Let's say in the last 10 years. How many rookie QBs started from the get go? I don't feel like looking it up, and I know some of you guys know this. Who were they? Did Stafford start from day one?
Julio Buckley will begin his HOF career in 2012. Clearly the best in his organization, and perhaps the league. This kid is the real deal.
1st rounders since 1980. (I think this is correct) Newton Bradford Stafford Sanchez Ryan Flacco Boller Carr Manning Leaf Bledsoe Mirer George Aikman Elway Not sure what 2nd rounders outside of Opie.
Yeah. He started the first two games and either got injured or turned back into a pumpkin, I forget which.
Because its an incomplete list. Looks like he went off guys he remembers. We tend to remember QBs who played awhile, ie succeeded. He's missing the failures like Heath Shuler and others. Tim Couch also comes to mind. Plenty of first round QBs start and fail. Disregard the list until it's actually complete and accurate, or you'll draw wrong conclusions.
little silly to discount QBs who started week 2 or 3 their rookie season. e.g. I believe Tim Couch started week 2, he should be on this list.
Pro Football Reference is a pretty good avenue for this. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/psl_finder.cgi I don't think you can explicitly search for rookie quarterbacks starting the first game of the season, but you can search for rookies who started all 16 games http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/psl_finder.cgi?request=1&match=single&year_min=1920&year_max=2012&season_start=1&season_end=1&age_min=0&age_max=99&draft_round_min=0&draft_round_max=99&league_id=&team_id=&is_active=&is_hof=&pos_is_qb=Y&c1stat=&c1comp=gt&c1val=&c2stat=gs&c2comp=gt&c2val=16&c3stat=&c3comp=gt&c3val=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=pass_rating There's 10 rookie quarterbacks who started all 16 games. What's interesting is that 5 of those guys have been drafted since 2008. There are of course other guys who started week 1 but didn't play 16 games, like Mark Sanchez, but it's a bit difficult to catch without going through a case by case basis and I don't know that the original poster has the strength to read that far.
