Last game of the season....Jan 1st....vs the Jets. What would you root for?

I will never, ever, root for the ****ing jets to win.

Lose. No chance in hell I'm missing out on Luck if we're that close.

You win the game, you're happy for a week. You lose the game, we're competing for championships for the next 15 years.

 

No brainer....we lose for Luck...the Jets even if they make it in the playoffs, just simply arent winning it this year....Plaxico over Edwards is killing them right now, and no run game...defense will be worn out by then.....

 

You could ALWAYS trade up.....you WIN the GAME. Do not go 0-16!

I think a more realistic scenario is Jets fans deciding whether they want to win a meaningless game against us, or prevent us from drafting #1.

Suck for Luck is what I'd be rooting for. While I hate the Jets and everything they stand for, this is a franchise-defining moment. In a sense, by losing this one game, we'll be winning a heckuva lot more games for about a dozen years as a result. No brainer for me!

 

In spirit, I agree with you, you always want to beat the Jets. But remember, this is a franchise-defining moment. I'd rather be able to pick Luck outright, and use whatever picks we'd have to trade for him (at least another #1, plus another #2, if not better, if not more) on pieces to surround him with. I mean, getting Luck is the #1 priority, I get that, but - ideally - I'd like to get him, and still have some quality picks to put more talent around him right away (first two years) then we'd otherwise be able to if we have to trade up for him.

THIS is the only reason I would root for the JET ..... well, I'd be rooting against us, put it that way.

Clearly, we all have NO idea how good Luck will actually be, or what heights he would lead the team to. But, we know this much - he's the most complete QB talent to come out of college in nearly 30 years (Elway). He has more upside than any QB coming out of college since Peyton Manning. Given this, we should do everything we can to put ourselves in position to draft a guy of this caliber. That doesn't mean tanking on purpose, and I'm not even suggesting the TEAM should tank during this scenario. All I'm saying is, as a fan, if it comes down to losing and having a chance to draft a QB, who is as close to a sure thing as any QB coming out in some time, then I'm on board for losing in the short term for long-term gain.

And - frankly - I'd take another Marino career over what we've had since!

No one even knows if Luck is going to the NFL yet.
I think the SFL'ers are getting way ahead of themselves and setting up for major disappointment which only leads to more anger, resentment, and hatred.

 

I will be rooting for a gigantic sinkhole to swallow the entire stadium of suck this season is.

 

Well as an SFLer, myself, here's how I'm viewing the rest of the season:

-I want us to get Luck, but not getting too excited just yet. Still have 11 to play, and I actually would not be shocked if somehow, based on pride, the team pulls out 5-6 wins this year. Not expecting more than 2-3 wins, but would not be shocked if they suddenly found a mini hot streak at some point.
-I'm not rooting for us to lose each week. Was still PO'd on Monday night, but after the game, when it was all done, I took heart that all this losing MAY ultimately pay off.
-If it does get to the last two games, and we really do have a shot, I may actually openly root for us to lose, for the singular purpose that it could make us an elite team w/in the next 2-3 years, and then for a decade after. Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but I like our odds if we can pull this off.
-That said, if we don't land the "once-in-a-generation" talent in Luck, our consolation prize in the form of Jones, Barkley, or even RGIII could ultimately make us just as successful. So, either way, whether we go 0-16, or even 6-10, we'll likely be in position to either directly draft, or trade up for a quality QB talent.

 

It's a win-win situation, but I can't root for the fcking Jets to win.

 

I do agree with this...... We will be drafting a QB in the first round next season.
Henne got a raw deal and has been ruined. If I was him I would run the hell away from Miami.

 

Honestly, it's a moot point. No matter who Miami or NY fans root for, the outcome is completely unaffected. It makes ZERO difference on the outcome of the game. And realistically, with a playoff spot on the line and Miami at 0 or 1 win, the Jets will almost most certainly mop the floor with your team. You might get a spirited quarter or maybe even a half out of your team, but at the end of the day the better team that is playing for a playoff spot will win 90% of the time.

And for the people that say, "Ah, the Jets will lose in the playoff anyway" you never know what will happen once your are in. No one thought the Jets would knock off Manning and Brady on the road. Any Miami fan that says they thought they would is full of crap.

Normally, would agree with you, and you're probably right.

But I remember the 1992 season finale, Dolphins at Pats. Pats SUCKED at 2-13, we were 10-5, and were playing for a bye (maybe even the division, don't recall). I went to the game, figuring easy win. At the half, Pats lead 13-3, and the Pats fans back then were like, "hey, we've had our fun ... you can blow us out, now." We ended up winning in OT 16-13. Not apples to apples, exactly, but just sayn'. This game always sticks in my head as I was there.

 

I am being honest. I didn't slam the Dolphins. If there are winless by that final game, then they would be no question that they are the worst team in the league (which wight now, I do not think they are). So the chances of them beating a team with 8 or 9 wins and a playoff spot on the line seems far fetched. And as I pointed out, what you decide to root for makes no difference. If the situation was reversed, I'd be sure to not watch the game.

 

But at the end of the day, you won. And the Pats had mustered 2 wins prior. You guys are hypothesizing that you would be winless. I would be in complete shock if the Jets lost to a winless team to miss the playoffs.

 

Good point .... but it would be funny if the Dolphins got win 1 and you missed the playoffs. Gotta admit, I'd probably party down the block after that one, pissing off my good friend and Jet fan neighbor.

 

Lose or tie. Get siqualified via every player getting ejected.

 

Thus guaranteeing that we get a quarterback who is better than Sanchez immediately without even taking an NFL snap (provided Indy has a win)...and conceivably is the answer Miami has been looking for, for the past 16 years.....then and only then will this franchise start to fully turn it around....

Guys Red Sox fans were rooting whole-heartedly for the YANKEES to beat a team so they could get into the play-offs at the end of this year.....am I fond of watching a season like this? Of course not....but if in the end the QB position is solved, I will watch it will a smile on my face.....only good things can happen, you get rid of the dead weight, poor preforming coaches get the axe, the culture changes, and oh yeah a possible future multi-season all-pro position player, comes to us with a nice little bow attached to him, in a position that is THE hardest to strike gold at......

Again to me no brainer....efff the Jets, I hope they make it in as a WC, and play road games so I can watch Sanchez get pounded, and watch Rex cry.......again...

 

He's been getting alot of grief even though his team beat up on us. Well alot if that was beating ourselves but the score is what it is.

Let them get their kicks now, hope and change is in store.

 

And if it meant you guys missing out on Luck, it would worth it Not that I think Luck would guarantee an instant dynasty. I watched Marino play his entire career and I know it takes more than a QB. The pleasure I would get is the days worth of entertainment this forum would provide!

A Miami's fan dream is that a win in that final game doesn't mean squat as the #1 pick is your no matter what and the Jets are fighting for their playoff lives. Then you guys could root like hell to save some face and dance on the Jets grave. If I were you guys, that is the scenario I would be praying for

 

You had to wait for the 3rd road game two years in a row And Sanchez never got pounded. But please continue with your fantasy. The one I laid out for is much sweeter

 

How many Jets fans have come over here to gloat about the misfortunes of the Dolphins? I am going to say none, unless I missed someone that got banned immediately.

 

It doesnt matter when it happened, it being in the AFC Championship was even sweeter...again the outcome is already decided...Jets arent winning.....the fact you momos hang your hat on that gives me energy....go with that....please..

 

You know, this used to be true, but I think the way the rules today protect the QB and promote passing, I think an 80's Marino would actually have been able to take his teams even further. Look at Brady and the Pat's D. That D SUCKS. Our D in the late 80s SUCKED, and even as good as Marino was (44 TDs in '86, 8-8 record), he couldn't alone put us over the hump. Nowadays, a franchise QB is even more valuable. Ummm .... ask the Colts what the difference is between having one of these guys, and not! With him, division champs, threatening for conference title. W/out him, vying for the #1 overall pick.

If the 2011 Pats were playing in 1988, I can gurantee you they'd be about a .500 team, and Wes Welker wouldn't nearly be as valuable. Today, they are going to win the division with ease, and will be in play for much more. If Luck ends up being all they say he is, merely making the playoffs will be a starting point for the Dolphins each year.

 

Its tough, but I'd be ok with the loss. here's why...

In your scenario, Luck is for sure in the draft, and we get to select him number one over all. So, I'd have to suffer a loss to the jets, so that we could essentially guarantee ourselves a QB capable of beating them twice a year for the next 15 or more seasons. Sounds like a win-win to me.

 

no you're right it could be worse. I guess I should say we shouldn't be giving your team grief since they are still strong and in the hunt. Still want to see them lose though.

Seperate question for you: how are jets fans feeling about sanchez? Are they ready to give up on him? I'm worried that a team like the rams or panthers end up with the top pick and trade it to the jets. They are one of the few teams with the gonads to trade their entire draft plus some to get him. Bold bold move but they could do it. What you think?
