My bet is 5-11 sitting around 9-12 in draft order.

Unless there's tremendous value I'm not high on picking those guys. The Joe Flaccos of the world aren't exactly what this team needs. There are perhaps eight to ten difference maker QBs in the league. The rest are all riding a high wave of passing rule changes and good teams.

    Big Ben
    Brady
    Rivers
    Rodgers
    Stafford
    Cutler
    Manning
    Vick

The Ryans, Romos, and the rest just aren't impressing me at all.

I know watching the game last night is coloring my perception, but I get an athletic Drew Brees/pygmy Aaron Rodgers when I see RG3.

Realistically, I want us picking #1 or #2 which might not be possible.

    :(

We're winning our way towards screwing up next season the way I see it. I can't get excited about picking in the middle of the first round yet again. And trading up half of our draft when we also have so many other needs is not a good solution either. Once it was clear the season was lost we should've just tanked it.

All of this talk of the draft...sheesh.....

I don't know if this has already been addressed and if it has, my apologies, but if the season were to end today, the order of the draft would be...

Indianapolis: Indeed possible they draft a QB as the heir to Peyton Manning. With the injury to his neck the future of the Colts has to be on Robert Irsay's mind.
Minnesota: Just drafted Christain Ponder and although is having a tough rookie year, I believe the Vikings stick with him.
    Carolina: Cam Newton. Enough said
St Louis: The Rams vested their future in Sam Bradford. Whether or not St Louis elects to go in a different direction is difficult to say. Their problem reach way beyond the QB and seeing what they already have invested, probably inclined to help rather than abandon Bradford.
Washington: Mike Shannahan's stint in Washington has been disasterous as far as his QB carosel is concerned. Donavan McNabb, Rex Grossman, John Beck, back to Rex Grossman...one could get dizzy watching. Look for Washington to take a QB in the draft.
Miami: That now brings us to our beloved Dolphins. According to my calculations, only 2 QB's have been taken. The question then becomes...are we smart enough to draft the right QB for our team? Do we get the right man for the job?

And that's even if we even WANT to get a QB in the draft!! I know, sacrelidge, right? Why WOULDN'T we want to draft a QB?

Well...look at what's happened in the last three games Miami's played. Matt Moore's tossed 3 TD's in two of those 3 games and the rest of the team stepped up in the game against Washington.

Yes I know what alot of you are thinking, "yea but that was against Kansas City, Washington and Buffalo". True, they aren't NFL powerhouses, but...if (yea I know, if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its *** when it hopped) the Dolphins keep playing at this level...if Matt Moore keeps his performance at this level, is drafting a QB the solution t our problems? Moore's averaged a QB rating of 118.67 over the last three weeks and has had the highest QB rating in two of those three weeks (144.5 vs KC and 133.3 vs Buffalo)...higher than Aaron Rodgers, higher than Drew Brees, higher than Tony Romo, higher than any of the "elite" franchise QB's. He's really playing his *** off!!

Not to mention he's in line for MVP of the week yet again.

So, trying to put all of this into perspective...

If we elected to draft a QB in the draft, getting one of the big names coming out in next year's draft isn't going to be a problem.

If Moore keeps playing at the level he's playing at, is the puzzle piece of QB filled and perhaps address another piece of the puzzle?

Still quite a ways to go in the season. This 3 game streak we're on? Could be a fluke. Could be everything finally falling in to place. Six more games to go to find out.

The draft is never cut and dry about ones draft position and what ultimately is selected by the FO, etc. Zero guarantees, history has proven that time and time again. Why worry about having the #1, #2, or #32 pick per round, in and of themselves, those slot positions do not equate to - nor limit - what it takes to build the best possible 53 man roster.

Before the season started, I thought we would win 7 to 9 games ( I got real optimistic for a brief hour or two and predicted 10, but generally 7 to 9 is what I thought). I figured that would land us about the middle of the draft and that with our full complement of picks and the number of franchise QB prospects in this draft, that would be enough to have a QB fall to us or within range we could trade up for one. While I am less certain about 7 to 9 wins than I was, I now expect that there may be even more good QBs in this draft than I originally anticipated. I still feel confident that we could address the QB situation in this draft regardless of how many wins we end up with.

We traded away one of our 7 picks via the Reggie Bush trade.....its conditional, and not sure what round at this point in time.

    Really??? You sure?

I thought is was finalized as Bush for safety Jonathon Amaya and a late-round conditional pick.

As of now, GBN Draft Report for Traded picks shows:

    Other/conditional (2012)

    • New Orleans has an undisclosed pick from Miami (RB Reggie Bush)

Of the 7 ahead of us, CAR, STL, and MIN would likely not take a QB once Luck is taken, and maybe even ARI considering what they've spent for Kolb.

Jacksonville took Gabbert with the 10th pick in this years draft, I doubt they will give up so quick on him and draft a QB in the first round this year.
That leaves the Colts, the Redskins, us and maybe Arizona (I believe they will stick with Kolb).
The bigger problem would be to keep the draft position and not end up somewhere between 15 and 20, since our team might win some more games.

Assuming Miami ends up picking 8th or higher, for my money I'd almost have to say it's Brandon Weeden or bust barring a trade up. I think Landry Jones is okay, and yeah...just okay. Robert Griffin III is an interesting prospect. I don't think he'd make an impact right off the bat; he'd have to sit for a while and learn. I don't like his throwing motion - too slow and too elongated in my opinion. His footwork in the pocket worries me as well, and upon watching him, I have to wonder how much of that is really his talent shining through; or is it the scheme and the combination of players around him? Honestly, I wouldn't touch him in round 1. He's this year's Colin Kaepernick to me, and I just don't like that thought. At all.

and whats wrong with Colin Kap..That guy hasn't played yet?..I love how just because Alex Smith is starting and playing well, ive noticed that people who weren't high on Kap last year are quick to insinuate something that is not relevant yet..

I'am still high on Kap, and will be so until he gets his shots at the position.

I think you misinterpreted my post with respect to Colin Kaepernick. Of all the quarterbacks in last year's draft class, Ryan Mallett's off-field "issues" aside, Kaepernick had more knocks on him than the rest of the guys. He was a system guy, funky delivery, not all that comfortable in the pocket, had some productive players in his offense (had some very productive RBs as I recall), was probably labeled by most as a guy who'd need to sit and learn for a while - characteristics that are all very similar to Robert Griffin III this year. And that's assuming RGIII even declares. I believe I heard somewhere that he's considering staying to pursue law school.

As for Kaepernick, who knows? Jim Harbaugh thought highly enough of him to draft him in round 2. That says something. He's also made Alex Smith pretty useful, which says something else as well. Kaepernick seemed to me to be more decent athlete than good quarterback. I feel like Robert Griffin III is of that same ilk as well. He's probably an even better athlete than Kaepernick, but I'm not sure if he's much better as a quarterback prospect than Kaepernick was coming out. Just my opinion, but I'd rather have a good quarterback prospect than a decent athlete leading my team. Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Matt Schaub, and to a lesser extent Ben Roethlisberger - non of them were the type of athlete coming out of college that Kaepernick and Griffin appear to be. I'd rather have a guy like that leading my team.

Giants and Saints still play tonight.....but for now.....

Indianapolis is now in effect three full games behind the rest of the field in the hunt for the top pick with just 5 games to play as Minnesota and St. Louis, the other two teams with 2 wins, both play much harder schedules than the Colts.

While the Colts have locked up the #1 pick, the second selection remains very much up for grabs.
St. Louis would pick second were the draft held today, but in fact the collective W-L of the Rams' opponents this year is only .002 less than that of Minnesota.
    Jacksonville would pick 4th,
    followed by Carolina picking 5th
and Miami currently sits 6th (Redskins upset @ Seattle helped big time).

As usual, the full, updated current selection for this year's opening round will be posted after MNF.

if we stay at least in 6th place we got a shot at Barkley.
The only danger here is if St Louis trades down but with Blackmon on board they'd be stupid to pass on him.
