What a total joke this once proud franchise has become. I think back to the 70's, 80's (and even 90's) and remember a proud organization with teams that rarely ever got embarassed. I have been a Dolphins fan since '71 and I only hang on out of the respect I have for the teams back then. If you are too young to remember those years, it is too bad....We had players, management and ownership that had a plan...A vision and the talent to execute it. I recall waiting anxiously for each game and cheering loudly with everything I had. Living in Chicago, I had to resort to TV 99% of the time but did get down there occasionally and loved it. Wore my dolphins gear proudly...Especially in the 80's while all of Chicago had a hard on with their super bowl bears..

Now, I see an organization with no itentity. An owner that is trying the "PR" route to resurrect it. A coach that gives it all he has, but all he has isn't good enough. Serious lack of talent. Year after year, we would start strong, taking full advantage of the heat and humidity and watched the other teams get gassed and fold....Now it is us who folds. No heart, no passion....No talent.

    Joe Robbie....Don Shula...Bob Griese...Dan Marino. Now we have Steven Ross....Tony Sparano....Chad Henne.

Ugh......I'm hanging on, but I dumped my NFL Sunday Ticket knowing full well it wasn't worth it just to see these bums.

Ah yes....Wanny....Living in Chicago, I witnessed many a Monday morning mumble and stumble....One of many "Kicks in the balls" since Shula. When JJ hired him as Assistant Coach, I got sick. Personally, I think this debacle started long before Parcells....I think expectations were too high that Parcells could resurrect this franchise.

Lookin' at these punks on the sidelines now...It just makes me sick to see what this team has become. I'm sure Jason Taylor is proud to wear the jersey again but probably regrets playing with these rag tag bunch of losers.

Being in Chicago....Just before the Blackhawks started becoming respectable again, Coach Denis Savard told the team they must "Respect the Indian" referring to the jersey and it's heritage. It's time these punks "Respect the Dolphin" out of respect to all those players and management that built this once proud franchise.

FWIW the best post-Shula team we've fielded was in 2002 under Wannstedt IMO.

That's because it takes time to demolish anything that is well built.

He did a heck of a job demolishing it then, by having the team either lead or be near the top of the league in so many categories. Good thing Shula brought in Ricky who gave us the rushing title that year too! ;)

Last I checked we didn't really win anything in the 80's or the 90's. We couldn't run the ball or stop anyone during the majority of Marino's career.
Why is the organization a bigger disgrace now than in those two decades?

Of course it isn't. Sure last night was a pisser on the defensive side of the ball but we played possibly the best team in the NFL.
I'm not crying moral victory but people have to take these things in complete perspective.
Mighty hard to do that when standing on a ledge.

It was still relevant in those decades. That's probably how it was better than.

Give me a frickin' break....What are you 20? 30 maybe? If you had a clue in the 80's besides knawing on your frickin' fudgesickle you wouldn't even consider making such a dumb *** comparison....Whew...

I posted a very similiar message in July about last year when they sucked and I will when they suck next year....And the year after that.

I'm 46. Thanks for the insults.
We went to the SB twice in the 80's and did nothing in the 90's but get in track meets. This franchise is no different now than it was then except your favorite player Dan Marino and your favorite coach Don Shula was here. You must have slept through the late 80's cause the team was mediocre. In the 90's we were only good every other year. (Even years)
There was no domination. We couldn't stop anyone or run the ball in those years either. You're over hyping those times to make them seem so great. Sure there was excitement because of the passing game and that was about it. We didn't win a damn thing back then so stop being so damn dramatic.

By the # of posts I have submitted, I am obviously not going to waste a lot of time getting into a pissing contest. You don't have to win a Super Bowl to be considreed successful. If you are so convinced that this so called team is just as pathetic as the 80's and 90's versions....Why was attendance and fan base so much higher then? They can't even sell out a frickin' home opener for Christ's sake. I realize there are a lot of transplants down there, but the success and interest level was way way higher in the 70's 80's and even 90's....And why? They had a better product. If I recall correctly, they had quite a few years in a row where they had not had a losing season....Now, that's all they are. Losers. At 46 I can't believe you can say you didn't enjoy the Marino years....At least those teams gave us hope. My only fault with them is they didn't get him a running game....They (Shula) relied too much on Dan and burnt out the defense with the 2 minute drives.

I'm done...I'll chime back in at the end of the season when they are jockeying with the hapless Colts for the #1 pick in the draft....****, they will probably screw that up too.

As far as ticket sales Marino was one of the best QB's to ever play the game. The guy put asses in the seats alone. It was always exciting. I never said I didn't enjoy the Marino years. I loved those days but as far as success and actually winning we never really went anywhere. It is the rub on the guy and the franchise for not winning it all. You tell me that SB's don't dictate success. Dan would have been considered easily the best ever if he would have taken home a few rings.

Wait a minute. I watched virtually every one of those games. And we did not do anything worth while..if worthwhile is winning the Super Bowl. We lost two Super Bowls because we could not stop anything because of Shula's loyalty to his staff, when at least one DC should have been demoted to high school. We missed several others because Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas could run all over us. And Shula could not draft a running back if he walked in with his union card and punched the time clock. You haven't got any more right to rag on any poster than anyone else, and I think you are jumping ship before the anchor is pulled all the way up this season. That team did not quit last night like several of Wannstedt's teams did. That team fought all the way. Sporano is not the second coming of Shula, but then again, no one else is likely to be anyway, nor is that what we need right now. So cool down the flamethrowers, noob.

Sucks for me. I'm a pretty young guy who never seen the glory days. Really, it's just disgruntling to watch this team. As long Stephen Ross is the owner, I don't think this team isn't going anywhere other than bringing an atmosphere of celebrities. I'm sure it's not working.
