http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm There's talk in league circles that Dolphins defensive coordinator Dom Capers is looking to get out of town. No quotes or anything, just a report on rumors.
Where is the wave goodbye smiley? Honestly, this guy is the highest paid assistant coach in theleague, is getting paid more than the head coach on this team and he may want out? Good riddance if true.
I don't think it really has that big of an effect on this team. They might be better of w/ a younger guy who is an up and comer. Especially with the phins looking to get younger. Somebody mentioned San Diego's LB coach as a candidate.
If Capers quits/gets fired/is allowed to quit instead of being fired, I think our defensive coordinator next year will be John Pagano, San Diego's OLB coach.
After his abysmal performance in Miami, he's better off chasing some other pipe dream than to become a head coach again in the NFL.
I don't know if this may make JT's trade scenario even more possible, being that he loves Capers so much. If we switch to a full-time 4-3 he might want out.
If true, I think it is because Capers has not been able to run as much 3-4 as he would like and he realizes that we're probably two more offseasons away from having the personnel on defense to run an effective 3-4.
I hate to admit it but it looks like the outstanding defense we were getting was due more to Saban work than Capers. Our defense was good while we were using the hybrid 3-4,4-3 system that kept offenses guessing. Capers tried to convert it to a 3-4 and he had players playing in the wrong positions and it simply hasnt worked.
Please, no. The only good thing about the Cover 2 and Tampa 2 is that they don't require great cornerback play.
If Capers does leave and Cam does bring in John Pagano then Miami will likely go to a full time 3-4 scheme because of who he has worked for and they run a 3-4 in SD now.
I really wish we can go back to the hybrid but there aren't many teams other than the Pats who have used it. Maybe steal a defensive coach from em?
We've got the scheme's playbook. Honestly, it's just a matter of finding a coordinator with enough intelligence to realize the point is to keep rotating your personnel to keep the offense guessing.
if he wants to bail on us goodbye, i say that to anybody who wants out of here, times are tough and we only want people who can stick it out like us fans do
don't forget how it gave Randy Moss gator arms I think the Tampa 2 has proven its worth, but as long as we sorely lack personnel I guess it won't matter
I know Singeltary already has a job in SanFran and is a candidate for the Atlanta job, but I'd love to see him here as D.C. He'd be given more power than he is being given in Sanfran being that's Mike Nolan's defense.
I'd rather forget that the defense exists. The hybrid 3-4 gave us the best defense this team has seen in a long time. Why throw that away in favor of a defensive fad that offenses have figured out how to beat?
He came to my mind almost imediately but then I figured he would get a HC job or he won't be allowed to come here for an interview without permission from the 49ers because he is an assisant HC to Nolan.
After the start this year, I often speculated that Saban did wonders for our D, much more than initially thought.
Still completely different defenses. There's a difference between "philosophy" and "playbook." You can watch the Steelers play the 3-4 and the Bucs and Colts play the Tampa 2/Cover 2 and you'll see the difference.
the Hybrid defense is just as much a fad as anything else but a fad where teams need to employ 80 year-old NT's isn't a great one if you can find a super young NT then great, but if he gets injured you are screwed
Judging by Capers' performance, the playbook is missing in action. I would recommend Pepper Johnson of the Pats. He's been a LB and DL coach for them since 2000. Surely, he's picked up something.
Cover 2 is a zone coverage. 34 is a front. 43 is a front. Cover 2 is a zone coverage. What the hell are you two arguing about?

You will then know what all defensive coordinators know. It's not about what YOUR (the defensive coordinators) knowledge. It's about the PLAYERS knowledge. INJURIES, EXPERIENCE, and ATHLETISM of his players have limited Dom Capers this year. There is nothing more to it than that.
I think Monte Kiffin killed Desides' father or something he hates the scheme used by Noll's Steelers and Dungy's Bucs Tampa has a very good defense this year and I cannot name one guy on their squad
