Not at all harsh to me. I would be a happy fan if Ireland drafts Tannehill and he consistantly beats good teams. But I'm not in the linch mob if he passes him.

Not all questionable decisions are equal.

Regarding fundamentals, from the arm down to his feet.

I think it's a very big problem then if Ireland and company think he's the 40th or 80th best player.

Not that I'm an expert, but many experts we do hear from have Tannenhill as a top 25 prospect. Guys like McShay, Kiper, Mayock, Polian, Cosell, etc. And just from what I've deduced from watching him, is that he's a much better prospect that Blaine Gabbert, Christain Ponder, and Ryan Mallett, the ladder two going top 10 last year.

Basically, if we pass on him and we get the excuse that they didn't have him rated high enough to take at #8 or he wasn't good value at #8, then I'll be very disappointed

I dont really see an issue with his feet. I do agree that not all questionable decisions are equal but I dont think his decision making is at all subpar.

This is really my entire point. You can't say its a big problem until you see how these guys play.

I agree with your opinion, and the consensus opinion. But I just don't think its fair to project that on to someone else.

But why is that unfair? Was it unfair to be upset Wanny took Moore or Fletcher when it happened?

Sure, you can be upset. I'll be upset if we don't take Tannehill at 8, not because I think Jeff Ireland doesn't value the QB position necessarily, but because it doesn't mean there is a QB coming on the team, for whatever reason. I won't evaluate Ireland's decision until I actually see the QBs play. If Ireland takes Tannehill at 8, and he busts, while a QB picked after him succeeds, I'll say Ireland did a poor job with evaluating the talent.

I understand where you're coming from. And in 2016 we'll have the luxury of hindsight to properly evaluate Jeff Ireland with respect to Mallet, Locker, Ponder, Tannenhill, even Matt Ryan. But right now all we have to go by is the fact that we're not taking chances on these guys and the alternative 1st round picks and backup caliber QBs have been guiding our teams to below .500 seasons

But my point is for example: The Godfather is an awesome movie. Movie Experts think the Godfather is a great movie. If you(in general) think the Godfather is not even a good movie, then there may be something wrong with the way you're evaluating movies.

If from everything and everyone we've heard is evaluating Ryan Tannenhil as a top 25 prospect, and Ireland is not then there is a problem. And if he is evaluating Ryan Tannenhil as a top 25 prospect but between 15-25 and feels that at #8 is bad value, then again there is a problem (this time with the lack of emphasis/priority put on the QB position).

But saying The Godfather is an awesome movie isn't anything that can be tangibly verified. Its just a subjective opinion without the luxury of any objective data to support it.

But really I agree with everything you said, aside from the bolded. I don't see how Ireland disagreeing with consensus opinion is a problem in itself. It can be a problem, but thats if his evaluation is wrong. If his evaluation is right, then its a good thing. For all we know, Ireland has been sitting in the draft room, calling every QB as they've exactly turned out. We don't know. All I can base my evaluation of Ireland's ability on is which QBs he's acquired in comparison to who he passed on.

The reality is that the person who makes the decisions regarding Ireland's job does know exactly what Ireland is thinking. He knows where Ireland is rating all these QBs. He knows why Ireland will draft who he does, and why he passes on who he does.

But that is your opinion of where he should place emphasis ?? And I think that most of the draftniks and gurus have Tanny in that 15-25 range, not above that, but based on our perceived needs, they project Tanny to #8. If Tanny turns into Quinn, what would you think then ?? Was Speilman that far off in 2007, because EVERY draftnik, expert, guru and fan had Quinn going to us at #9...is Speilman and Cam-Cam suddenly the bees-knees in GM/Coach combos ??

Are we much worse off now than had we taken the risk on Brady Quinn? I certainly don't think so. We've still failed to make the playoffs the past 3 years finishing below .500. We'd still be in the same boat. Searching for another QB. But at least we would've taken a chance. Heck, if we drafted Quinn we wouldn't have wasted 3 2nd round picks on Beck, Henne, and White and may have a couple more good players on our team.

IMO, passing on Tannenhill and Weeden this year will be just as much of a risk as taking one of them. I don't believe we're bad enough to finish with a top 5 or even top 8 pick, especially with our relatively easy schedule. So next year we'll be in the same situation. Out of Barkley range. Landry Jones will be just as much of a risk as Tannenhill or Weeden and IMO, more of a risk because of his lack of ability under pressure. Now you're stuck giving a decent sized contract to Matt Moore or Garrard because they'll have to be the starter in 2013 too.

If Tannenhil busts, then it is what it is. Back to the drawing board. But I'm fairly confident that drafting a stud DE, DT, or OL will not turn this team into a playoff contender by 2013 or 2014 with Matt Moore or David Garrard playing QB.

This is as good a time as any to take a chance. You've got a coach that has successfully developed QBs and OLs not comprised of 1st round picks. You have the guy's former HC as your OC. And you've basically let it be known that you're rebuilding. And you have a prospect who has exceptional tools to work with right there for the taking. DO IT!!!!

In hindsight, this is true. On the other hand, what if Luck or RG III didn't turn out? Should the Colts or Skins be hammered when nearly every human has those two as 1-2 - the two most valuable players entering the draft.

The franchise shouldn't just take a QB - but no doubt, if they pass on Tannehill and Weeden - and one of them turns out to be good; they will be and should be forever hammered if they don't somehow find another QB.

As far as fans are concerned, I think there will be a lot of disappointment on this board (with some happiness) after the draft and I don't think Miami will take RT.
And, it's true there is no way to judge a draft at this point; but, this is what being a fan is all about - looking at players you like and hoping your team gets them. And, then criticizing / praising their team.

I want to fire Ireland regardless, and have wanted to for a couple years now. Only thing that would change my stance is if Tannehill shows much as a rookie.
