deal, Orton balked at working for less, the Broncos had no real options afterwards and paid him 1.5 millie today.

INOW, the only reason he practiced is he was not leaving Denver via a trade in the first place, and they all knew it.

Well, not from what I've heard, Elway did an interview on the Broncos flagship station and flat out denied that they wanted a #2 for him, which makes a kind of sense as that was not the problem, Orton's contract number was the problem.

I'm glad to see Young was never an option. Winning record? Maybe Tenn was just a complete team & don't give Young the credit for it. I didn't like his attitude and we and trying to develop a winning attitude. Nuff said there. If Tony & Jeff are to win or keep their jobs, it'll be w/o distractions and undisciplined players. We aren't in a position to take a chance w/players like that at this point.

IDK, for me the talent makes him worth the risk, and with the #3 Qb being an active roster spot on gamedays now, Young would have had situation value even if not starting.

BTW, rumor is the deal is not "dead" yet, it is mostly dead, which is different from completely dead.

This report doesn't pass the smell test. Likely, this is the Denver organization trying to save a little face on the mishandling of this situation on their end, so they leaked this info to a beat writer and he sent it on out. It's the world we live in.

I will echo what others have said, bravo to Ireland for sticking to his guns.

I disagree with the emphasized part. The only way Sparano and maybe Ireland keep their jobs is by making bold moves that pay off. They've cowered in their shell for 2 years and have gone 14-18 as a result. Playing it safe as they have over the last two years will get them a trip to the unemployment line. They need a Michael Vick type move.

But at least the next head coach has that 2nd or 3rd round pick in the bag to trade up for Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley.

Well, it ain't dead yet, their problem is they just paid the man 1.5 million, to then trade him makes for one heck of a "good bye gift" for a player.

Heck, if his 8.8 million included the 1.5 then 7.3 would be right around the upper limit of his value, to me that would make space for a deal but Elway maybe just digs in his heels now.

    And.....

Maybe we freed up space by canning Crowder to allow us to meet Orton halfway...

There are false pregnancies that look like real ones, but turn out not to be.

This deal maybe is like a person who drowns in ice cold water and is "dead" but then revived.

No, well he could, that rarely happens, what normally happens is the club eats the payment cost and looks really dumb for doing so.

I think the problem wasn't that we couldn't afford Orton's demands. The problem was the we didn't want to afford Orton's demands because he was looking for the kind of contract that made him a de dacto starter for the next couple of years and not a stop gap solution until we picked up a real quarterback. The space wasn't the issue; the issue was if we were prepared to make a commitment to Orton beyond 2011 and 2012.

Agreed that would take our Qb situation from one of the "5 worst" supposedly to one of the better ones in the NFL as having 3 Qb's all with extenisve starting experience and under 30 is rare in the NFL as most of the time the #3 Qb is a late rd pick or a UDFA type.

Buy a Dolphins polo and use a lot of black-grey dye?

But thanks for the link. I loved how in the middle of the interview Ross' phone goes off with the Michigan fight song and the guy seems genuinely embarassed. Good guy, from what I've gathered so far, but like Huizenga, he should play much more of a background role than he's doing right now.

They passed on VY, but my educated guess is that there was a wink, wink, nod, nod deal in place at Philly with Young...It just happened too fast and VY [and everyone else] knew that he was going to be cut...

it is what it is, no time to panic
better to not squander picks & treasure in desperation
next year will be a good draft for QB's
pick up the elite Left-Guard, re-sign Ronnie or Ricky
run the ball & hope either Henne or Pat Devlin step up

    the die is caste

If Omar Kelly is to be believed, Orton wanted Kolb money, or better said, the Kolb deal would impact the Orton situation.
