We all want the QB problem addressed. This FO makes a pitch for Manning the #1 available QB. Did not get him. I would not have made the trade Washington made for RG3, just my opinion. The next QB available to most would be Matt Flynn. We brought him in. Alex Smith, a first round draft pick with starter and playoff experience, who was offered a 3 year deal with SF is brought in. I think they are doing what should be done to address this position. No matter what we will have competition for the starter spot. We may not Fix the QB position but I think they are addressing it as well as they could have during this offseason, before the draft.

This all ends with us signing Matt Moore to a multi-year, doesn't it?

Correction: They might KNOW what needs to be done, but certainly aren't DOING what needs to be done. A fine line there, I think.

Calling your bluff... only because I said this a couple times in the past and it never works. When you bleed aqua and orange you can't just give up.

If we get Smith it will be more of a "bridge" to our next QB whether he comes in this years draft or next years draft. Thing is they are putting Philban in a very odd situation, they are basically telling him they would rather compete in the future and do a long, slow rebuilding process rather than trying to patch the holes and going full steam ahead. I believe that rebuilding is the correct way to go about it, but when coaches lose games they then to lose their reputation, respect, and confidence in the locker room. That is always hard to regain especially if you lose more games the following year. So if we get worse next year record-wise, like I am anticipating, it is going to be harder and harder for Philban to be our guy and turn everything around.

I've been pretty negative about this team for the last 2 years. I have no faith whatsoever that this FO will do what it takes to land us a star QB. They will never draft a QB in the first round. They will not make the necessary moves to bolster the offense. Instead they trade away the Pro Bowl MVP for a can of worms and have no plan in place to replace him. For real, if we offer a decent sized contract for Alex Smith when we have his equivalent here already, then I am DONE.

Besides, I'm a better poker player than you, so you'd lose.

    Oh Heavnen's NO!

Looked great in bringing back SF against the Saints, but then couldn't hit the side of a barn against the Giants in the NFC Championship game. Much rather roll the dice with Flynn. Has to be a power play on both Maimi's and Smith's part.

nice to see Jeff Darlington have the balls to call this clearly desperate facade for what it is: Two jilted lovers publicly wooing each other to get the attention they crave from someone else.

Philibin holds the cards in the Flynn deal, its his baby, if Philbin thinks Flynn's monetary demands are up to par with his talent and ceiling,Ireland will ink his *** in a heartbeat.

We also don't know what Philibin and Sherman thought, and think of the possibility of Smith's skillset on our roster, and between Smith and Flynn, who is the better player..

I don't want Alex Smith either but will never go as far as being done. If you are a true fan you won't either.
I love how people say they are done but they always return to moan and groan. Hang in there man.

I love how some people always have to act like that they are the better fan. If you're a fan, good for you. Some of us have seen this scenario enough times.

That's kinda reminiscent of this fanbase, year after year, HOPING that we will get a QB, hoping that we might actually use a 1st round pick on one, only to get Ted Ginned all over again.

Incompetent morons make emotional decisions instead of weighing options.... Engaging in due diligence is smart. Not reacting to fan pressure is smart, especially if you and your coaching has more doubts than confidence in Flynn.

Would you prefer Flynn in Miami just for the sake of having him and 3-4 more years of growing pains?

In all honesty, I don't care who we get, unless its been proven they won't be a franchise. Rex Grossman has proven he blows. Alex Smith has proven he blows, until last year. Now, until the GOAT became available (Manning), the 49ers were ready to lock up Smith. That says they thought he could be franchise and they actually have more on the line than we do. So, sure what the hell.

Like I said before though, regardless if they bring in Smith or Flynn I want them to draft Weeden too. Double down. QB is too important. Literally, nothing else matters.

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about Alex Smith....my initial thought is it's not a good idea. And my 49ers fan brother is currently laughing his *** off at me, but is Alex Smith better or worse than Matt Moore?
I'd say considerably better. So if for some reason they've decided against Matt Flynn, I guess this the next best option.
Or I'm trying to talk myself into liking another bad move by the FO.

Wow. We might actually agree on something. I'd liek to draft Weeden too, just don't how. #8 is way too early and I think he's probably gone any our 2nd pick.
How does it feel to agree with a chick who is the rag?:tongue2:

Alex Smith is a Franchise QB & on the rise.
make him a legitimate, competitive offer & lets see how things fall.
maybe we'll get lucky with this one
if he accepts, the dilemma is over & we move forward...

It is the only thing that makes since. SF is in the superbowl next yr with Manning at the helm(provided he is at least 80%) SF is going to be scary. I like Smith. He has had a bum deal with everything that went down in SF. He could be a very good QB with some consistency, as we saw this yr. 273 comp 445 att 61.3% 3144 yrd 17 td 5 int

Its not saying one type of fan is better than the other, its trying to be a better fan by not overreacting for the worst, immediately following you hearing news that doesn't jive with what you thought was the right thing..There is so much information that neither you or I are privy to, but you know what, it doesn't keep some folks from spoutin off at the mouth, insulting the brand based on surface level evidence, only to wind up in most cases, eating their own crap..

What some folks are trying to say is, lets let things play out, lets not vehimently criticize people, their families, and the team we all love, based on false media perception.

I don't wanna tell people how to root for their team, I just want to protect this site and this team from feeding that false perception, cause How we are perceived right now, is becoming more obvious that its based on a small portion of this fanbase that likes to hear themselves criticize without thinking and breaking down the information available.

What if Fylnns agent was asking for 5 years 60 million dollars, and wasn't budging?

What if our coach loved Alex Smith when he came out in the draft?

What if Coach Sherman and Philbin feel Ryan Tannehill has a much higher ceiling than Flynn?

What if Jeff Ireland, Philbin and Sherman collectively feel that Brandon Weeden is the next Tom Brady?

What if Philibin doesn't think that Flynn's talent isn't worth anything close to what he's asking for, so he doesn't want to commit and lose out on Tannehill and Weeden?
