Hey it's going to come down to how badly the Cubs want Theo. Obviously they're not just going to give the Sox someone like Starlin Castro but the Cubs need to give the Sox at least something in return.
Eh it might also come down to the Sox also just want to get rid of Theo as well.....I just wouldn't expect much...they are already kicking him out the door...just take the cash....cash is king my friend.... http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/this-just-in/21147721/henry-personally-opposed-signing-crawford
Dude I think this fan base is going to rip holy hell at these guys this year......like the leesh is very short...alot of my Red Sox buddies don't like alot of the players they used to like....I can see patience wearing thin.....however winning changes all of that...
You have to remember BDH, they all try to be the Boss, but somewhere between fact, and fantasy they lose the translation, and wind up making fools of themselves....
I'm not should Carl Crawford can get over what Henry said. Get over the pile of money at his feet. Just more distractions and non sense. Who cares. I'm sure if Crawford had a Crawford year Henry wouldn't have said that.
It is easy to say if so and so didnt happen, things would be rosey....I agree, but it didnt happen that way, it happened the opposite way in a sports town where the media eats their own as good as any city not named NY......Everytime Beckett isnt in the dugout, watch he will have a media hoard at his locker after everygame...that becomes stressful, it becomes taxing.....whether right/wrong fair, should/shouldnt happen....it will...this isnt Tampa, KC, Miami or Minny where you can skate through a season and the media are the nice guys...... In the end the players care, it showed all year with Papi et al snipping at the media.....
Good I rather Theo stay and be a lame duck, and the Sox get nothing as he walks after next year, then the Sox getting a top prospects.....
This reeks of desperation and more like "begging for all things to work themselves out".....I would have been willing to wager that the Saux miss playoffs for 3rd consecutive year based on all the dominoes; far quicker than I would wish in the other hand what Edes is wagering here. But lemmings jump off the cliff cause they are predestined to I guess. http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7099013/sounds-crazy-red-sox-saved "The Red Sox will be in the playoffs in 2012. And it would not shock me if they won it all. If I'm wrong, I'll walk from Fenway Park to my hometown of Lunenburg, a stroll of 45 miles or so, wearing a T-shirt that reads, I'm the Idiot Who Picked the Red Sox.'' P.S. That's also a weak-***-wager if ever there was one. Walk through the Bronx with that shirt and have Shaughnessy wear one that says "I am with stupid".
Theo wouldn't be the GM for the Red Sox if the Cub deal fell through. He'd likely be a special advisor as there's no way the Sox could or should have him operate knowing he's gone next year anyway. And I still think the deal goes through, this is typical in negoitations.
While the Cubs and Red Sox continue to haggle over compensation and other details of Theo Epstein's potential move the Chicago, one GM told Buster Olney of ESPN.com that the North Siders should hold firm on giving up little for Boston's GM (Twitter link). "What are the Red Sox going to do -- bring Theo back? No way," said the GM.
But on the flip side if Theo ends up staying with the Red Sox what do the Cubs do? Just sit in a holding pattern for a year, how would that effect the fans of the Cubs? I'm assuming they're all pretty excited about Theo coming aboard, it could be a huge let down for that fan base. Plus again the Cubs risk not ever getting Theo next year as a lot can happen in that time. It's all a matter of how badly they want him. Again I'm not saying they should give up Starlin Castro or IF they had a Stephen Strasburg type prospect (they don't) but they should have to give up a good prospect for Theo.
Boston has every incentive to hold out for something substantial, apparently they feel Theo is expendable, the Cubs feel he is their missing piece, why give him away for nothing?
well this explains it all....
I've heard very little, last I heard they had a list of about 25 names (cut down from a list of 50 plus) so they're not leaving any stone unturned. The front runners I'd guess are Mackanin and Dave Martinez but it's just a guess. I tend not to get too worked up over who they might be targeting because how would I know how good/bad Mackanin or Martinez will be. I remember not thinking much when the Sox hired Francona (while everyone killed the Sox for that move because he didn't have a winning record, much like Joe Torre when he first got the Yankee job) and he turned out to be great. We'll see.
The Red Sox are "believed to be focused" on Cubs pitching prospect Trey McNutt in the Theo Epstein compensation talks, writes Patrick Mooney of CSNChicago.com. Mooney says Cubs center field prospect Brett Jackson is "untouchable and not part of the discussions," while prospects such as Josh Vitters and Matt Szczur are considered unlikely. One major holdup is determining which front office members Epstein can take with him to Chicago. Silverman's informed speculation suggests Red Sox vice president of baseball operations Brian O'Halloran, special assistant to the GM Dave Finley, and head athletic director and assistant director of medical services Mike Reinold "could be part of Epstein's request."
I get why McNutt might be untouchable but the other guys too? What do the Cubs except the Red Sox to ask for them if they won't even offer them Jackson, Szuzur or Josh Vitters (who the Sox wouldn't even take due to them having Middlebrooks). Two teams playing hardball with each other it seems.
I didnt post Abraham's original story, well, cause frankly it was boring and lacked punch (except for the grown *** man comment - which reminded me of the College Football Coach screaming about being 40, etc....ahhh good times)....but the fact that STILL MORE leaks from FO are spilling to discredit anyone speaking out cracks me up. What is the FO problem to poo-poo on anyone wearing a uniform? Damn, what a mess! I love it......
I'd love to hear any real explanation of why anyone would leave a GM position (that he's signed on for until 2013 with an option for 2014) to be an assistant GM. Sounds to me like this is purely gossip/speculation.
Beer IN the dugout? Come on.....?? http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7120356/report-boston-red-sox-players-had-beer-dugout
This is starting to be a bit overkill now. What's next? The players shooting up on the on deck circle? Killing hookers in the bullpen?
I feel the same, but if true thats nuts....beer in the dugout....oh wait Luccino is saying not so...there that ends it...
Personally I'm just burnt out hearing about all this crap. At this point who cares anymore. Can we just start the hot stove so we can talk about insane trade/FA signing rumors?
Wow....so add that and mix in this...and you have the last great rape of the SD Padres and Saux-ville shenanigans? I guess if you cant get the compensation you want from Cubbies....you go to your next favorite Ho and consummate the act that way?
Theo and Jed back together in Chicago makes me sad that the Sox couldn't keep both of them and just make Theo President and Hoyer or Cherrington GM. I'm jealous of the Cubs right now.
