Looks like something a team from the old USFL would have worn.

Not really. Maybe a little like the Jacksonville Bulls. USFL had some nice classy logos.

if you use the early NFL as a baseline (giving teams a few years to settle in), the Giants, Vikings, and Jets look like old..... and the Bengals haven't changed drastically from their first true uniform design rather than the one Paul Brown threw together to mock the Cleveland Browns. I don't notice a change in the Titans.

their helmet resembles the their old NFL helmet to me.
If you're talking about changing back to the true original, then I agree---- it's not overkill.
and sometimes they change back close to the original b/c people realize it was a mistake to change it in the first place.
this statement doesn't even pertain to anything. If said with a Corky accent, it actually sounds a little funny though, no offense directed at your (or Corky).
Have you not listened to FinaciousD? His mention of players risking injury for the sport and its tradition make it seem pretty serious, and this team wouldn't be worth a billion dollars if it weren't serious. People wouldn't spend thousands on their team, pay a ton of money for Sunday Ticket, need anger management class the monday following an ugly loss to the Jets, or throw a temper tantrum when Jason Taylor decides to play for them. 10% of marriages wouldn't end in divorce b/c the husband chooses football over the wife. Just sayin.

Who cares whether teams have changed the logo or not? There is no reason to believe an old or new logo would be inherently better. If you believe that an old logo is inherently better than you are clearly just resistant to change.

What's wrong with going back to original look for now (since we've spent more time going away from original than actually in the original) and then in 50 years or so we can go in that new fun direction when I'm dead?

With all due respect, I know what I am and it's clearly not resistant to change.

Question: Do you root for another team when you don't like how Miami is playing?

Sorry man but I don't buy that for one second! I deal with changes every single week. On a much larger scale than a logo. Some I love. Some I hate. Some I'm looking forward to and some I'm not. Some that I have to be involvled with making and some that are forced upon me.

I absolutely love the oid logo BUT think it could be filled in with Aqua better but what I like most about it, is the ring of fire. So that's a willingness for change right there. As for the possible change to something similar to the logo of Dolphins stadium. That's discusting to me. I'd much rather have it look more realistic. Even the current "cartoonsish" look, looks more real..

So, I thought it would be interesting to see if I could incorporate everything into a new logo.

Here's the rules I came up with, after reading everyone's wants and opinions:
    - No cartoony look- removed the face & helmet altogether
    - Traditional- used the sunburst and dolphin shape from an early logo and included our inception date
    - New aqua- gradient with other aqua
    - Old aqua- gradient with other aqua
    - New orange- gradient with other orange
    - Old orange- gradient with other orange
    - Navy- used the navy in a minor part
    - Aggressive- turned dolphin more forward so its moving forward and not jumping in the air happy
    - Modern- silhouettes and simple

Now I'm not saying I love the result or anything, like I said i just thought it would be interesting to see what would happen if you tried to please as many as possible. This was an experiment, nothing more.

No, I've been a diehard since about the age of five. And during all that time I knew the helmet on the dolphin was silly. You keep trying to imply that understanding that the logo is silly somehow makes me less of a fan. I don't agree. I can (and in fact, pride myself on) looking at things objectively. For example Marino is my favorite player, but I can recognize that he struggled with his post-snap reads. I realize he wasn't perfect.

You're saying that your love for the team is essentially unconditional, yes?

I'm not implying that at all, Rafael. TBH, you were implying that b/c I like tradition I must be resistant to and fearful of change, which is not the case at all.

I've been a fan my whole life. I've never stopped rooting for them or watching them. I was here posting during the 1-15 season and my posts during that time were focused on how to improve or what I felt should be the plan going forward. So I would say it's pretty much unconditional. That, however, has nothing to do with the logo. I have a ton of Miami gear that I wear regularly, but I still believe it is ridiculous to have a helmet on the dolphin.

As for your focus on tradition, your arguments against change tend to assume that the new logo will be worse despite the fact that there is no new logo yet. Why do you assume it will be something you don't like without having ever seen it?

To you it may be ridiculous. Just as you view the team unconditionally, I view the original logo unconditionally. IMO, imperfections are sometimes what makes something seem almost perfect, and sometimes it's the imperfections that provide the most character. That's how I feel about the fictional helmet on the Flipper. I wish it were better fitted to his head and had earholes, but that's as far as I, myself, would go.

I'm sorry if that assumption came across. It's not about me liking or not liking a new logo; it's about me simply preferring to see the original logo on the helmet, even if a new design happens to look better. If we were an expansion team, then yes, I'd simply want the one I liked the best.

I just look at as, if the original logo was good enough for Csonka, Griese, Warfield, etc to wear, then it's good enough for me, and I'd rather have that on the helmet than a logo those guys never wore.

Rafael, I'd like to add something.
You mentioned how people fear change, and in certain regards that's correct; however, as life itself goes, humans relish change.

For instance: women change their hair all the time; the style of clothing fashion changes constantly; some of us are always tinkering with the interior design of our homes; we trade in our old cars before they're paid off; we readily swap out our old technology for new; we go to different restaurants & eat different foods, and travel around the world to see different cultures; we'll change the type of music we listen to, and when we grow tired of one TV show we change to another; hip, thriving nightclubs & hot spots inexplicably become lifeless as our need for change and reinvigorated stimulation take us elsewhere; we even grow tired of the people we date even though weeks or months before we told our friends & ourself that "this is the one"; heck, many of us would date a different person a week if we could live that lifestyle; there's always some type of new trend, and trend = change. In general, all that humans do is look for things to change. Beer & wine aficionados will find their favorite wine or beer on the planet, and what will they do soon thereafter?---- we'll buy a different one. We'll perfect a culinary recipe, and the following week we'll change it.

So for me, amidst all this change, it'd be nice to have something remain constant, something that could be kept as tradition, something that would be as identifiable 50 years from now as it was 40 years ago.

IMO, once you get started down the path of change, there really is no stopping it. It'd be like having a Corvette as the logo 59 years ago. If 59 years later [2012] the team decides to stay with the times and give the logo a modern makeover to resemble the new Vette, then in a few years that logo will become outdated b/c a 2012 Vette won't stand the test of time on its own merit. So 8 years from now it's tweaked to look like the 2020 Vette. Soon that becomes outdated, so it's tweaked again, and again, and before you know it the original, classic Vette that started it all isn't recognizable any more.

I'd like the original logo for the same reason I'd prefer a '53 Vette over a new one----- b/c its original nature makes it timeless, which any modern design is not.

My concern is that the logo thats introduced, won't be decided upon by popular opinion, but rather corporate approval. For that reason, I'm dreading change before even seeing it.
I think the most any purist can hope to expect, would be a logo re-incorporating some of the original aspects, but far be it from any backward transition to a storied past.
The die is cast, and history suggests its a departure from vintage character, toward simply less.

If i had the opportunity to choose the new uniforms, i absolutely would go back to the old uniforms with the flat colors and not 3D numbers, however, i would change the design of the dolphin from the logo. I would like a dolphin using the kind of design of the panther of the Carolina Panters obviously in aqua.

Why is that strange? Team is going through a transition and image makeover. Hell, the whole organization is. Hard knocks has nothing to do with colors, logos, and uniforms. But it has everything to do with perception and promotion. New logo and uniforms is the next logical step. Stadium changes come after that. Hopefully on the field changes before all of that.

But it isn't strange at all. Far from it.

Mike dee interview up at the site.

Will not be making drastic changes..

Is working with Nike and the Nfl about subtle changes..

Will do something that incorporates our history and tradition.

Is looking for fans to give their opinion on whether or not we like the current dolphin and it's expression or the more old school one..

Is in the 7 th inning of the decision.

Has til November to make a decision..

Is working with season ticket holders on the pulse of what the fans want.

Philbin was the most enthusiastic about our history amongst all the coaching candidates.

Color scheme will stay the same.

In a recent poll done by Jess agler, it's split 3 ways for keeping it the same, go back to the old school, or have a new modern look...couple hundred people polled.

Will be giving out old school design baseball hats of the 72 champs at the first home game against the raiders..They said their really really cool.

Sounded adamant that we are taking into account the look of the old school look

“We’re not talking about changing colors or taking the sun off the helmet. It’s not going to be like when Tampa Bay changed from orange to pewter gray,” Dee said. “It’s definitely keeping one eye on what’s traditional in the logo intact, while keeping one eye on a 21st century version of that.”

People fear change. It's what people complain about all the time. I saw the new Spiderman and felt it was better than the one with Maquire. If you read the reviews most feel it was better. But if you read the complaints, almost everyone is complaining that a reboot wasn't needed. Nothing to do with the actual quality, they just don't want the change. Some people just want to hold on to their traditions.

That's a trick question considering we diverted away from tradition 24 years ago.
We've actually spent more time away from tradition than in it.

To humor you though and answer your question:
Miami went to 5 SBs prior to phasing out the traditional uniform in 1988 [using 3 color numbers, adding the logo to the sleeves, and moving the sleeve numbers onto the shoulders] and then finishing the job in '97 [when we added dark navy as a color, incorporated 3D numbers, turned the dolphin into a cartoon character, added an aqua stripe around the collar of our white uni's while removing the striping from its sleeve], and in between we added aqua pants in '89 and orange jerseys in '03.

So, a more accurate question would be: When is the last time change diverting away from tradition has gotten us anywhere?

With a traditional uniform: 14 postseason wins in 22 years
Without in a traditional uniform: 6 postseason wins in 24 years

Changes have already happened, and they've been a dead end, but for some reason your answer is even bigger change? Sorry, but I'm not understanding the logic behind that.

If people didn't love certain aspects of change, Hollywood wouldn't have risked hundreds of millions on remaking Spiderman twice in a short period of time.
