As Ireland pointed out last night, after the third preseason game teams are looking to make trades, and look to final cuts to improve depth. I'm thinking we could get something back for a guy on the DL, WR, and DB, Merling, Moore, and Sapp or Allen come to mind. As to additions, Epps did a few good things but, depending on Clay, we may look fot a 2nd TE, and possibly the OL. Thoughts?
clinton portis apparently out of shape in his workout on friday for the pats, i think he won´t be an option as i had hoped, i have no idea who will be picked up, probably guys you´ve never heard before
Well, from my pov Sheets nor Grigsby have really impressed me, Kevin Smith is floating around, and there are about to be cuts so some Rb's will shake loose.
I have to keep Hilliard. Even if he cannot run, yet to be proven, I still want him on ST's. Sheets and Grigsby have shown nothing. Polite has not shown much as well. IF Hilliard is capable at FB, where he has worked out, and IF Clay proves to be a keeper, I would look for Polite to be cut, and a RB to be added. This would give us some roster flexability, and hopefully a spot for Livas.
Would not surprise me if we added a Qb, wondering if Pryor is on the radar as the Wildcat #3 Qb as the #3 Qb is now active on gameday..why not?
Parmalee and Allen looked really good for the Ravens last night. One of them will be available I am guessing. Finding a running back will not be difficult. Tight end and offensive linemen could be a little more complex. Miami is going to have to sign a 3rd qb. Just two qbs played last night and I believe that was telling.
Because more than half of the league is there? Maybe if we were 1 out of 5 teams. 9 of those 14 are also set at QB.
I would like to see them find another option at TE if one looks appealing enough to try out. Maybe a young OL that has good run blocking potential.
We really need another RB and most likely another addition to the OL. I've given up on them adding a receiving TE this year lol
Miami has a couple of scenarios. Traditionally they have been very active after final cut downs , I see zero reason why that will not continue. It is very tough to make an NFL roster at the best of times if you are not a heralded draft pick and you are young and inexperienced , there are always players who become solid if not better starters or provide above average production. This year it will be even harder for these players to unseat a veteran rostered player due to to the lockout and all that entails. There will be more players available because of this imo and I see a lot of activity for the league overall , but specifically for Miami , again. While Miami has seemed to dismiss the current NFL TE as a priority , other teams haven't and there a lot of good young TE's around the league that will be cut and I fully expect Miami to sign one . Let's hope this time it produces better results . They won't stop trying . Signing MCD enables Miami to have the very valuable position of both depth AND talent across the defensive line. There are several trade options for Miami , they don't need to be locked into just one player that they may trade , if it's the right offer they should deal any Dlineman. Of course the return has to match , productive young defensive linemen are desired and valuable . Ireland has the chance to parlay a wise decision into a great move . I love the talent and depth we have but trading one of them for a noticeable upgrade at say G /T/TE or S would impact wins and losses in a positive way imo. I have liked the little we have seen of Frank Kearse and JT played quick , something I haven't seen mentioned yet , he has another TD in him , I am sensing it.
Starks played I thought? We have a log jam at LDE, but the guy who it would make some sense to trade is Langford.
Wonder if Shockey might become available. They've got Olsen and he is the real deal. They really don't have anyone besides those two, but you never know...Shockey could be our #2 TE and fill the shoes we've never filled of David Martin...
I would hate to trade any of the defensive ends. Those guys have been something special for us the past couple of years.
I'd be pissed if either of those guys were traded. We need a consistant passrush. I don't get the fascination with Shockey. How many more times does he need to replaced or dumped from a team before it's accepted that he's done?
You guys are underestimating Pryor. He ran a 4.38 on a relatively slow track. As an athlete this isn't Pat White trying to make a transition to the NFL. He's a 6-5, 240 lb QB that I think can further physically develop. He's arguably the best athletic specimen (depending on his quickness drills) that would ever play the tight end position (Davis is much shorter). He has tremendous run instincts. He could in time become such a weapon in the slot as a WR/TE that teams simply won't be able to match-up with him. He's not a 4.5 receiving TE that we oooh and ahhh over. He's on another level.
I think it's pretty safe to say that Hilliard as a fullback failed. I don't think he threw a decent block when he was out there last season, and he hasn't really lined up there this season. The picked up a prospect that basically fills his skillset in Charles Clay, too.
And Randy Starks played. He was on the field in one of the "starting" packages at Nose Tackle, and got subbed in for Nickel situations. Which might be a better utilization of him, he didn't do so hot as a 2-gap run defender at DE last year.
You dont trade one of the top 5 players in the league at his position unless youre getting a very good haul...like 2 2nds or a 1st or something of that caliber. Agreed on Pryor. Give him a year or so to develop and add about 10-15lbs on that 6'5"/240 frame. Could be a Jimmy Graham/JerMichael Finley type at TE. I doubt Shockey comes available. The Panthers went out and got Olsen and Shockey because they have a clear deficiency at TE as well as WR (after Smith) and because a TE is a young QB's best friend. Shockey is a better blocker at this point then seam stretcher. I like Shockey but I wouldnt have the huge expectations. We do need another receiving TE but Im not optimistic we can get one at this stage of the free agency/cut game
ESPN now says on his 2nd run he had a 4.36, i´m really not following CFB anymore is he really that quick, 4.36 is almost Michael Vick like
Yeah I thought I saw Starks in on a tackle out on the sidelines. Hmm, think maybe Odie and McD started to showcase them for a trade?
yeah i just mean the numbers, i don´t want him as a QB, a TE with his height and weight and this speed could do some damage, i just don´t know right now if he could play TE
Still would not make much sense though Al, a 5 game suspension AND a position switch? I like the idea of ultra athletic wildcat Qb as our #3 Qb with Devlin going onto the practice roster, but otherwise there is no room for him.
i wouldn't care how he would be listed, he should be able to run the seam route, i admit i totally forgot about the suspension, i know its only measurables but this guy could do some damage
Sorry, didn't even watch the game because I have class Friday nights, and noticed he wasn't on the stats sheet, so I just assumed. Caught the replay though.
It would make better sense to extend not trade our best DE. Langford would never wear another uniform if it were up to me.
