1. If Blackmon drops then fine. Otherwise, drop and give me twenty (Maybe that TE out of Stanford) 2. Alshon Jeffrey, he's gonna drop, but kid is the only true dynamic player at WR that will be a true red zone threat 3. Take your shot at QB here, Tannehill just doesn't make sense to me at #8, perhaps lower in the round. Plenty of stat-busters to choose from in RD 3 3a. Better make this count Irish, another speedy offensive weapon or prepare for the cliche' "so we got blank for Brandon Marshall!" 4. Traditionally, where Ireland takes a shot at a developmental beefy lineman with promise. 5. Take another stat-buster QB...Why not? 6. Did somebody say Safety? 7. Edge rusher long shot... I'll see you hell...
Why is trading down so popular among fans here? I'll take a top 10 player over a Jared Odrick type + another 2nd round bargain bust any day of the week.
You get better value and extra picks unless you're sure about who you want (based on the 12 gamechanger player theory hoisted by Saban)...In this draft nobody really stands out after the top 5 to me. Tough to take a chance on crippling the organization (further) by botching the pick.
The thing I most want to do with my GM that has a history of botching second round picks is give him additional second round picks.
We can trade our 2nd rounders for 3rd and 5th round picks then! and then maybe ship those off for multiple 6th and 7th round picks and go gem hunting.
Kind of a moneyball/outside-the-box technique, I like it and it's the only area Ireland really shines anyway...
I don't understand you guys. You claim there's only a small amount of people in draft that are impact. You claim our GM can't draft game changing talent. Your solution to those two things? Trade down to lessen your chance of grabbing an impact player because you're shrinking the pool of players to choose from all to give the GM you don't trust more picks to botch. I believe that allows me to call into question all of your thoughts and assumptions about the team, the players, the coach and gm.
what if the browns pass on tanny and we trade down with a shot to get him still? if not we grab weeden or the BPA?
I use the 12 gamechangers per draft (Saban) to sort of guide me. Where are the freaks of nature? The Giants got Pierre-Paul at #16! This draft is either mediocre or fantastically level as far as talent...People are hyping the hell out of Richardson (Who is a talented grinder). Even if Irish wants to keep pouring cement on the line, Reiff doesn't exactly jump out at you. I also favor quarterbacks and offensive playmakers due to the rules...I also believe the only thing that you should call into question is your sexual preference (heyoooo!)
Tannehill is fool's gold. Mallet looked better last year and he went in the third. If Rafael is right and there's some sort of fraternal bonds clouding they're judgement, then prepare for the cactus dildo. I'd take a chance on the kid out of Boise St. in the later rounds if you're thinking vanilla with Weeden.
Hmmm...Now that I think about it, we could probably use the cumulative value of all of our draft picks and trade for half of the 6th round or maybe over three quarters of it. With all of those 6th round picks we could dominate the 6th round and have plenty of chances to get a Gem there. Maybe there will even be a 6th round quarterback in there we could grab with no pressure and very low expectations.....? No?
I'm holding open tryouts as we speak...So far I've picked up 2 homeless people under the bridge, Tyrone and Sheila. Tyrone is in the lead, mostly because Sheila is at least 60 and on account of Tyrone plowing her like he was a sharecropper..........Deuces
There is a difference last year there was a bigger depth at the qb position, so Mallett was able to last until the 3rd. If he was here this year he may not pass the first round
Can I ask... do you think Christian Ponder, Jake Locker, Andy Dalton and Colin Kapernick are better quarterback prospects than Ryan Mallet? How many of them are better prospects than Brandon Weeden? What about Ryan Tannehill?
Not a huge Tannenhill fan but if we draft him I will be more than happy to believe Philbin knows what to look for in a QB. It's not just Ireland no matter how much people way want to believe that.
My top 4 picks (based on how things are shaking out in the Club Level Mock Draft) barring any trade downs/ups would be DE Coples (1st), RT Massie (2nd), WR Sanu, WR Quick (3rd round). Then I'd probably look at CB/Safety in the 4th to finish off all the glaring holes and finish off with a mix of OL/DB and Linebacker depth in 5th/6th/7th. Yes I know that avoids QB but I don't buy into Tannehill/Weeden. I'll give Moore 1 year in a WCO to see what he can do with all the new weapons and if it doesn't work out....go in very hard for a QB next year. I also know someone will scream TE but that's Fasano/Clay. Pretty sure at this point Clay is the #2 TE with the team searching for a more traditional FB the past couple weeks.
I think only Locker of that group is better then Mallett will be. Those were my two favorite QB's last year with Ponder 3rd. I like all three of those guys more then Weeden who I think is severely overrated as I mentioned in another thread. I think Tannehill is on par with Locker but more polished as a passer. The guy had over 60 dropped passes (more then 10%) this year alone. As for how my ideal mock shakes out: 8: Ryan Tannehill (Coples is the pick if Tannehill is gone...if both are gone, move down imo) 42: Alshon Jeffery 73: Marvin Jones (or Chris Givens...two best route runners in this draft.) 74: George Iloka FS 103: Cyrus Gray RB, Texas AM (continuity and knows the offense) 145: Tony Bergstrom OT Utah 196: Chase Ford TE, Miami 215: Cliff Harris CB Oregon
I like that Harris pick, if that kid can get his sh&$ together, he can ball..my ideal is much different then yours.
Yeah ideally Id love Harris or Owusu with that 7th rounder. I do feel Cb is a more pressing need then many believe because Im still not sold on Sean Smith or Nolan Carroll. That leaves us with marshall and vontae and possibily Jimmy wilson depending on where this staff thinks he belongs. I like my mock though
I was skeptical because I thought too many fans were becoming enamored with his ability to truck people in college...If Tannehill is Locker with better accuracy then I'll get on board.
Tannehill is like Locker with much better accuracy, but speed closer to 4.6 than Locker's 4.5. I don't even see Tannehill as that raw. He just struggles with anticipating the play in the middle of the field. He sometimes waits to see those guys break open. He's fine with his anticipation on the edges. And he does a nice job of going through his progressions and even looking off defenders. Those middle of the field passes is what got him in trouble. That was actually the same criticism Rodgers faced coming out. ( That and they were both criticized for struggling on deep throws). I see that as one of those areas that is fixed with experience. That is why Rodgers improved.
Rodgers was so good at the dink and dunk and reading the defense at Cal. Leinhardt vs. Rodgers reminds me a lot of Luck vs. Barkley in the Pac 12. But I've got conflicting information on Tannehill, and my gut says no way... I am sold on my choice of draft day theme songs however,
Rodgers didn't really dink and dunk that much in college. He had a pretty high YPA and his completion percentage was about the same as Tannehill's. He tended to attack the mid-depth sidelines as I recall rather than the flats and the short middle. And I like the song although I'm not one of those that believes the draft is just a crap shoot.
They also did some work with Rodgers' mechanics, which I think they'll need to do with Tannehill should they draft him.
Yeah, like all Tedford QBs, Rodgers was criticized for appearing mechanical. Tannehill really doesn't have that flaw. In that way Tannehill is less raw than Rodgers was coming out. I really see their skill sets as remarkably similar. They even have some of the same flaws. I just don't see it as likely that GB is feeling they made a mistake by using a first round pick on a player that didn't provide immediate impact.
