He's not nearly as bad as people here make him out to be. He was conservative when he didn't trust his QB. He has a history with the run n shoot, so I'm not sure he's conservative by nature, instead by necessity. If you plan on keeping Mark Sanchez as your QB, you really shouldn't want an OC that will put the game in his hands. Sparano will do a good job of not letting Sanchez beat you.
Tell you about Tony Sparano? Prepare to hear: "I watched the film!" "Obviously" this one, you will hear the players say that so often you will want to vomit. " 'kay" Sparano was hamstrung by a crappy Oline and had only 2 good Qb's to work with, Pennnington and Moore, when he had talented players in those positions he was creative and very fundamentally sound, you may still see Ground and Pound, but expect to see more big plays out of running the ball.
B. Schott vs. TS as OC - yeah may give a slight nod to B. Schott barely. however B. Schott vs TS & Todd Haley combo....no way, B. Schott doesnt stand a chance to that combo.
I don't think anyone really knows what Sparano's playcalling will be like. I can say he's a hard worker and well-liked by his team. I wouldn't worry about the conservative attitude he had here (it was rather conservative the first three years but this past year he somewhat let up) because he isn't the head coach.
My guess, based on how poor the o-line was despite 3 first round picks, is that Tony is a good coach, not an offensive/o-line guru. So the less responsibilities he has, the better he'll be. If the Jets sign Manning, it wont matter. He's his own offensive coordinator.
Could not have said it better myself. Sparano was the worst Head Coach in Dolphin history. Three losing seasons in a row, and some of those losses directly lie on Sparano's shoulders from his plain stupidity. Only reason he even got the job in the first place is because he was a Parcells suck-up in Dallas.
Three losing seasons in a row is "not as bad as people here make him out to be"???? Some of the loses were directly because of his boneheaded timeouts and stupidity. Who cares if the players like him.....he still lost crucial games due to his coaching. Had Parcells not have been here, he'd never have been hired in the first place. For all you JET fans out there, you had better sign an damn good kicker, cuz that is what Tony plays for is the Field Goal.
Kelly is channeling Rams beat writer Tony Softli, who last night began raving about a Fisher/Schotty/Williams trio in STL. It's just his opinion, nothing more.
I'll have to disagree there, Cameron inherited a BAD team with Cleo Lemon as his QB and a ****ty OL. Can't judge a coach on just one year, if that were true, Jimmy Johnson should have been fired after his first year going 1-15.
Cameron couldn't lead. He lost the locker room and his players didn't respect him. It was a complete debacle. And I won't even bring up his disastrous personnel decisions.
I still put Sparano as the worst, at least Cam got us a first overall pick. Sparano wasted our time driving us into mediocrity and lame draft picks. Players did'nt respect Sparano either, look at Ricky Williams comments after he left. Said Sparano micro-managed. But Who really cares if the players like the coach or not. At least Cam had some attributes on offense, he was the only one who knew how to use Ronnie Brown. Before he got hurt, Brown was leading the league in yards from scrimmage. Injuries just plagued the defense. They could not even stop a hurt Culpepper. Sparano had no attributes, especially on the OL, the only one he had was his STUPID FIST PUMPS AFTER FG'S
Sparano got us back up to mediocrity. How is saying a coach micro-managed not respecting? The fist pump thing is so stupid. The guy partied like a rock star when Miami scored a touchdown. When Chad Henne is your quarterback you tend to have to play for field goals because you not getting many touchdowns. Once Henne is down he has a quarterback who can throw three touchdowns in one game. Not an Al Bundy stat. Tony Sparano is not nearly as bad as people are making him out to be. However he does do somethings I am not a fan of. He tends to sit on leads and rely on defense instead of having the offense at least try to put the nail in the coffin. And his time out management was pretty poor.
So wait you like cam because he lost enough to get a high pick lol wha? And you do realize that sparano had to fix the mess cam left. Your logic makes no sense.
Hence, he was a bad coach. Time Management? How about when he called time-out on fourth and inches only to punt? Stupidity if you ask me. Sparano was terrible! I'll never comprehend the fact that there are still Dolphin fans out there voicing approval over his Coaching!
That 11-5 season was a fluke, every Dolphin fan should see that by now! Exactly how did sparano fix the mess? by going 7-9, 7-9, 6-10? Really?????? Now not all the blame is on Sparano, just his crappy coaching. The majority of the blame belongs to the FAT FRAUD DINOSAUR NAMED BILL PARCELLS!!!!!
There are a lot of fans here that care more about getting the first pick than winning. We witnessed it all season long.
You don't win 11 games on a fluke. You just want a reason to trivialize sparano and anything positive he might have done.
Ross Tucker of ESPN.com raises an interesting possibility. Could Chad Henne follow Sparano from Miami to New York to provide competition for Mark Sanchez.
He was left dazed and confused but he recovered. O-line guy, stuck with a horrible RT out of blind loyalty. Every single forum knew to pick up a Waters or anything. Instead they were one sack away from tying a record. Hackney speeches...
Sparano always settles for field goals, he never takes chances, he will never try a fake punt or on-side kick (unless he has to at the end of the game)....he lacks imagination or anything that will make you think he is anything but a very below-average OC. He's plain vanilla. Glad he is gone and with the Jets. Tony is a college coach who shouldn't be in the NFL.
It is easy. I do not expect coaches to be perfect or right all the time. Plus I find it hard to take anyone serious who calls him stupid.
I don't think he will be a better coordinator than what you had..and don't let him pick the lineman he wants..The players will play hard, and because of how much Ryan is digging his own grave every time he opens his mouth, which was predictable by the way, {your current turmoil that is}, Sparano will probably be your head coach pretty soon...He's a new york guy thru and thru.
OMG. beating a Jets team led by Checkdown Chad with plays called by Tony would be the greatest thing ever
I don't expect coachs to be perfect all the time either, but sparano was not a good coach for the Miami Dolphins. I will hold my ground saying Sparano was a Bill Parcells streamline hire and pet project. Bill Parcells left the franchise in worse condition and still walked away with millions.....that doesn't bother you?
I do not think he left the franchise in worse condition than when he took it over. Plus I all reports were that Parcells would leave early when he took the job. Kind of work less hard every year. So basically him walking away was pretty much what I expected. You can hold your ground all you want but the facts of the situation show that Sparano was a well thought of coordinator who people thought would get an opportunity to be a head coach. I am not saying he did a good job. He is what his record says. He was decent to bad. He wasn't horrible. Hell if he was horrible we would be in the Luck/RGIII talk after being in the talk for the first round pick last year and the year before.
Sparano is a good coach. He was the scapegoat for the failure that was the Bill Parcells regime. I liked the guy and his players did too. At this point, I hope he falls on his face but I doubt he will.
Sure I can tell you about Tony Sparano in 3 words... Sucks for you. As a Neutral fan I'd say "I hope he doesn't destroy your front like his did ours" As I Dolphins fan I'd say "I hope he cripples you as bad"
Worst 2 minute manager I've ever witnessed. He really does belong as a Jet. Positives: -can memorize stats like rainman -He did lose weight through will power so I'll always give him kudos for that -never throws anyone under the bus, except the fans -Has a sense of humor and levity
That's pretty funny. But he was the playcaller for this team as well. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/dal/2007.htm It's also funny how they haven't achieved anything close since then.
Sparano as an offensive coordinator will do pretty well. Most of his shortcomings have already been addressed. On the positive side he'll be a unifying force in the locker room and will probably help to bridge some of the gaps that you saw this year. He has also shown a willingness to adapt to new offensive philosophies in his tenure, which bodes well for him to salvage Mark Sanchez. On the negative side, his constant tinkering and shuffling of the offensive line has left it in worse condition than when he actually arrived here, a damning indictment for a guy considered an o-line guru prior to his arrival in Miami. His in-game clock management leaves a lot - A LOT - to be desired, though hopefully the offense won't burn timeouts like they did during his tenure here. The most frustrating aspect of Tony Sparano though, and the one that you'll have to learn to live with, is his abject inability (or perhaps steadfast refusal) to make any type of halftime adjustments. Offense sputtering? Well, no worries, let's just try the same old tired plays! Defense getting torched? No worries, we don't need to bring any new players! We're good to go! I think that this trait is born out of his stubbornness (most likely learned in part from Bill Parcells), which can also manifest itself in other ways, namely loyalty to his players. Loyalty on it's own is a good thing, but this year he jumped the shark, continuing to play guys like Marc Columbo and Reshad Jones, even though they were clearly below average as football players. While I want to see Tony succeed, I think he would have been better served going to the collegiate ranks and honing up his coaching skills, rather than jumping into bed with a hated division rival. That said, I do hope he finds personal success - but only after crashing and burning with the J.E.T.S.
Does it really matter? The Jets are eating their own faster than a pack Hyenas on a Zebra and the wounds are bleeding worse than a hemophiliac who fell through a plate glass door. The whole team is just ploding, ex, in, out all of them. Your football misery alone has been my joy since Marino retired.
