http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/06/25/karlos-dansby-thinks-dolphins-defense-can-be-great/ "Karlos Dansby’s optimism is not going away. A month ago Dansby, the Dolphins’ outside linebacker, said that he thinks the Dolphins are going to the Super Bowl. Now he’s saying that the Dolphins are ready for greatness on defense. “We’ve got a chance to be great,” Dansby told the Sun Sentinel. “We have a chance to be great in this defense. We have enough skill set. We have enough talent. We can make this defense work for us.” Dansby said the biggest concern he has is that his teammates need to keep working during the time off before training camp. “You can’t take a long break,” Dansby said. “You’ve got to be able to stay conditioned. You have to be able to stay in shape right now. The way we’re moving right now is the way we’re going to be moving at camp.”.. I love the quote about not taking a long break, seems like he has learned a valuable lesson.. I appreciate this dude being our leader, and not only believing in his teammates, but expressing his thoughts no matter the outlet, this will make his teammates think twice, work hard during their time off, and set expectations from the leader of the team.Ive said before, he has unique makeup and excellent natural leadership ability, all he needed to do was understand the training part of the equation, and it seems like he has, so to me, I like the move. Now I know some are gonna just say that he's just talkin again, but I really think the man has gotten the point, has done something about it, has the talent and leadership to back it up, and believes in his defense..I can't lie, it does get me a bit hyped..I too think this defense has a pretty good chance to reach another level of play.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-miami-dolphins-0625-20120624,0,4368931.story This is whole story that PFT got this snippet from Dansby. 6th in points allowed, 3rd in rushing yards allowed per game in the NFL, I think they have the right to think they can be better, even great..
Atlleast Dansby is trying to earn that big contract OFF the field, because ON it?? He has been very average.
I think you could hope for Dansby to have a few more flashy plays, but he's pretty much what should have been expected all along, and I don't think he's a disappointment. Dansby is good at everything, but not a master at anything besides maybe coverage. I think he could be better used if he was paired up with a true sidelines to sidelines tackle machine, which would let you get a little bit more aggressive with him. Burnett was a sound acquisition at the end of the day, and the reasoning was correct in my eyes, but I think a guy like even a lower rung tackle machine like Pat Angerer or D'Qwell Jackson would have worked well.
I have no problem with what he said. Just pointing out that it means about as much as when he or someone else probably said the exact same thing last year.
Dansby is not a trash talker, but his mouth consistantly writes checks his !@#$ can't cash: believe it when I see it.
The reason I don't mind Karlos Dansby talking is because I think he's shown that his own talk motivates him to go out there and perform. Some players do that on purpose, they talk big and then when they get out there on the field, that puts that much more pressure on them to perform to live up to their own talk, and they like that pressure. I've never had the same disdain for the Rex Ryan/Jets way of doing things that other folks have had. What I did mind, and still do mind, is him coming in 26 lbs overweight and then still winning the team leadership award.
Karlos Dansby $11,325,000 16 games...103 tackles,2 sacks,1 interception,1 forced fumble Mason Foster $550,000 16 games...84 tackles,2 sacks,1 interception,1 forced fumble So a rookie has almost the same stats as Dansby but makes $10,775,000 less per season Maybe Dansby should just shut up
I dont think those players are comparable. A player could have no sacks or interceptions and still be much better in coverage and blitzing than a player with several.
I'm glad he said it, and I think with the type of person that he is, we will get much better effort and production from him and the team, then if he didn't. What the hell is goin on around here, the guy is proud of his defense and thinks they can be great..He's not saying anything inappropriate or with a lack of humility..
DJ, there's nothing wrong with what he said. But you take these quotes from players and coaches that we've heard over and over again and you make them out to mean something more than what they really are. Karlos Dansby saying the defense can be great is no different than a salesman telling you the product he's selling is the best. Of course that's what he's going to say. He's very biased. Whether it's true or not we won't know until the season starts. Players said the same thing last year and they looked like a monkey ****ing a football against the first 7 games of the season. I'm sorry to piss on your parade. I should just keep my mouth shut and let you be jazzed up about it. Nothing wrong with having a positive outlook. Sometimes I just can't resist.
Did he say there was a chance he will show up in shape and not winded in the 1st half of the 1st game and totally gassed by 2nd half????
Dansby had a big mouth when he played in AZ also. I live there, used to have to read all the crap. Problem is his mouth only usually runs prior to camp and in camp. Once the season starts you do not see too much of Dansby and he is usually quiet. Talk is cheap Karlos. Only thing that bothered me when we brought him here was the contract they gave him. Stupid dumb. AZ did not even think twice about letting him go because no way in hell were they paying that kind of money for Karlos Dansby. Between his contract money and what we gave Marshal is insane. Our GM should have been dragged out and shot over just those two dumb *** huge money pickups. Like I said, Dansby is by no means a bad player but he by no means is a player worthy of the contract he got. Ask the teams in the NFC West, they been running over his face since he came into the league.
I know I get excited blitz , but it's not just blind faith, I'm coming from a position of evaluating him, his progression since he's been in our uniform, every interview he's done for us, my own analysis of his game, and work ethic, realizing the potential he has as a leader, and seeing how he's going about reaching that potential, then when I see certain mannerisms, and it confirms what I thought, I let you know.. I will make a bet with anyone about this player..I will bet that he will have his best year as a pro..and that has nothing to do with him just saying it, and everything to do with his evolution as a dolphin and football player..
Started reading and I thought this thread was about Channing Crowder there for a second. No wait,he talked crap all the time an NEVER,EVER backed it up.
Why does Dansby get **** on because he's the only one who actually admitted to having lock-out conditioning issues? It was way more than just Dansby with that issue.
I will take that bet with no problem whatsoever. Dansby will have the same year he has had since he came into the league. Nice play here and there, like any other pro but outside of those few times ? Pedestrian and no better then most players that play his position.
I have some reasons that I have seen, where I believe this year will be different, just a good friendly sir?
Sure, they all should be covered by that statement...as far as Dansby, if you want to lead, lead, but be ready to be identified as the leader for the lack of leadership too!
Dominating mediocre teams once November rolls around is nothing to hang your hat on. No one is tougher than us when we're out of playoff contention. Hopefully we can don't when it counts for once. Sent from my iPhone
Of course. I would venture to add in a hot dog and a beer if we ever meet at a game, deal ? I have seen/read Dansbys act since he has been in the league. I live in AZ and hate the Cardinals but due to the fact they are the hometown team and I love reading sports, I have read his rah rah stuff for years. Thats what I am going by plus IMO, he was stupidly overpaid.
That's a win win right there. Well I have to buy my friend a nice cold beer so I might as well get one to.
Make it two and you got a deal?.. The thing that people always get twisted with me, if I do say so myself, is they lose sight that I'm coming from a place of evaluation on good reason, and just think I'm rah rah...
