I'm watching NFL network and they were talking about the ridiculous Tebow trade to Miami and Lombardi decided to throw in his two cents about how our team is going to suck this year due to -Bush isn't a full time star anymore -Daniel Thomas has fumbling problems -Henne isn't going to get better in our new offense -Colombo's health probably wont hold up. I for one say Lombardi should go F himself! My counter to his list... -Bush is going to be used in many different ways, not just a full time back. -Daniel Thomas HAS had fumbling problems...he could get better just as Ricky did with the ball holding technique -Betting that someone wont stay healthy is a crap reason Your thoughts?
I don't know, there is a lot of talent on this team but honestly I could see a few of these things being true and the team struggling to win 8 games. We are basically counting on a Rookie RB and Henne improving to turn around the offense and that is a risky proposition. Bush could very well be undependable and not on the field much of the year, he could also be explosive and give us a huge boost on offense so really we are counting on a lot of things going our way in terms of health and player progression but we do have a chance of being a good solid playoff team if these things go well.
Well they can't say every team is going to be good, but they should state positives and negatives. I think the Bush move will be a positive as long as Daniel Thomas can handle his role of getting more carries. If Bush is starting, and Thomas is getting 5-10 carries a game, then we are in trouble. If Thomas starts and does well, and Bush gets 10-15 touches, mostly in space, he will change our offense.
Well its something I have felt since Sparano was retained. This team is lucky to win 7, and probably wins 5.
I would rather have the talking heads betting against us. Anyone remember when we were the sexy pick for the Miami Super Bowl? Yea, how'd that work out for us.
I saw that rubber necked ***** flapping his lips and thats why I stopped watching that ****. If the Phins want people to shut up then just win. Otherwise this team will be the whippping boys for a long time.
Go ahead, say what you want. Christ was also persecuted. Why didn't you say something about gamblerx's post ? But it doesn't matter I'm sure this team will make my points for me with their crappy play.
WOW! I can't believe all the negativity... Do any of you remember the team that beat the Jets for the AFC East title a couple years ago? This looks like a more complete team to me... All Henne needs to do is have less turnovers and we'll have a winning record! I do wish we would have resigned Ronnie or Ricky though. Other than that, this roster looks pretty solid!
Christ probably didn't whine as much as you. I can't be sure though, I wasn't there. It's always easier to be negative and down. Keeping optimism throughout tough times is more difficult, and probably takes more intestinal fortitude that most folks are willing to put up. Fans like you would rather have the team suck and be right so they could say "told ya so", instead of the team winning and then lurking back under those troll bridges.
There's a select few here that will call you the rah rah crowd if you aren't 100 percent gloom and doom. That ignore option is great I have put three of the spam negitive posters on ignore for awhile and this forum is once again much more enjoyable. Not sure if I ever want to take them off ignore again now.
I don't completely disagree with him either...as underachieving, that's an oxymoron....His point is the talent is suspect and unproven. If that turns out to be true, then they won't be underachievers, they simply won't have the talent. Underachieving would be that you think they have the talent and can't or don't do well. Either they have the talent to be a good team or they don't and therefore are not a good team. Personally, I have to somewhat agree with Lombardi... IF Thomas turns out to be the rock in the back field. IF Bush can be a feature back and carry the load. IF the light bulb comes on for Henne. IF the OL can become a solid unit. IF Gates or Sheets or Bush can be the speed option that we just haven't had the last 5 yrs. IF Fasano rebounds from a workmanlike year last year and shows a bit more. IF Daboll can 'wake up' the mish-mash of offensive play calling we've had for 3 yrs. IF Misi takes the next step in his development. IF Culver or Clemons or Jones or whoever becomes a that solid S presence that the D needs. IF JT has enough in the tank to be the pass rushing specialist opposite Wake... We are banking our success on a bunch of IFs and that's why Lombardi doesn't have much hope for us to be real successful. It's his opinion, but it isn't so far fetched that it's real far off base either...
Predicting the season will be a failure before the first preseason game doesn't sound like analysis it sounds like you're gutting your expectations out of fear of disappointment.
Dead on. I'm not ready to jump off a bridge like some here, but there is a basis to everything Lombardi said. The most likely scenario is that some of those IFs will pan out and some won't. I think 6-8 wins is our most likely scenario. Not saying more aren't possible, but a LOT of things have to swing our way for us to do better.
I don't whine, I just state the way I feel. You perceive it as whining because you don't want to hear it.
IF you shine a spotlight on a team's question marks and weaknesses while ignoring it's strengths and possibilities for improvement then of course you'll have a pessimistic view. But are we analyzing the team's chances or just poking holes? I ask b/c we can poke holes in all 32 teams and make them sound like garbage, if we want to.
Well Lombardi is plugged in a bit in Miami, however: -what does that even mean about Reggie Bush? -Daniel Thomas has yet to fumble in a practice -Marc Colombo may not even make the Opening Day roster Remains to be seen what Chad Henne will do in the new scheme. He is a touch premature.
Completely wrong. You lose ! I just tell it like I see it, and don't phony baloney cheer lead when I see disaster about to happen. That sir is the opposite of trolling. I care about the Dolphins, and am actually really pissed off at our situation. So much so that I take time out of my busy days to come here and post with arrogant people like you. You assume an awful lot about me, or anyone else that doesn't play cheerleader. You need to learn the definition of a troll & trolling. Because if you or anyone on this board calls me a troll they are way, way, way misinformed and really showing their complete ignorance of the word. Actually you are doing the trolling as you singled me out for ridicule, when there was a poster two posts or so above mine that basically said the same thing. However you came at my post ONLY. That sir is a troll.
Lombardi was close with Parcells, but I don't know if he has much of a relationship with the remaining members of the regime. He did break the story that Sparano would be kept prior to the NE game before the team quit and Ross took his journey to California. On his points, I think he means that we are seeking to use Reggie Bush in a way he's never been used and is unlikely to be succesful in. Don't know about Thomas's fumbling problems but I assume he eheard that from somewhere. As to Henne, who knows? I imagine we'll see some improvement. It won't take a whole lot for him to improve and his numbers to be better. That has nothing to do with whether you want to invest another 5 years at $6-8 million per on him to be your unquestioned QB.
Very well said. Lombardi speaks knowledgeably on the team so I respect his opinion a lot but we're barely a week into training camp and our offense is still in its infancy so the season win total predictions, whether high or low, are premature IMO.
What is there to see yet with this team? 6 practices? A couple of scrimmages. I think assumptions one way or the other are both without merit, but I'd rather focus energy positively than negatively. I'm cautiously optimistic with a wait and see approach. The other dude above you doesn't interject himself in every single thread where folks are trying to discuss things with their "this team sucks" and "we'll be lucky to win x amount of games". I got nothin' against you personally, or care one way or the other. Just like you said "I just tell it like I see it".
Thing is, Bush has never been injured running the ball, the pounding is not what caused his injuries, it was due to being rolled up on trying to recover fumbles by other teammates. Well, just have to let that play out, imo Sparano has done what he can to make him as successful as he can be in 2011, this after adding Beast in 2010, Henne has plenty of weapons, the rest is up to him.
I was a cheerleader the last two years. Believed in the team and pooh-poohed the naysayers. I just can't do it anymore, because I finally see what they do. The light turned on for me last year when we lost 4 of the last 5. That was it, I literally cried after they lost to Cleveland. A 50 year old man crying because I couldn't take it anymore. My beloved Dolphins had just lost 3 straight home games to three of the traditionally HORRIBLE franchises. It broke me, what can I say ? Do you really want me to come on here and fake my opinions ? I don't operate like that. I tell the truth as I see it. Our owner screwed up by not getting rid of Sparano when he could. The whole Parcells experiment has been a failure. Parcells screwed up so bad (and he knew it) that he walked away (or Ross told him to go away, we'll never know for sure). I think he realized that his choice of Sparano over Ryan was in the end, a mistake, and he knew this team was headed for what happened last year, and wanted no part of it. Now we are left with his legacy, and I think this year will take care of it. This team is built on so many "what if's" that if only about 1/2 of them come true, and that is a lot, this team can at best be around 8-8. If injuries occur, and they normally do, this team could be really pathetic. So I believe that, and I really do, and so I am supposed to come on here and make all "everything is wonderful and la-di-da-di-da" for some poster who can't even give my opinion the common courtesy of a hearing, because its going to "ruin his day" to hear something about the team ? And then he is going to put me on ignore ? What a wuss.
Not really interested in what the talking heads have to say at this point. It's way too early to be banging on any team. The truth is if we can get average Qb play this year I'd be willing to bet that we will win 10 games. With this defense, the added speed on offense and, hopefully, far more creative play calling we will be in position to win some games. Look, as bad as things were last year, we were a blown call from being 8-8 and a couple of other games we gave away. So anything can happen. Besides, these same yo-yo's have had us as a Superbowl team a couple of times in the last 10 years when we have'nt even been close. Shows what they know.
I'm seeing the set up now......the excuses soon to appear "well its a new offense, how can they expect to be good at it, they need a year to figure it out". They are on the way........
Yup...last year Lombardi LOVED us because "we executed so well". What killed me with that logic was if we were executing plays so well in 2009, why were we barely scoring more than 20 ppg in 2009? That logic didn't jive.
I state my opinion as others do, I just happen to be the only one you attacked. That is classic TROLLING. I said I won't just lay off to please you or others. I haven't broken any rules that I am aware of on the TOS, which others by the way, have done against me. And its not up to you, to tell me which threads I can & can't post in, how dare you. Who the f**k do you think you are ?
Here's how I look at the situation... Year 1 - 2008 - Sparano wins the AFC East. Year 2 - 2009 - Finish 7-9, there is a clear emphasis that the defense was our problem. New DC is brought in and a lot of key elements of the D were revamped. Year 3 - 2010 - Finish 7-9, massive defensive turnaround to the point it's now considered our strongest mark. Major downgrade in performance on offense though to blame for the 7-9 result. So if you want to take a case example and look at how we fixed our Defensive issues from 2009 to 2010, we brought in a new Coordinator, upgraded a few (but not many) positions on defense. Took a defense heavy draft (all but one person) going into the next season, and became a top 10 defense. So what has this FO done this year to fix the problem? They've hired a new OC, they've brought in some Free Agents at positions that underperformed (RB), and they went into the draft with an offensive focus (All but their last 2 choices were on the offense). Whether you like the changes/holdovers on the roster or not is your own business. But seriously, based on how the FO solved the defensive problems so far I'd say they deserve a chance prove they made the right decision before everyone immediately assumes this train is off the rails. I'm not saying run around and tell everyone the Dolphins are going to the superbowl. I'm just saying maybe we can wait till we've played a single regular season, hell even pre-season game before we start prognosticating a sub 500 end to this season.
Did you just compare yourself to Jesus? I find this a little odd. Lombardi has been singing our praises consistently for a while now, including Chad Henne. Now, all of a sudden, we're screwed. Methinks this has something to do with the Tuna's departure. While he was here, every move we made was genius.
