I think some of the systems now don't allow you to proceed without swiping a drivers liscense no? Thats just what I assumed from watching them swipe my drivers license.

Apparently. There was that story in Hawaii where a family was eating a couple of sandwiches while shopping in a grocery store. They saved the wrappers to pay for them at check out. They bought about $50 in groceries. They forgot to pay for the sandwiches and got stopped by security. By all accounts it was a simple misunderstanding and they immediately offered to pay the $5 bucks for the two sandwiches. But the manager had them arrested per company policy. Since they had a kid with them that kid got taken to social services and was there for a day or two. They had just got to town in the last week or so and had never been to the store before so there was no history. There was just a manager who was either too obsessed or too stupid to look past a company policy.

    Its not that.

The current system is unfair. No one can define what looking old enough is. Yet, people who sell alcohol can be arrested and fined for guessing wrong. And you can get caught in a sting too where the customer can be made to look older.

If there's going to be a legal drinking age, then it should mandatory for EVERYONE to show an id before buying a drink instead of putting all the responsibility and punishment on the bartender/server/clerk etc.

    It happened to me.

I was working the day shift at a restaurant. The day bartender's job is to basically prep everything for that night. It was a Sunday. You almost have no one coming to the bar during the day on a Sunday. I'm busy stocking, a guy comes to the bar and asks for a beer. He's around 6 ft, glasses, tweed jacket and hat. Grayish hair. I think nothing of it, get him his beer and ring him up. Turn back to him, to find he's gone and there's a guy with a badge instead, telling me I just gave a beer to a minor. He had me go outside with him, and he wrote me a $500 citation. I lost my job the second I walked back in. I had been there for 5 years and was lead bartender. Turns out the kid was only 17 but had those gray patches in his hair like some people do. and he just looked older. To me, he looked in 30's at least.

Yankee Stadium they check everyone ID, doesn't matter how old you are. If you are 92 and you don't have an idea, you don't get a beer.

Silly lmeister3, Chuck Norris doesn't drink this "beer" you speak of, his blood gets him drunk 24/6........his blood is vodka, 151, everclear and Asheville Mountain moonshine mixed.

And yes, I said 24/6.......Chuck Norris doesn't believe in Sundays, because he is god.

    It is.

Like I said, its the only law I can think of where there is no way to know if you're breaking it or not, unless you check everyone's ID regardless of age. There's only two ways to go as it stands now: guess or make everyone show their ID, no exceptions. The rule of thumb is check everyone that looks under 30. I challenge anyone to come up with an accurate description of someone who looks 30 taht can't also be applied to 25 or 20.

    I'm 32.

As stupid as it sounds, all it would have taken was someone from upper level management doing an audit and the girl could have lost her job for not following company policy regardless of age.

Happened to another store within the company I work for. A guy who had been with the company for over 20 years was selling cigarettes to someone and asked for her ID (because of policy) even though he sold her cigarettes every single day. She didn't have it, but he sold it to her anyway because he knew she was over age. Happened to be a compliance auditor in his line and he got fired. No ifs, ands or buts.

But where does common sense override cover my ***? I get asked for ID by the same guy at the same gas station every 3 days for a can of chew. What about that makes any sense?
