http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...t-with-the-jets-i-let-me-play-do-the-talking/ Tolbert said he isn’t a big talker and therefore questions how well he’d mesh with the loudmouth Jets. “I like letting my play do the talking,” Tolbert said, via ESPN.com. “I don’t like to do a lot of talking off the field. I like to do it in between the lines. So that’s a place that I would think about but I’m not too sure that I would end up going there.” Tolbert’s take on the Jets is that they have too many players who “seek out the limelight just so they can be seen.” “If that’s their personality, if that’s the way they want to do it, that’s fine, but I’m not that type of guy,” Tolbert said.
I actually think Tolbert would compliment Bush very well. Strong back, always ends up in the endzone. Ive always been high on Tolbert
I have always liked him when he was out here with the Chargers. I believe he was only making like a little over a million a season.
Love, Love that idea. we have not had a true FB since Polite and Tolbert is practically another guard out there
I vote "yes." A good option to throw to out of the backfield too...5'9", 243 lbs and only 26, what's not to like? Other than putting the ball on the ground a bit.
This is correct, but you can work on that. I thjink his attude is just what this team can use. Stats are right here: http://www.nfl.com/player/miketolbert/2507428/profile He averaged 4.0 yards a carry behind a passing offensive line that was hurt all year.
Tolbert, Bush, and Clay on the field at the same time in certain packages...... Yup, throw me in as a yes.
I agree but wouldn't you think that Philbin is set on changing that pound it in between the tackles philosophy this season?
Every once in a while, you just gotta tighten up the straps, dig in, and root 'em out... no matter how well you pass.
Kuhn got a lot of usage in GB behind Starks and Grant. There could very well be a place for Tolbert. Bush is still available too. But I see him getting paid somewhere. Very possibly Cleveland. That would allow them to go wild in the first round by bringing in Blackmon and Weeden possibly, or Kendall Wright if they believe in McCoy. Maybe even Fleener in the second. Man. With this rookie wage scale they could really do some damage.
Especially in the playoffs. You have to be able do both well when you get there, and Tolbert can get into the end zone.
If Bush or Thomas go down Tolbert could fill in nicely. He would be an upgrade over Slaton that is for sure.
Bro he can anwful lot of things for your team. Is good running the rock and catching out of the backfield. Make good tackles on special teams as well.
Agree w/everything said. He'd be a cheaper version of Michael Bush and depending on what Bush makes, Tolbert might be a better option. I'd take Brandon Jacobs as a fallback if we miss on both of the others.
FFIC you were a fan of Burner Turner too I think? I loved Turner and still wish we had pursued him more. I agree, I think Tolbert would be a great addition - guy has a nose for the endzone and seems to make a lot of plays for a big guy. It would depend on his asking price though. If a team like the Bengals toss a pile of paper at him I don't think we could match.
I think there's like a $40 million dollar gap between what Turner made and what Tolbert will make. Tolbert is versatile, but asking for more than around 15 touches a game is asking a lot from a big dude like that.
Anything so we stop using Bush in goal line situations. He just isn't the right back for that type of scenario.
Yes bro I was. I think Mike would be a good teammate for Clay to play with and would be a great insurance policy in case of injury.
http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2011/oct/17/mathews-tolbert-record-pace/ [h=1]Mathews, Tolbert on record pace[/h] A strained calf and a concussion slowed their assault on the record book, but Chargers running backs Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert returned to practice Monday and, seemingly fully healthy, are still on track to cover more ground through the air than any running back tandem in NFL history. With a combined 492 receiving yards through five games, Mathews and Tolbert are on pace for 1,574 yards, which would be 113 more than Miami’s Terry Kirby and Keith Byars had in 1993. Mathews’ and Tolbert’s 48 receptions puts them on pace for 154, which would be four fewer than what the New York Jets’ Richie Anderson and Curtis Martin had in 2000.
If his attitude has done a turn around padre, and he isn't asking for the moon, then yes I would like him as an addition.
You can bring in Barry Sanders in his prime, if we don't have a QB we aren't going anywhere. Just ask Adrian Peterson. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you or the OP, just stating QB needs to be the focus this year. We have Bush and Thomas. I don't think it prudent to devote anymore resources there until we have the QB position settled.
It's not. But there's something called the salary cap. How much is a QB going to cost? Will there be enough to spend on a RB? Is it efficient spending to do so when you already have Bush and Thomas? How much is Hillis going to want? Is it wise to spend more money on the RB position when every major statistic tells us running production does not correlate very highly with winning? At least not compared to passing production and stopping the pass. What about TE, RT, S, etc? Are these bigger positions of need? (HINT: YES!!) These are just a few of the questions you have to ask.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/13/the-free-agent-hot-100/ The Free Agent Hot 100 46. Running back Mike Tolbert.
with the issues we had at the goaline last few years, Tolbert would be a perfect compliment to Reggie and our offense. Especially if we sign Eric winston at RT
