A combo of Kalish, Reddick and a RHH 4th OFer. If I were a betting man I'd say Kalish is your opening day RFer. I'll say it again I will be shocked if the Sox give out a big contract to anyone this offseason.

And that is the problem, you still need offense out of 1st base, you cannot pin the whole season on Rizzo hitting even what he weighs, that is why Franceour makes sense for SD.

Since..now? Franceour has at least had a good stick, Pierre could play LF and add speed.

He hurt his arm diving for a ball in April in Triple A, then had I believe back surgery in August. He should be ready for ST.

Again it was 153 plate appearances for a 21 year old. He's the future of the franchise, you let him play and give him at bats and experience and not worry about what he hits. The team is going to be bad again next year, so you might as well let him get the experience now.

As for Francoeur, I can't believe I have the same conversation about him each year. The guy is a platoon player. He's not a good hitter. A career line of .270/.313/.433/.746 is not good for a corner OFer. If his name was Joe Smith no one would be talking about him, but like Grady Sizemore, people remember him for for things he did back in 2007. Plus you basically already had Jeff Francoeur on your team, his name was Ryan Ludwick (.261/.332/.455/.787), expect Ludwick had a little more power and got on base a little better.

And Pierre, not sure why you'd want him either. He's again a name player who hasn't been good in awhile. Plus he's average if that on defense now. Plus he was pretty bad on the base paths this year too.

If you want a fast OFer with a plus glove Coco Crisp would make some sense, especially in that ball park. But I'd leave Pierre and Francoeur alone.

If Francoeur can duplicate last year he can be an average to decent player. But the problem is, he can't. He has to many holes in his swing and swings at everything under the sun. Hes just not a good hitter plan and simple.

color me slightly surprised...not overly significant, but slightly surprised.
Since he was moved to bullpen it just didnt pan out....now I can still see the other Killer B's giving the rotation a run for the money come ST.

Is it wrong to announce San Diego has agreed to terms and signed Reyes!!!!!

:tongue2:The Padres signed 16-year-old outfielder Franmil Reyes out of the Dominican Republic for $700K, tweets MLB.com's Corey Brock. Baseball America's Ben Badler has more on Reyes.

Luddy's problem was he was to expensive (welcome to padres' fan world) and we did not have a player top 10 hr's for us in 2010, inow, Franceour makes sense...for SD.

As does Pierre as we need 2 corner outfielders and really have no one ready in the minors.

Rizzo...looked lost at the plate RF, but he tore up AAA ball, which is why he is looking like a 4A player.

And Kelly? 180 baserunners in 146 innings and 3.98 era in AA ball, what a gem of prospect he is.

People were comparing Rizzo and Montero, but the PCL is on a lower level as far as pitching is concerned....I think Rizzo will be fine, he was beating up the IL...

    Rizzo is 22 years old.

But yes, it's obvious to tell right now that he's a AAAA player.

Yeah I'm sure you can put the 4A label on a 21 year old player after just 153 plate appearances. You're knocking Rizzo yet you want to bring in Francoeur and Pierre? Really? Clearly something is wrong with this picture or this line of thinking.

Who was comparing Rizzo and Montero? Montero has a much better bat. But Rizzo is no stiff with the stick either. He had a tough 50 plus games at the MLB level. It happens to young players. He really was pushed aggressively through the system last year and forced their hand to promote him because he was just destroying Triple A pitching. Young players struggle sometimes, it happens. But to write off a young player like that is just insane.

Absolutely brilliant piece by FanGraphs on Not overpaying for Yu Darvish

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/dont-overpay-for-darvish/
This is well researched (including the Darvish Facts) and laid out correctly on how to approach the concept of unproven arms from Japan with long history of NON-MLB success (comparing to other Asian League arms and most recently DiceK).

It's clear Darvish will be wearing an MLB uniform sooner or later; the real question is where does he fit into a MLB rotation #1 - or - #5. Where is his proper price point for the return on investment compared to all other top rotation arms Top 10, Top 20, Top 50, Top 100?.

Treating him as a Super 2 seems about right.

Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein explained in general terms what he’s looking for in his next manager. The person must have “leadership and communication skills; he must place an emphasis on preparation and accountability; he must establish high standards and a winning culture; he must have integrity and an open mind; and he must have managerial or coaching experience at the major league level,” Epstein stated yesterday. Here are some specifics on the Cubs’ search:
Beantown and Goatville are battling over the same Managerial candidates....and compensation for Theo and the boys still has to be resolved.

If you werent concerned over the Yankees signing Colon, and Garcia as everyday starters when it happen then my Capital dwelling amigo, you are the whacked one....

And I am cooling on Beltran, however he is better than Swisher even at his age....as well, Kemp is a free agent next year.....me thinks they make a roll at him, thus the Swisher 1 year deal....

I, along with you it sounds, was Concerned on Colon, Garcia, Jones, and Chavez to some degrees (contract/age/injury history vs. upside)...as I was with Martin (contract plus upside).....and as we both know, they worked out far better than expected. That's my point with Oswalt....relax and wait and see most importantly if they sign him before shouting from the roof tops how "pissed" you would be. Cause, in the end you could be wrong based on low expectations or return on investment.

And its not worth the effort if he isnt signed....even keel - before real debate is necessary.

Exactly on the Swisher deal! the trade market during the season, and next years offseason sets up better for replacement value than this season.

On Jones and Chavez I wasn't concerned they were bench players....I doubt you see any big contracts this year by NY, because next year, they have to sign Cano, Granderson, find a RF and if Kemp thats big money, and address Mo leaving (which I get emotional thinking about right now ha!)...however I think they can roll with Sori, Roberson, or even Joba as the closer....ugh thus it begins....

and what good is being even keeled when you can fly off the handle, especially with their video game batting lineup....all homers, no clutch baby!!

Tito Francona makes sense in St Louis, they are a upper payroll team with good talent and a winning tradition, but they are also very low key which sort of fits his style imo.

    Would you do this deal????

SF Giant side: Yes or No
NY Yankees side: Yes or No
Boston RedSox side: would you ramp up the offer?

For me, if I am SF, I would be hard pressed to trade him for only Montero and Nunez (even if Huff is off the books too).
If I am NYY, yes, I would make the deal in a heartbeat....and happily tolerate Huff's money for 1 year, and let him be a rotational Left handed bat, 1B/RF/DH/Pinch Hitter type veteran player. (I dont love him at all...but for Lincecum, you could do a lot worse in eating a salary).
If I am BOS, damn skippy I would be concerned and want to throw my hat in the ring quickly...but not sure what they can offer to shift the deal to them.

From Yanks perspective: You wouldnt want Tim Lincecum, cause you want to hold on to Montero and Nunez????

    OKkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!:wink2:

    seriously, what dont you like?

From SF side, I get them saying No way...not enough in return. But Yanks??

has nothing to do with the players involved, I just don't like him....I don't like someone who throws that hard, multiple pitches, angles and weighes 165 lbs...sooner or later he is going to breakdown...as well I dont like any pitchers from the National League that isn't named Clayton Kershaw....in fact I am not trading Montero for anything other than Felix or Clayton....

Usually the rule is add a run to the ERA when NL goes AL, that would put him at 3.98.....for him I think it goes even higher, the injury raved Red Sox of 2010 tooled on him out there....actualy they tooled on everybody that series including Cain, and Sanchez...

and especially if they are eating all that money, for basically a bench player....no way do you trade both those guys too......

Leave it to the professionals son, you aren't good at this....

Worked pretty well for Pedro. You would be nuts not to trade Nunez and Montero for Tim Lincecum. Giants would be nuts to even entertain that idea.

Eh, I could see such a deal being done as fan sentiment is far behind economic realities of FA in MLB.

But I'd doubt the Yankees would do it, or the BoSox for that matter.

Reason being you have some good FA pitchers who you can sign for only $$$$, which would let you keep your top prospects, if you dump them for Lincecum and he does poorly then the GM is screwed.

If he does poorly? Thats exactly why the Yankees or Red Sox SHOULD trade for Lincecum. Because hes not going to do poorly. You could say "If he does poorly" about every free agent pitcher out there. You don't have those worries with Lincecum. He is the sure thing.

Yankees lineup makes for a great sports card collection, not so good when it counts though.

Sort of remind me of the yankees circa 82 tbh.
