Disagree, i'd say Vontae being out, and limited when he did play, and No Show Jones being straight poor, had more to do with the pourous defense then CC being out. Add in a DL that spent a lockout eating and making merry, and it is no small wonder the D has struggled save for the last 2-3 games. Teams are beating us via the pass, not the run, Crowder could not cover a tree stump, Burnett apparently cannot either, but because Burnett sucks does not mean Crowder is somehow better, could be they both are just bad.
Odrick was drafted to play an overvalued position on our team. it was a mistake. They misidentified players on our team, while investing a previous 2nd rounder at the same position. They had a rotation set and all that was needed, was filler at a good Free Agent price. They doubled down on their mistake by trading out of #12 to add a guy they just did not need, while allocating resources to a overvalued and over-compensated position.
Nothing new if you listen to his radio shows. He's dissed Ireland on almost every show since he started it. He always praises Sparano though which I don't totally understand. I mean I do understand why he may like Sparano but saying things like he is a very good Head Coach is a bit much
I disagree that they didn't need Odrick. There was a clear need for a pass rusher. Merling is absolutely a bust, and they deserve the blame for that though.
If we have so many 4-3 players, then should we switch to a 4-3 defense? Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I don't agree with the QB comment simply b/c there were no good options. That was not a mis-step, but just a situation where there were no better QB options available. The rest I agree with as they are all the same complaints I have been talking about for a while. - I think Ireland is a jerk. That comes across and people don't like to deal with him. He is best as a director of college scouting. - I've harped on the decision to trade down since it happened. I would have taken Earl Thomas before Bryant (we had just landed Marshall), but either way yo would have a superstar and a play maker rather than two good players, which can be found anywhere. - Bradshaw was my first choice. The only thing that stops from criticizing that is the money. Fans get caught up in the fictional to value of the contract, but in real money, Bush only got about 25% of what Bradshaw got. Sproles was my second choice and he got about the same as Bush got. The Columbo signing was just stupid. I wanted Mckinnie when he was first released. They were both potential busts, but McKinnie was younger and had a much higher upside. - I have been harping about the Safety position for years, so I obviously agree with Crowder here.
As a 5-technique, absolutely. He's as quick as you'll find at that position. He reminds me a lot of Cullen Jenkins.
I defended Ireland TILL that day. Then not seeing what I and everybody else could see (Jimmy Graham being great value) just cemented it. Guy doesn't understand his own league. When I can draft better than he can, and all I have is a few websites, a TV and alot of booze / snacks...then we have a problem.
completely overvalued. it is like putting 15k rims on a Yugo. and Odrick is not a good 5 technique. he belongs as a 3 technique. Trade him to Tampa Bay for a 2nd if you can get it.
This guy got sold as a potential solid 3 technique and capable of playing ANYWHERE, including some zero. it was all bull****. He is the third best End on a mediocre 0-6 defense.
Passed on Aaron Hernandez, Jimmy Graham, Earl Thomas etc etc....all positions that are weak on our team. Sad.
Yes, Jimmy Graham is great value when he has Drew Brees throwing to him. I have my doubts that he would perform the same with Matt Moore as his QB.
Matt Moore as a starting QB also displays Ireland's inability to distinguish sh!t from shinola, or elbows from a$$holes.
Sends shivers down my spine, man. There were plenty of veteran options available, too. Not that it matters now, but shudder to think...
Guy is so good that he has forced Drew Brees to NOT spread the ball around and target him. Guy was spectacular value that EVERYBODY on this board saw, but Ireland passed on.
I want to be wowed by a personnel guy. I remember when JJ drafted Zach Thomas. I thought "He is too small..what is JJ thinking." When Ireland drafts, I second guess and am right alot with my second guesses. The guy is just BAD at his job. If I can do his job better than he can, and I have zero experience in the field, then we have a problem.
QB makes a difference, absolutely. That's always going to be the case. Jermichael Finley would waste away here. Saints think Graham is already the best TE in the league.
No, I don't agree with that SB, both Henne and Moore played fairly well considering they are/were the most hit Qb's in the NFL..how much can they do when they are running for their lives?
It's actually both better and worse. Word after the draft is that Ireland wanted him, but graded him at 3rd round value. Then the Saints drafted him in the late 2nd. And so, John Jerry became a Miami Dolphin.
Yes, hes a very good and capable player. My point is, I think he would be putting up big numbers if he had Brees or Brady as his QB, as opposed to Flacco.
Disagree, this yr's draft has been pretty good, and it has been Ireland's first "all Ireland" draft. A part of the problem with the Te position, imo, is Sparano is an ex Te coach, and he has outdated standards for what a Te should do, he is thinking John Spagnola, not Tony Gonzalez, and it shows.
A lot, IMO. Using TEs comes down to making pre-snap reads IMO. The TEs provide so much versatility, but if the QB can't recognize what the defense is trying to take away, the TE loses that versatility.
John Jerry: #73 overall Jimmy Graham: #95 overall Tony Maoeki: #93 overall Manny Sanders: #82 overall
To many instant pressures SB, to many times Colombo or Carey or Incognito are beaten off the snap and the Qb has no time to pass. #3 in the NFL in sacks allowed behind the rams and the seahawks. Let alone pressures.
Again I think a lot of that goes back to Ireland and Sparano for their inability to judge talent adequately.
I really believe Channing Crowder is saying what other players are thinking but afraid to say. He is blunt but really believes in what he says. It could be truth or merely sour grapes, its just a matter of interpretation. Personally, I wish we still had Crowder on the roster, he certainly wouldn't be any worse than some of the other bodies posing as linebackers on the Dolphins roster.
Not trying to show you up, just pointing out that, even after coaching Graham at the Senior Bowl, they still passed on him, I wanted him in Miami very badly, they went with John F'ing Jerry instead.
too early to grade this draft. Daniel Thomas can keep fumbling and find his way out of the league, etc..etc.. this draft can blow up as well.
Well, imo it is not a lack of an eye for talent, it is a poor concept of predicting what will be needed, they keep fighting the last season, not the next season, they do their homework but forget projecting is more important then what happened last yr, each season has to be viewed as a different event, not a continuation of a single event.
I think his skillset would fair better as a penetrating dtackle in a 43, because when he's outside he doesn't have quick enough feet in space to do damage.
Yes, Colombo and Carey are awful. So were Alleman and Ndukwe. The league is littered with awful offensive lineman. The QB needs to recognize it and make adjustments.
Didn't we draft Odrick because Ferguson had just retired, Starks was slated for NT duty because Soliai had yet to perform, and we would have needed a D-Lineman? Our lineup was supposed to be Odrick, Starks, Langford, with Soliai subbing in as reserve NT and McDaniel (who hadn't shown anything) and Merling (who still hasn't shown much) being the subs? We also needed another OLB, although Misi has yet to show he is good enough for full time work. I seem to remember half the board or more saying we didn't need Bryant because Marshall Bess and Hartline would have been enough. The Bush move was 50/50 on this board really, although nearly everyone wanted Bradshaw. Colombo was universally panned. Guys like Gaither and McKinnie walked while we got stuck with a terrible player. Sure, hindsight is 20/20, but revisionist history ain't history.
