I've just got my beta access and since there's no NDA, I figured I might as well post some first impressions:

    - The graphics are downright ugly. Unless I'm missing something (running on max details and 1920 resolution), 2005 called and wants it textures back.
    - Not a fan of the skill point devoid skill system. I level up and get to do ... nothing at all!
    - I hope there's a little more actual story(telling) in the final game. I know, it's Diablo, but the whole "There's monsters - go and kill them" spiel doesn't really work for me in 2011, not even when it's Diablo.
    - It's still kinda fun, but I can't help to be massively underwhelmed.

Feel free to shoot me specific questions if you have them.

How do you like the witch doctor overall ?? And is the gargantuan pet any good?

    1920 resolution?

Is that a custom resolution, like 1920p?

The beta is only about 3-4 hours long, give or take a little, so it's pretty impossible to say a whole lot about the balancing or any specific skill (especially mid- to late game ones). That said, the witch doctor is rather fun. I gave the wizard a try on my first playthrough and it was rather dull. Stand back, shoot your magic wand, retreat when they're almost in your face and repeat. The witch doctor works pretty much the same way initially, except that his zombie dog pets eliminate the whole retreat part. Many of his skills are DOTs, and it's good fun to go through opponents one by one, watching the first enemy fall from the DOT while you zap the third. I found it much, much easier to kill a large group of enemies (and gain bonus experience for doing the whole thing quickly) with a witch doctor than a wizard. Oh, and the character design is better too. Think Sulik from Fallout 2.

What I found rather strange with both the wizard and the witch doctor was that most of the new skills I got after leveling up were close range only. It seems rather counter-intuitive to the whole playing style. Yeah, I might close in and cast some magic blades (wizard) or fire bats (doctor), but then again, I might just not and stick to hit and run (wizard) or pet and snipe (doctor), especially since my HP are pretty low. The fact that the beta is pretty easy - no, super easy - doesn't help. You can literally finish it by tapping just the left button, no sweat. Unless things get considerably harder later on, there's just little point in using any skill aside from the one you started with.

I'll try the remaining three classes tomorrow or over the weekend, so we'll see what they are going to play like. So far, however, I'm lowering my expectations considerably. It's still fun, it's still got that Diablo-feel and it still gets pretty addictive once you get into it again, but it completely lacks the "wow, now that's just cool" factor. Like I said, it's only the very beginning of the game, so take it with a grain of salt or two, but to me, it feels distinctly like been there, done that.

It's 1920x1080 on my beloved 16:9 screen, Mr. Wisecrack :shifty:

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, just wondering if anyone is playing the console versions that came out yesterday. Worth getting? I never played the first 2, but the little bit I saw in the commercials kinda intrigued me. Almost looked like a Gauntlet type game.

I played the PC version extensively for about 3-5 months, spent about 100-200 hours on it and it was a lot of fun. I played the first 2 and the expansion and loved them, but what this one didn't have and really turned me off was PvP at release and the ability to create joinable games that everyone could see and pop in (Whether it be to trade or just mess around). I used to fleece people in trades because there was a LOT of bad traders who didn't really have a strong knowledge of the in-game economy, in comes the RMAH and takes that out completely. So yeah i had my gripes about the game, add in that the loot drops were usually bathroom fodder 99% of the time and there was no end game PvP stompage as in the previous ones where you were all tricked out and would smash people, or just team up with a buddy and 2v1 people until they left your game. These were the memorable parts of Diablo 2 and LOD for me.

On the other hand i have heard nothing but great reviews from the console version and as i understand it IS the place to play Diablo 3 now. The loot drops are better and they scrapped the RMAH in consoles so i would definitely give it a go, for the price you will definitely get 50+ hours of content AT LEAST. Well hope this helps, let me know how it goes!
