Well you see he was obviously show boating and doing a split in the middle of his attempt. Over/under he never gets another attempt?
Ellsbury possibly out 6 to 8 weeks. Now would be a good time for Carl Crawford to ride into town to save the team.
Had to add this. You always hear "A good throw there gets him" on that stolen base even a BAD throw gets him fortunately the catcher went beyond bad and went with "terrible"
OFer Che-Hsuan Lin is going to be called up from Triple A for today's game. He is excellent defensively but has a pretty weak bat. He'll be strictly a defensive replacement.
With Crawford's own setback recently, the race may still be to see if Ellsbury returns before Crawford.....!
I'd be shocked, Crawford just has a sore elbow. Word is he going to start playing in games next week.
gosh damn, Hellickson's command has been awful today. how do you leave a cutter up and in the middle of the plate to Ortiz with a guy on and Cody Ross on deck.
Upon further review of this.....Shoppach also slams his face into the ground at the end too....hahahahahah Remy and Ursillo must have been dying laughing in the NESN telecast...
Hey back to back Red Sox wins for the first time since last August. A truly amazing yet pathetic FYI.
They were......what was also so funny, is during yesterday's game they were seeking "Answers" as to why Shoppach began the slide so early...... the best one I heard: "Shoppach is a finely tuned athlete with years of muscle memory, and per the stat books he slides so early because obviously his last steal attempt was back in Little League!!!!" That's hysterical...muscle memory!
Oh I'm sure Youk will forgive him and they will kiss and make up no problem at all..... Pretty strange of Valentine to say, but you know what he's probably right. Still I'm not sure why he'd say that out loud to the media unless he thinks it could possibly motivate him. But still the team is starting to click why say something that could have a negative effect?
This is what I have never understood about a guy like Valentine...its his MO.....he was hired following a media-storm surrounding Theo & Francona....so why does he continue to create his own media storm by public statements like this, and then watch as Youk gets pestered with questions prior to very EARLY patriots day game, etc. Its stupid managing, and stupid fireworks (maybe Bobby V is just as dumb as we think he is...). This clearly wasnt a smart public thing to say...its not a light a fire type comment, its an alienate type comment.
I don't disagree with anything you've posted. Plus he seems to have pissed off at least Youkilis and Pedroia (Pedroia was quoted this morning as saying "That's not what we do around here"). It will be interesting to see how the team responds to this. Obviously IF they lose today no matter what people are going to point to Valentine's comments but I'm looking more long term. Of course it's going to be a story that Youkilis isn't playing today (although his career numbers are weak vs. Shields). It just seems that the timing of Valentine's comments and the fact that Valentine doesn't seem to have a filter from his brain to his mouth that's going to be a problem. Between this and his random comments about the Yankees during ST, it just seems like he wants to read about himself in the paper. Then again on the flip side maybe this is what this team needs, some tough love like Steinberner used to do with calling out his players/coaches/managers. Obviously babying them like Francona did (I miss him) didn't work last year.
Yup, there's two people on the Red Sox that you cannot cross in the fans eyes right now and it's Pedroia and Ortiz. You piss off one of those guys and you're in trouble.
Never understood the Bobby V hiring. This just blows my mind. Even though I hate them with all my heart, I feel myself backing Youk and Pedroia here because Bobby is a douche and is showing it.
Bring back Francona. I know it's early in the year but so far Valentine hasn't really impressed me much with his moves, especially with the pen management. Leaving Bard out there for as long as he did was truly a Grady Little moment. Good for the Sox fans to cheer Bard as he left and then boo Valentine as he was walking back to the dugout. I have a feeling the Bobby V Era isn't going to last very long.
Bard showed some good stuff today. Hes just got to get the ball over the plate more. He has the stuff to leave it there.
Yup, he just got tried out in the 7th. He should have been removed 2 batters before he was. I think a lot has to do with both Morales and Aceves pitching 2 days in a row and Valentine's almost zero faith in Melancon for some reason.
***secretly starting "the official keep Bobby V. - no justice no peace - Fan Club" to make sure Beantown never lets him go ***
I HATE UMPIRES AND THESE CRAP STRIKE ZONES!!!!! AGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! replace them with PitchFX info immediately! Rodney vs Ross (Bot 9th 2outs - men on 1st & 2nd in 1-0 ballgame) - Umpire Larry Vanover (graph displayed from the perspective of the ump) that is atrocious and he should be fined by MLB league office and put on notice. Where the F is questec system in outing these horrible umps.
with technology as fast as we have it today....all you need is a buzzer on home plate ump (shock him if strike) connected to PitchFX info....I am serious, take this out of there control, the day has come! I want them shocked if strike (and I want the diodes connected to the back of their necks)....I am happy to let them make the out and safe calls at all the bases, etc (but instant replay should be there to override the wrong call on those too). If humans dont like it...fine by me, go robots! Just get the rules right!
I was never in favor of instant replay (except on home run calls) or having a robot call balls/strikes but I think not is the time for it. There are just too many missed or blown calls and the quality of umps aren't there anymore nor is there any penalties for umps being wrong or look for ways to get too involved in the game by trying to pick fights or bate players/managers/coaches. Robot umps are the future.
Bobby V needs to shut the **** up. I am so glad he is not my manager http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-b...ilis-dedication-dustin-pedroia-135329491.html
Sox host Yanks on 1912 "throwback" friday: P.S. hope all players where the pants correctly and properly show the stockings of old.....love that look!
Here's some good Red Sox news: Their 1st round draft pick RHP Matt Barnes is completely dominating A ball right now. In 3 starts here are his numbers: 16 IP, 25 Ks, 2 BB, 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP, .111 BAA It's time he moves on.
Sally League (Carolina League), it's the Sox mid-A level club. He's obviously too advanced for the league. The next step is most likely Salem High A which will probably happen by mid-May if not sooner. I think it's possible for him to finish in Double A by year's end, especially considering the Red Sox aren't shy about pushing their top prospects to more advanced leagues even at young ages.
They showed it last night on YES...very cool looking....they are also changing their names to the Highlanders for the day too..... Althou something tells me those unis arent made of wool.....
They should ship him out of the country. He's been just awful and that's not even a fair word to describe how bad he's been so far this year. I actually don't mind the move putting Youkilis in the 6th spot right now. He looks lost at the plate, his timing is off, he's chasing pitches he'd normally take. He needs to relax a bit.
