I don't know about you guys, but I think our top goal should be to try and acquire G Carl Nicks from New Orleans. With solidifying the guard spot and then taking a T with our number one pick would really sure up the play up front. Then using our second rounder on maybe Weeden or any other position like OLB/DE or secondary. With consistent offensive line play, it would really make life a whole easier to whatever young QB we bring in. What do you guys think? Anyone else's ideas for free agency?
Carl Nicks is my #1 wish in free agency too. Allows Richie to move to RG which suits him better, giving us a massive and powerful Husker guard contingent. #2 wish is Anthony Spencer to bookend with Cameron Wake at OLB.
I'd love to get him, but we'll have to break the bank to get him which kind of limits other free agents and may stop us from re-signing Soliai or Langford.
I'm down with the first part but not the second. If we spend big money in free agency then we should stick John Jerry at rt and strengthen other areas of our team. In your scenario our offensive line would be: LT - 1st Round Pick RG - High Priced Free Agent C - 1st Round Pick LG - Incognito (cheap) RT - 1st Round pick Our offensive line would be very good but that is a huge amount of resources used on one unit.
It's not far off from the 49ers OL. They have 3 first round draft picks, one 3rd rounder and a medium priced free agent making up their OL. The 3rd rounder, Adam Snyder replaced 2nd rounder Chilo Rachal after 3 games in the starting lineup.
I certainly hope you mean Orton as a backup...The guy reeks of mediocrity, even with McCoy around... I think the bigger question is who is going to be our HC and OC/DC. We might not even consider keeping Soliai (who I like) if we change to a 4/3 d. I still like the idea of Nicks though. I know we've got a lot of money tied into the OL, but when can we really say it's been consistently good in the last.....since Shues was here, I think... I would think that we'll look more for bodies than elite quality...We need 2 starting safeties, no matter the style of D. We'll need an OLB or pressure DE. We need either an upgrade to Fasano or a #2 pass catching guy. We need at the very least a back up QB. And then there is the OL, needing a RT, RG (assuming we can move Ritchie to where he belongs) at the very least. JJ might be the RT, but can we count on that ?? There are certainly holes to fill, but who the staff is will go a long way determining who we really go after in FA...
Barring QB, our #1 pressing need (draft or FA) is a top OLB to pair with Wake ... has been the same issue the last 2 years. it's more important than OL, TE, S or WR ... in that order ....
A big play, low-target wide receiver, or a pass rusher. I was all for giving Brian Hartline or Davone Bess a chance to develop into strong #2's but they if anything regressed this year. I'd like someone who we don't need to "feed" the ball. Two players who need a heavy workload to be effective aren't going to work. Desean Jackson or Marques Colston yes, Wes Welker or Dwayne Bowe not so much. A pass rusher would be nice. Particularly someone who can rush on the right edge, but that's kind of a limited market. It's mostly John Abraham, who I'm not at all opposed to but we've largely avoided veterans and that might be an Ireland thing. Calais Campbell is also potentially on the market, and while it's not so much a need, he's consistently one of the best interior rushers in the league and if one is out there, you've got to consider letting Langford and Soliai to walk.
Carl Nicks and Peyton Hillis in FA and if possible Jeremichal Finley. Re-sign Paul Soliai, use franchise tag on Kendall Langford and trade him along with our 1st this year and our 1st next year(this is starting price, not saying it will be the final price) to the Rams/Vikings for their 2nd or 3rd overall pick to draft RG3. And my offseason wish list would be changing to a 4-3 scheme. Odrick-Starks-Soliai-Wake That lineup screams havoc IMO.
John Abraham - 2nd best pass rusher available after Mario Williams who I am assuming will get franchised. Abraham was excellent last year, has experience in a 3-4, doesnt appear to be going back to ATL and moving back to 3-4 OLB would prolong his career a la JT. Putting him across from Wake with Dansby and Burnett in the middle and you have the best combo of pass rushers of any 3-4 team.
Hard to say until we know who will be HC. But I will say that the safety position is one I would target. Just to throw out a name, I'll go with Craig Steltz.
Soooo Tyvon Branch, LaRon Landry, Dashon Goldson, Michael Griffin or Reggie Nelson? Id probably go with Goldson or gamble on Landry that he can stay healthy. Griffin has excellent ball skills but hes a shady tackler. Branch would probably be my 3rd choice.
my number 1 priority get Sage the rage resigned and let Marino show him the ropes. bring in two wr's to replace Bess and Hartline those guys are not impact players we need to improve there. here is a idea how about drafting a big time tightend and stop spending all our money on oline. using ceaaper players on oline and paying skill players more money will win us games its what you might say like a corporate job the better the skill the better your crew is.
Jermichael Finley sure would look nice in a Phins uni - he is only 25 (but will probably be franchised, unless GB is dumb and franchises Flynn instead). My other votes would be for: Mario Williams (27) or Calais Campbell(26).
I think mario will be franchised based on how well he was doing up until the injury. I think nicks is our best fa option and then we can just go with what we have and not have to draft o.line this year. Second to that would be pass rusher in the void of JT I think we will draft our future fs this year
lol If this fanbase gets annoyed when Marshall drops a pass, then they'd be calling for Finley's head within his first few weeks here. No love for Jacob Tamme? He's done well filling in for Clark when he missed time and I doubt he'd cost very much. Dreesen and Shiancoe would be nice low-cost options also.
Will Williams get franchised? They also have to sign Foster. Who has been healthy and was their heart and soul during the playoffs.
Williams tag number would be 22 million, with Barwin and Reed playing well, he will hit the open market, and get his money. Probably a Julius Peppers sized deal.
Oh it will take a boatload of money to get him. But Williams on one side, Wake on the other... we suddenly have the pass rush we have not had in years. Of course at the moment I dont know our cap situation so I am sort of just imagining this in terms of the possibilities. Would be cool.
Well they would have to let Soliai and Langford walk probably to get Williams. But they could switch to the 4-3. LE-Cam Wake DT-Jared Odrick DT-Randy Starks RE-Mario Williams LOLB-Kevin Burnett MLB-Draft pick, Maybe Burflict if he falls to the 2nd or Tank Carder in the 3rd. ROLB-Karlos Dansby
1. Matt Flynn 2. Carl Nicks 3. Dashon Goldson/LaRon Landry/Michael Griffin 4. Anthony Spencer/John Abraham/Mario Williams (probably will be franchised) 5. Dwayne Bowe/Robert Meachem/Mario Manningham
Bess and hartlines targets were drastically reduced this year - thus the reason for lower catches and yardage not regression - Moore was to busy force feeding the ball to marshal
I really want Dashon Goldson or Michael Griffin. I'd also love to see Chad Rinehart and Jared Gaither in Miami as well as Robert Meachem. And how can we forget Ted Ginn.... I'll let myself out.
Makes perfect sense, 2 bargain guys, one you roll the dice on, all capable of upping TD production and making the offense more productive. Orton and Bennet would be relatively cheap, Hillis, I suspect, is not going to get a whole lot of good offers. And adding him means we have a 3 headed monster at Rb if we don't draft a Qb so we are protected in case the passing game doesn't produce.
Would be great, and Williams can play OLB or DE at a high level, he adds lots of options on Defense. but the price tag? Wow.
Pierre Garcon. With Manning possibly out and a new staff coming in, he may want to leave. Could be the speedy compliment we need across from Marshall, though he has had some drop issues iirc. Pads, I like the idea of taking a shot on Hillis - we could probably use that type of tough bruising running back in the red zone, but you are really going to bring up Orton with a straight face? And Bennett is just terrible.
