Dude you can't prove accuracy or inaccuracy of that kind of statement. God, if you can you should be a nobel laureate in sociological empiricism.

Sometimes I think you are the Ryan Tannehill of ThePhins.com. There is no space so small that his arm can't fit the ball in there for a TD, and there is no argument so impossible you can't win it.

So it's like a parent laying down the law with a child and the kid being upset, but needing the lesson? (Obviously they aren't kids, but it's a parenting analogy)

The guy who busts his *** on the field and in the weightroom while not *****ing about his contract or anything else seems like an ideal fit to me.

The best player on our defense and probably our team so why not?

Beats the **** out of the guy who wants to second guess our moves publicly after he's done little here after we made him the highest paid MLB in the league, iirc.

A leader wouldn't show up last season 25lbs overweight.

Please stop giving us the context of how it was said. I had my pitchfork sharpened and ready to burst the practice bubble.

As to Dansby disagreeing with the decision it really is no issue. He supported the decision of the organization, he put the organizations decision ahead of his personal feelings. That doesn't mean he doesn't have an opinion on the matter. And if you don't want him speaking about it expect a media blackout and then you'll be whining about that. Frankly he can have any opinion he wants as long as he plays and produces on the field and it does not affect the team.

Saying you personally disagree with a decision while noting that it's not your place to make the decision and even noting several times that they have more information than you, is not questioning authority. Sorry, but I don't need any Nobel prizes to know that.

You sure can, but there is no correlation is all I am saying. I said he has the swag to be the leader, you said he doesn't play well enough to carry the swag. The two are completely different in my opinion. He can be the best leader out there and be underwhelming in games. Leaders inspire and motivate, and although it is easier being the best player on the field, it isn't a prerequisite of a leader.

Ideally speaking, it is a different story.

No its not. You can say you don't agree with something, but you still believe that Philbin is the person who ultimately makes the call. He acquiesced Philbin's authority in this case.

It can absolutely be seen as questioning authority very mildly, but then qualifying it.

Honestly, only VERY strict (or insecure) authority figures would probably have a concern with it. But in a true dictatorship of fascism, yeah, any criticism at ALL of the authority figure would have repercussions. now you may disagree with the threshold of what you consider SIGNIFICANT questionoing of authority, but that is relative and subjective. you're threshold is different than, say, Kim Jong Il's.

So you cannot say, with absolutism, as you have, that it is inaccurate that publicly speaking out in contradiction to your authority figure's decision (no matter how qualified you make it) is questioning authority.

(actually, you can SAY it, but I'd disagree... I wouldn't say it's empirically proven as inaccurate though. too many absolutists around here)

In a more lax, democratic setting, yes, but in a military one for instance, no you could not.

It depends on the authority and context. Those moments of questioning a leader may be mild in less extreme situations, but in extreme situations they can be a major probblem. Military leaders must often order their men to go do things the men, naturally, would feel self-preservation instincts to resist... i.e. it'll get them killed. The idea of training is to never question authority so men don't have it cross their mind to hesitate at obeying such commands or debating them, or even questioning them. The seed of doubt is enough to be a problem when the stakes are high enough and the situation is dire.

Now, in a job here in America, that's not the case. So yeah, HERE and on a football team it doesn;t feel like a big deal to slightly disagree with how your boss does things. But in an etreme environment it wouldn;t fly.

*Takes huge whiff* Ahhhhh, it's that time of year again.

In context, Dansby's comments weren't really that big a deal. I also think Philbin did the right thing by saying it wasn't just this incident that got Chad Johnson cut.

He didn't question the leader, he questioned the leader's decision. There is a clear difference.

I didn't insult you, I insulted your clothes.

Look, a LOT of leaders do not consider those to be two discrete things. In fact, many leaders (again, more extreme ones especially) would rather have you dislike THEM personally but never question their decisions.

It could, inaccurately and mistakenly, be seen as questioning authority.

Listen, words have definitions and they have meanings. To QUESTION someone's AUTHORITY has a very specific meaning that Karlos Dansby's actions simply do not fit. This isn't a referendum on whether Karlos Dansby did the right or wrong thing. This is words and meanings. Dansby clearly disagreed on a personal level with the decision while noting it wasn't his decision to make and the ones whose job it is to make had more information than he does. At no point in that interview though did he QUESTION their AUTHORITY. In fact, he did the exact opposite, re-asserting their authority several times.

The team (if you believe that Dansby speaks for the players) is ticked because one of their teammates, who was working hard, was funny and likable, and was trying to resurrect his career, has been cut for a non-football reason. You would expect that of any team.

Is Chad's judgment any better because of that? No. Do football teams often release players because of disciplinary problems? Yes. Are the younger receivers going to get more snaps now and build timing with the new, young QB? Yes.

Chad blew his opportunity. Time to move on.

I get the distinction you're drawing now and it makes sense. My point is that personal disagreement with authority's decision by a respected guy in the locker room (I'm assuming that, but it seems to be the case) can help erode the level of respect for that authority figure among the players.

To me, it's the potential to erode respect for authority. I can say, "I feel like you made a ridiculous, decision, Chris and didn't stand behind your employees... but you're the boss, so it's your decision."

That may acknowledge your authority in words, but in terms of attitudes, it could lower bar of respect for you among other employees witnessing it.

As per one of Omar's tweets, Dansby said "I just hate we didn't stand behind him."

To a certain degree, I can see that. I understand both sides of the story, but it does seem as if we've turned our back on one of our players when he needed us the most, and get the general sense that is what slighted our roster. That is a natural human reaction though.

Emotionally I totally see where Dansby is coming from. hell, I liked Chad a lot. I can;t imagine how I'd feel if I'd been in the locker room, and on the field with him as a teammate. I'd be upset. Especially if you KNOW how crazy his chick is... and you feel BAD for the guy you know? you also know this may be the final blow to Chad's career. Who'll pick him up now? So on a personal level, if you care about the guy, yeah, you'd want the team to help him out by giving him another chance.

I respect Karlos' loyalty for that. I think the only issue here was the public aspect of how it was handled.

Interesting that in his media interview Dansby says when he and Philbin talked, the subject of his interview comments on the Chad decision never came up.

Just how to get better as a football team and as a man. Whatever that last part means. lol.

So essentially Philbin and he talked about the reason for his dismissing Chad, and later when he noted to the press that he wished Karlos had kept that in-house, that was not something he had scolded Dansby about but rather just sort of his personal opinion. Interesting.

It's not terrible, but it's still a little insubordinate and selfish, yes.
It's like any job; if you have a problem, disagreement, or need to "vent", you do it with your superiors, not the public.
By voicing an opinion on the subject with the public, you're slightly putting yourself before the team b/c all you're doing is exacerbating any conflict.
What Dansby should've said when the media prodded him for dirt was, "no comment", and then went to Philbin to discuss it if it was a concern.
Then Philbin would've reassured him that no one player is above the team, and that all actions have consequences.

Philbin didn't cut Chad Johnson; Chad basically cut himself, so if Dansby or any player is disappointed, it should be toward Johnson's actions, not the organization who simply won't tolerate it.

Interesting to note that when Philbin read that pre-drafted statement in which he noted that Chad's release was not due to one incident, that was in all likelihood a CYA (cover your ***) statement intended to preven the NFLPA from filing a $925,000 grievance for wrongful termination.

It seems Dansby's biggest problem is that Chad didn't get 3 strikes. Well let's look at it this way.

Strike 1) The presser with the profanity
    Strike 2) Getting arrested
Strike 3) It is quite possible strike three is something we don't know about. Maybe it's simply his performance in practice. Maybe Philbin was upset about the drops in the scrimmage and the preseason. Maybe it's just everything overall. I have a feeling Chad did indeed get 3 strikes.

    I agree with this.
The new dog in the yard has to show he's got some bite if he doesn't want the pack to run him around.
If Philbin didn't put his foot down, the team would've seen it as a sign of weakness b/c they all know right from wrong regardless of their feelings about Chad.

This also had to be done now so Miami could distance itself from this fiasco ASAP. Soon it'll only be Chad Johnson news, whereas every day spent on the team it would've remained Johnson AND Dolphins news, which especially isn't smart while Hard Knocks is filming.

First he walks into a coaches meeting and takes the liberty of grabbing a seat.
Then he embarrasses the organization with a filth bomb interview (which I would've loved watching if he were on any other team).
He follows it up with a critical drop that, in a real game, might've cost us a win.
And now he's being arrested after telling the world he's going to do so.
If Johnson truly cared how his career ended [football, not his television one], he would've shut his trap and minded his actions rather than thinking people have to accept his contrary behavior just b/c that's who Chad Johnson is. He should be on a bucket of ADHD medication is what he should be.

the fact of the matter is that chad johnson is no longer on the team and speaking out against that isnt gonna change a thing so why voice your opinion when your opinion doesnt matter? in extreme cases if unchecked dansby can keep running his mouth and cause division over something him or any other player on the team cant do anything about. if any player is asked about a decision that their leader made that they dont aggree with, the right thing to do is say "no comment".

If there is a problem with the players on the team with Philbin's decision regarding releasing Johnson. Just wait until the Dolphins finish last in the AFC East this season and win only 5-6 games.

Ross thinks the Dolphins have a talented team and he expects them to compete for the division title. When the reality of how little talent they really have finally is realized by Ross, that is when the real fireworks will start.
