no Ugly because it's only preseason... Good PR/KR Phillip Livas - great burst and a great spark to our team tonight. DB Jimmy Wilson - really impressed by him. Guy is just a football player. DE Jared Odrick - I thought he was fairly unstoppable tonight against a 2nd team offensive line. Looks healthy for sure. QB Matt Moore - Good yes. But lets not annoint him starter just yet. RB Nic Grigsby - I'd put him ahead of Kory Sheets right now WR Roberto Wallace - big body, good hands, good night (did have one drop though IIRC) WR Clyde Gates - nice TD catch that wasn't just a speed route. He's going to make an impact THIS season QB Chad Henne - that's right Chad Henne. Both INT's weren't his fault. We know about the Fasano play. How about the 2nd int then? Word is the WR ran the wrong route. CB Benny Sapp - solid stuff tonight from the one people like to pick on. I like him personally. The head trainer - quiet night for him is always a good night Bad TE Anthony Fasano - one play, that's all it takes. Catch the ball! OL Matt Kopa - Block someone T Ray Willis - pass blocking is what you're supposed to be at least average at OL Nate Garner - I thought he struggled tonight, at RT and at C 1st team defense - sure it's early, but I don't expect these guys to be pushed around I don't care who the opposition is. RB Kory Sheets - don't dance man, hit the hole and go, you did it perfectly at Purdue. Anyone else not mentioned gets the day off tomnorrow because we won.
The one thing I do notice about Henne----- he seems in better shape this year....... seems a hair lighter/quicker on his feet.
I know a lot of people are done with Henne, and have pointed out that we don't have legit competition in place - and I know TE is not the QB - but I am so tired of Fasano, and his drops. He just sucks. Just seems like we could have made more of an effort to bring in some competition.
My good list: -Lydon Murtha, did a solid job pass blocking -AJ Edds was all over the place -Ike Francis finally looks and plays like a OLB -Matt Moore, give him time he will slice a defense up -Rob Wallace, showed a lot, loved that Moore int to him trying to get him the ball. -CC..Wilson was singing show tunes after Clemons decleated him. My bad list: -ST, once Livas finally broke through, Alt's ST coordinator kicked it into regular season mode and our ST did not handle the switch well -Oline, and really the Dline, I know Sparano said "vanilla" they took the night off -Devlin..that ball has to come out faster son. Guys who get a pass: -Kory Sheets, I thought he looked okay, when he had a hole he did hit and did well, but he also has to make the first guy miss more often -Carpenter, most do not realize this but after he missed those 4 FG's vs the Bills, his play has slipped
Now the 2nd INT isn't his fault either? If the receiver runs the wrong route, don't throw the ball! I'm not going to throw him under the bus for a bad preseason game, but let's quit with the excuses. It's enough already.
Nice putting Henne in the good, as he is going to get ripped by those that read the paper - but he wasn't as bad as it looks.
Frank Kearse (66) intrigued me. Seemed to have a quick first step for a big guy. Held his own vs the double team that I watched.
Why did daniel thomas not play to much 4 carries 5 yards what happen? why didnt Reggie play? sorry Im at work so if someone could fill me in I would be very greatful
It's also annoying when that's followed up by Bess dropping a pass after Chad makes a nice play to escape pressure. Those are 2 plays you gotta convert.
I know Henne probably did because he's a professional. It's Henne's third year and we as fans have to stop making excuses for him. I don't think anyone should write him off because of a preseason game. And he did finish strong, even if it was against 2nd stringers. But if this stuff happens in regular season the honeymoon is over. It's win now, or become a back up.
Well I tried to find other players besides the ones P13 listed, I think people are looking at it the wrong way. 2 int's sucked, but look at the weaknesses that he improved on: -ran for a first down? Our Chad Henne? I thought he looked in better shape this yr and glad to see he proved it. -Henne threw a beautiful deep pass to Hartline, right on the money and in stride, what is really funny is the Falcons were squatting on routes as Db's did all of last season, this game the Wr's turned up field and the Db's shat themselves..they did not see it coming. 1 Td, 1 int, polished some weaknesses, I have no complaints about his play once they got everything sorted out.
Def. That one scramble he made to elude the blitz and hit that WR in the hands, I missed the beginning of and assumed it was Moore. I was shocked to see the guy who just made a quick move with his feet was actually Henne Same with that other scramble he had for a first.
It's the NFL, not flag football. A QB won't know the receiver ran the wrong route until after the ball has left his hand. You don't wait till the receiver is open and then throw it....... unless you want to telegraph every attempt. lol.
Yea, you did. I couldn't tell from the interviews, but on the field I could. Especially when he started moving around in the pocket.
-No reason to play Reggie -Oline was not making holes...at all, DTrain had a rock solid 25 yd reception down the sidelines, 10 through the air, 15 of it balancing on the sidelines, he looked good.
I like that Henne bounced back from two INTs that weren't really his fault. Fasano on the 1st, then bad communication in the 2nd which can be forgiven in pre-season and learned from. He did bounce back against mainly Falcons reserves though, and the Falcons weak spot is their pass D to begin with. So we'll see. Pretty good job by the team, we have some good young WRs and Jimmy Wilson was on fire. RBs looked bad except for one nice Thomas catch and run. The O-Line looked fairly bad though. Long get well soon! and O'Hara please sign with us! (Whats going on with that???)
He does look a lot more nimble, glad to see it tbh, he seems like the dude who stopped partying and took up Mtn Biking or something. And should add Benny Sapp, dude is playing like he does not plan on leaving the island.
This goes back to what I was saying about last year when he finally started taking off and running when he had a chance. I never thought he had poor awareness or lacked ability with his feet; I just thought he was raw and needed to make a few plays with his feet to know that he COULD make them......... and after that we'd see him gradually making more and more to where it eventually becomes something he doesn't have to think much about. I think that's what we're seeing now.
Funny thing is, the Camp Bloggers said he was fighting the ball. And have to give Livas some love, no one saw enough to even mention him at Camp.
yes he did.. Rob Rose had some nice moments late as well vs the double team, but these guys face an uphill battle to make the 53.
That's fine with me b/c we didn't start Jake, Bush, or Marshall. I'm certainly not judging Henne's game critically (against one of the top teams in the NFL) without those 3 guys..... as well as Bess playing on the outside rather than the slot.
Bush and Marshall were held out, so was JT. Coaching decision, wanted to see more of the younger guys... As for DT, he played with Henne and that was enough. Again, they wanted to see Sheets/Grigsby/Hilliard..
good or bad there just is nothing to get excited or worried about in the first two preseason games. The only thing we should be judging is the schemes. Im far more annoyed that we can't run the ball than I am with Henne throwing two picks.
Who's making excuses. If Peyton Manning throws a ball of his TE's' chest, and his receiver runs the wrong route, and both result in INTs, it's still the TE's & WR's fault. The extent you'll go to try and blame someone has reached catastrophic levels. I guess next you'll say it's Denney fault that he couldn't punt a ball that's hiked 6 feet over his head.
I think there are several players struggling to make this football team that would disagree with you.
I dunno the defense got pushed around really. Turner's real noteworthy play was him hitting an unguarded gap on a cutback after the ILB on the back side of the play blitzed a different gap.
Bess put up more and better per snap numbers on the outside than in the slot last year. He's not really a pure slot guy.
I watched for this, the Wr did not do anything special, the Db's would just squat and try and break on what they thought would be a turning type of route, Wallace, Hartline, just kept running. Do think it interesting that we basically handicapped ourselves with Long/Beast/Bush all sitting out.
