I disagree here. The Jets D is still excellent. We know they can run the ball, unlike us who are still hoping we'll be able to. And Plax looked fantastic last night. Sanchez also made some great touch throws the likes of which I've never seen Henne make. They may only be a 10 win team, but that's likely enough to keep us in 3rd place.

I don't see any reason to upgrade but I also don't see the reasoning to expect a 4 game drop off from past year considering what we net lost/gained.

Chad is winning them over IMO, but they want him to step up and show it. That will be a huge key to this year.

The other point is it could have an effect IF the players lose faith in Sparano because of it. It doesnt appear to be the case but if we get off to a rcky start and the team is divided and Sparano may end up losing control and it becoes a trainwreck

That is true but it is true of most teams. yes if Brady goes down you dont count them out as they have shown they can survive. But you question more, you sit and wait more. They are not as dynamic w/o Brady. Indi is by some reports after Farve as manning may not be ready and painter has looked putrid. Injuries and such can effect a team. I do believe we can survive injuries on defense. I think if we have sign injuries to any combo of bush, gates, marshall, bess and fasano, then we can be in serious trouble

The early season schedule is troubling, frankly.

If this gets off to a 1-3 start we could have a real problem on our hands. If we manage 2-2, then perhaps there is a chnce.

At the end of the day, this team needs to finish a season strong. We're not going to be running away with the division so those last few weeks, which include road trips to Buffall and NE, plus a finale against the Jets is a tough road to hoe.

To be fair..they did follow up later and say they could very easily be wrong.....they said they hinged the record mostly on Chad Henne, and if he played like he did against Carolina...and with their D....they could be a good team.

What the ****? This same logic applied to last year as well and the team won 7. It makes no sense to go backwards based on your logic

I agree its actually losing to teams we should beat that has been our downfall the last couple of seasons. But the national media sees 7-9 and automatically assumes we have lost all 4 games to those two every year.

and the 1st two games are important because of that. We can win all of our preseason games and look good doing it, but if we get manhandled in that 1st game against the Pats, and then somehow lose to the Texans (like we always seem to do) we are 0-2 and then the doubts will creep in. Cleveland then I think becomes the pivital game of the season. Lose that one and its goodbye Tony and then looking to get Barkley in the draft.

Good. I hope the media, fans, and other players give the Dolphins plenty of material to have that "us vs the world" mentality.

Speaking of that...anyone else get the feeling that BB is or will be using Kraft's wife's death as a motivator? One of those "Win one for the Gipper" things?

We have NFC East too, which has a few tough teams. I think from a non-fan perspective, it is pretty easy to grade us low. Henne is no longer a young up and coming QB, he is perceived as a bust. We took an OL with first round pick. Biggest acquisiton is Reggie Bush, who himself is perceived as a bust based on draft position. We hired the OC from Cleveland. We wanted a new HC, and settled for Sparano. Honestly, I easily see why people would pick us that low. Me, I look at it differently as a fan, I see Henne getting better, our offense getting better, defense may stay the same as far as ranking, but I bet turnover ratio gets better. (can't drop than many INT's again, can we ?) I think we win at least 8 games....but if we finished 4-12....even as fans, we could understand it, it would not be a complete shock.

Henne is the problem that I continued to hear about in the off-season. Has he done enough to overcome that in his fellow team mates minds ? We shall see...

Well it does depend on his season this year at U$C. He is already considered one of the top 5 prospects, and if he plays well, he should be the 2nd QB taken. Most likely whoever gets the top pick will take Luck and then it could be Barkley next. If we are picking as low as 3,4 or 5 I think no doubt we get Barkley or whoever is the QB flavor of the month.

In a vacuum, yes. But if he can't take his game up a notch it's possible the natives start to get restless, lose faith in Sparano (and Henne) and start folding their tents similar to what we saw up in the NE last year. Outside of an injury epidemic that's the only real scenario I see where we'd come up with only 3-4 wins.

Meh, can the D compensate for our growing pains on offense? If Daboll does half as good a job as Nolan did, they might not have to.

We don't even know where this team will likely finish up, but we do know it won't be as boring on offense as last year.

    O-line
    Daniel Thomas' fumbling issues
    Henne
All these things could make for success or failure in the upcoming season.

disagree, we dominated the bills and vikings on the field, the score may of not shown it, but both teams were dominated by us..They were lucky to even be at a shouting distance of us...I don't count those wins or near losses in the context you are..

I wouldn't go overboard just because Burress looked good last night. A little extra adrenaline surely helped his cause. We'll be able to judge it better later on as it's still debatable how well his 34 year old legs hold up through a long season after not having played in almost 3 years. He may have kept himself fit in jail, but football conditioning is a different matter, especially with 34 year old legs.

NOONE knows the complexities of our team like us...These morons think our team is not unified, they think the team doesn't respect their coach..bottom line, they don't put in the time to come up with any kind of accurate projection of a teams success...0..

What most of our fanbase hasn't realized yet, is how well this coach is in tune with his team..

here is my guideline for how our season will or might go , nobody likes our wr corp and our tight end situation is Fasano and his drops so its hard to say we have improved but here are the main things toconsider. #1 DOES ANYONE OUTSIDE FIN FANS BELEIVE WE HAVE A GOOD WR CORP ? hell no #2 qb situation if henne is in year three then he should be able to make all kinds of play not just the safe picks. #3 is Daniel Thomas going to make us forget Ronnie or Ricky ? if no then we wont win more then 4 games.#4 do we have a owner who knows what he is doing ? hell no .#5 do we have a great defense ? no but it could be great.#6 do we ever make a splash in fa or the draft ? no, we get average players who are just good enough to play for us .#7 when was the last time people were talking about us making good moves ? the most tell tale sign of how we will be as a team is if no one is commenting on our team then we wont be any good. but this isnt accurate all the time. when they were predicting us to do something our coaching staff and gm made horible moves . bottom line when at least 40 % are talking about us in a positive light then we have a better chance to prove them wrong but when bobody is talking good things then its a damn good chance we will suck.my reasoning is the 03 or 04 season when ricky retired everyone was writing us as a shipwreck and guess what, we were. of cousre they did not look at our injuries and bad trades is what did us in that year but this season the Masses are 90 % in beleiveing the dolphins will be non factors. So 90 % of the media is never wrong and it was only 20 to 40 perecent that beleived we could or would get to a superbowl. we can argue that the media is right or wrong but its the amount of people that says this either way is really more accurate touse as a tool.

Exactly. Even Michael Vick, a guy who barely saw the field in year 1 back with Philly said it took him an entire year to get his legs back. How will PB hold up when he's playing every down? The guy is slowly going to fade starting week 3-4. And I sincerely doubt he'll light up the 2nd half of any game this year.

Anyone remember Chris Carter coming out of retirement for us? It's going to be like that...

Dj as much as we dominated the Minny game, you have to admit, that if Favre makes that pass on his last drive and ends up scoring a TD we lose even though the stats say we shouldn't. It was that close. The Buffalo game up there also was with Buffalo coming on in the 4th and we were trying to play Sparano's "sit on the small lead" game, and it almost cost us. We play a 5th qtr in that game and Buffalo wins that one. It was that close to two more losses.

I seriously doubt it. Anything can and usually does happen so I'm not 100% on that, but a top 5 defense, which is typically what you find in the post season, will end it for them like it has the last couple of seasons, IMO.

Unless the Patriots defense gets as good as it was during their Super Bowl winning seasons I think they are a 12-14 win playoff team, but not a Championship team.

They have to hate on someone, and it can't be the Patriots. Obviously two Jets fans aren't going to think highly of the Dolphins. They probably don't even know much about our defense.

If you want to talk about near losses, how many games did the Jets win late in the 4th quarter and in overtime? They only beat the Broncos because of a terrible Pass Interference by the Broncos horrible defense. They squeaked by the Browns and Lions. They should have a weaker run game (LT will not be better) and possibly weaker pass game if Burress fades.(we'll see) 9 or 10 wins for the Jets is a safe choice. Can they continue to make those late wins?

Dolphins....anywhere from 6 to 10 seems likely, depending if Reggie stays healthy and Defense improves from 2010. Henne might also become more consistent, but that is something that cannot be believed until it's seen. See where he is by the Giants game Oct. 30th.

DAMN, my next 6 months is completely destroyed. If Mike & Mike say it, it is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and will happen. After hearing this earth shattering news, I am wondering if The Phins is considering shutting down the forum.

Sine we now have nothing whatsoever to look forward to, all of the positive posters will no longer be posting. The negative posters will have plenty to talk about but, with no one to debate, that will get very boring very quickly.

I've very much enjoyed talking with all here, and look forward to talking again for next years draft.

ROTFLMAO!!! The next time either one of these guys is right on a prediction will be the first.
