That's nice. Keep letting the rest of our current team off the hook b/c you feel a "great" QB would make up for their poor play. Are you listening to yourself?? Don't they have to step up to "OK status" first before they can even think about the jump to elite? You must be so accustomed to watching few rushing TDs through the past 19 games that you feel 0 in 3 games is a good showing. 0? That's a great number! Why the heck would they need to improve on that?!
Henne isn't the only problem, but it seems like he isn't a solution. Why do people only have to blame one person/unit? You can blame more than one. Like Coaching, QB, O-Line, etc. You don't have to place all the blame in one spot. Before people blame Only Bush, we haven't thrown any passes to him in the red zone to get him in space. I don't even think we've pitched to him either. Maybe that goes back to coaching. And we've barely used Thomas the past two games in the red zone. At the end of the day, an elite QB can mask these problems. Henne is not one, and the coaching staff isn't doing it's job to help him. And we could also replace our O-Line with blow up dolls and probably have the same effect. Colombo is basically playing as good as one of those inflatable Christmas/Halloween decorations would.
The issue isn't people only blaming one person. For the most part I believe people around here realize that our failures aren't singularly on one player. The issue is that if any blame at all is even tried to be placed on Chad Henne people around here flip their ****. Then they go out and make threads like these that they know are only going to stir up ****, and THEN when people voice an opinion contrary to what they believe they put words in their mouths to make them seem ignorant or foolish. The problem doesn't lie with the people who know that this team isn't very good and that Henne is a part of that, it lies with the people think that Chad Henne is a great QB who is beyond reproach and can do no wrong who just happens to be on a bad team.
I agree with the team examples you listed, but what about teams like Pitt, Houston, Giants, Jets, Atlanta, and SD? If a defense doesn't respect your redzone run offense, doesn't it make it more difficult to throw TDs from 10+ yards out?....... and if you can't stuff it in inside the 5, doesn't it make it more difficult to run effective play fakes etc? Schaub got an easy TD pass after his ground game did most of the work in the redzone. All he had to do in the redzone was cap off the drive with a fake to Foster where Pitt's entire defense bit on it. We run the same play and the entire D looks for pass.
Henne just IS NOT a good QB in the red zone, period. You want to continue with the "Henne`s never wrong" posts go ahead but its getting really comical trying to pass the blame on others while Henne continues to struggle with certain aspects of his game.
For the most part agree, Trowa, but the fact is that Henne has been a "slightly less dim" spot (not gonna say a bright spot... at least not since the first game...) on the offense. Too many people place the blame squarely on his back when it is a team failing...The O-line is a miserable failure once again and the running game is virtually non-existent, but Henne is the biggest problem in too many people's eyes.
I don't understand how we are blaming anything other than what is solely at fault, which is the offensive line play. In the red zone, the field is compressed and each defender is responsible for much less space, so that it becomes doubly important for the offensive linemen to explode out low at the snap, each give his assigned defender a shot that will straighten him out, and then drive him. A one or two yard push should result, without penetration by the DL or rushing linebackers. If there is a hole, pay dirt isn't far away. If there isn't one, it's often because the linebackers or the strong safety are engaged, because they respect the drive blocking, so that there's more space to make a completion, because there are less people in pass coverage. It's also a good time to sell play action. But we have NO effective drive blocking, especially on the right side. We are not driving, or even tying up defenders, and when we call a pass play, especially when we go to the 'gun, no one respects the run and everyone is back covering. It isn't Henne. He can't drive block. It isn't the coaches; they will not call plays that they know the linemen can't execute.
Good thing we drive cars and not ride horses because you guys have just about beat them all to death and some of the dead ones more than once.
If you need any proof that what I'm saying is true, look at the game between Jacksonville and New Orleans. Poor Gabbert is being set up for failure. Rookie QB...26 passing plays...8 rushing plays...and Gabbert was also picked off. All New Orleans defense has had to do was sit back, be patient and they'd get their pick.
The Texans aren't a particularly good example, they've got pretty well publicized red zone problems themselves.
We spend 3 first round picks on solid run blocking linemen, bring in a mauler like Incognito, draft a redzone weapon like Daniel Thomas, and have ZERO redzone rushing TDs to show for it, yet people blame Henne and his 4 redzone TDs for being our redzone problem. Rushing offense redzone TDs: 0... Henne redzone TDs: 4. It's difficult for a passing offense to help open redzone rushing when defenses haven't had to respect the redzone run to begin with.
CLEARLY Henne can do no wrong. We should all stop criticizing him. The fact that he is approaching historical levels of turnovers clearly none of them are his fault.
Henne injured In comes Matt Moore. On his first play? long pass completion. Offense drives right down the field and scores a touchdown. Henne is complete garbage. Just trade him in the off-season for whatever we can get
Here we go again...Henne is the crux of every problem on this team, especially when Bell bites so hard on the fake that he allowed the Jackson to score. That Henne just can't cover anyone...Hope Matt Moore can do better as a S, cause we sure need it...
Or maybe you know we know the whole team sucks and want to start over. With a QB that could be much better than Henne. Nobody thinks Henne is the root of all problems. His defenders just think that's the argument.
The problem with that statement is that every damn thread that is started about how horrible this whole team is devolves into a "Henne Sucks" bashfest.
Not on every football subject. That's simply not true. In fact, since players often have opposite opinions from other players, it has to be false.
I just believe that players have a better understanding because they've been there in the highest form of football. Fans can't say that. Does that make sense?
I understand why you're saying it, but in my experience there are people in the highest levels of experience who don't have a better understanding of their field relative to others with considerably less experience. I heard an NFL player say that there was no such thing as an H-back. That is a factually incorrect statement. My guess is that he had simply never been in an offense that had one. His NFL experience was much greater than mine (I only had a couple of years and I was never a player at that level), but my knowledge on that fact was greater. I have met NFL players who knew very little about football beyond what their specific assignment was and obviously there are some with vast knowledge about football in general. I have also met people with vast knowledge about football that never played a down. I just find any statement that makes the assumption that players always know more as incorrect.
I never said players are always right. But in respect their opinion more. I understand what your saying though.
Meant to comment on this... Dan Deirdorf, 6 time Pro Bowl selectee (5 years in a row 74-78) 5 First Team All Pro Selectee NFL's All Decade Team selectee (1970's) 3 time selectee NFC OL of the year (76-78) He's done more than played in the NFL. He EXCELLED in the NFL. I think that gives him the credentials and qualifications to be considered an authority on the NFL.
This thread just shows the clear problem with some of our fans. The "We need a real QB not named Chad Henne" crowd doesn't care about finding quotes to post on this forum to bash him. We care about the Dolphins, not Henne personally. ToddPhins hears 1 man's opinion on the television, and immediately runs to the forums to make a thread to defend Henne with it. I mean, you have to have a certain type of agenda/mindset to do things like that.
I'm extremely disappointed in you TDK. You left out Hall of Famer. Then again, maybe he's just biased because he could actually block somebody. lol.
you're absolutely right. It does take a certain type of mindset. One that holds an entire offense accountable for their redzone deficiency, not just one person like some delusional fans do. It doesn't matter that we had zero redzone TD prior to today...... and it doesn't matter that Marshall has dropped 3 redzone TDs. All that matters is that Henne hasn't atoned for everyone else's inadequate play. It's amazing that teams like Pitt can score 31 points without their QB throwing a single TD pass. Just curious---- did you make a pillow case from a fake Marino jersey and sleep on it every night?
You know, when I read these types of comments, it really makes me wonder if folks who are in line with this opinion really know anything about football. Let's take a history lesson, shall we? Let's take a look at teams that actually made it to the Super Bowl whose quarterback were "average" to "mediocre" 2006 Chicago Bears; Rex Grossman????? 2005 Seattle Seahawks; Matt Hasselbeck????? 2003 Carolina Panthers; Jake Delhomme????? 2002 Tampy Bay; Brad Johnson????? Oakland Raiders; Rich Gannon????? 2000 Baltimore Ravens; Trent Dilfer????? New York Giants; Kerry Collins????? 1999 Tennessee Titan; Steve McNair????? 1998 Atlanta Falcons; Chris Chandler????? 1995 Pittsburgh Steelers; Neil O'Donnell????? 1994 San Diego Chargers; Stan Humphries 1991 Washington Redskins; Mark Rypien 1990 New York Giants; Jeff Hostetler 1988 Cincinnati Bengals; Boomer Esiason 1987 Washington Redskins; Doug Williams 1985 Chicago Bears; Jim McMahon New England Patriots; Tony Eason 1983 Washington Redskins; Joe Theismann Oakland Raiders; Jim Plunkett 1982 Washington Redskins; Joe Theismann 1981 Cincinnatoo Bengals; Ken Anderson 1980 Philadelphia Eagels; Ron Kaworski I could go all the way back to the beginning, but the point is all of those above named quarterbacks were average to medicore at best. What got them to the Super Bowl was the TEAM. -The Redskins went to the Super Bowl four times in 7 years with three different quarterbacks. That wasn't the quarterback that got them to the Super Bowl, it was the team and the team system. -Baltimore and Chicago, their quarterbacks were average to below average, it was their defenses that got them there. -Then you have the Cinderella stories like Atlanta, Cincinnati, Seattle and Carolina, but it wasn't their quarterbacks that got them to the game, it was the TEAM. If the Chicago Bears can get to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman...if Carolina could get to the Super Bowl with Jake Delhomme...if Baltimore could get to the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer...if Pittsburgh could get to the Super Bowl with Neil O'Donnell, then why is it not feasible we could get to the Super Bowl with Chad Henne, PROVIDED...the TEAM and the team SYSTEM was conducive to being successful? Our TEAM is in SHAMBLES. We have so many problems right now that if the clock was turned back...and we had Marino as our quarterback....with THIS system in place, we'd be LUCKY to go 8-8...I mean "I won the Powerball" lucky. I know there's soooooooooo many people that want Andrew Luck, but how many QB studs came out of college, went to a team whose SYSTEM was not tailored to their talents and they flopped? Ryan Leaf? Jeff George? Luck plays in a west coast style offense. Do we have a west coast style offensive systm in place? Would we fire Daboll and try to get a west coast style offensive coordinator? And if we couldn't lure a west coast offensive style coordinator, are you going to try and force Luck to play a style of football that's not suitable to his talents? There are more questions than answers regarding the Dolphins right now.
OMFG did you see the horrible QB play from the Ravens tonight? Flacco was 10-31 165 yds 0 TDs 1 INT (ret for TD) and 1 fumble (lost). The Jets D put the wood to his ***. And they won by 17 anyway. How? The Ravens D scored 3 TD's by themselves. In one game!!! Not fluky plays where they got lucky either. Plays designed specifically to produce TO's. Blindside blitz. Showing a soft corner then rolling up into a cloud coverage at the last second. Isolating Ngata on Matt Slauson. Excellent scheming and excellent execution. Mark Sanchez looked like a scared rabbit. He finished 11-35 119 yds 0TDs 1 INT (ret for TD), 3 lost fumbles (2 ret for TD). NY's only scored were a KO ret and INT return by David Harris. It was a total destruction and it was a pleasure to watch. Quick. Name the last time Miami's D scored a TD? OK, OK, you don't have to do it quick, take a few hours to think it over. Hell, Vince Wilfork has as many INTs as our entire team. We have yet to recover a fumble. Let that marinate for a second. Does anyone think we could EVER put up 34 points if our QB was 10-31 165 yds 0 TDs 1 INT? You don't have to answer the last question. It was rhetorical .
