Hey cole slaw, youre gross. Also, its because I treated it like a thesis and you treated it like a rant that he understood my point.

PS: Mayo only belongs on tuna. :chuckle:

I'd state emphatically that Archie was the most athletic of the 3.

Well, like George Costanza, you probably want to be nicknamed T-Bone, but since I'm already T-Bone, you are Cocoa the Chimp. :chuckle:

Fair points on everything.... and I agree with most of it, not that my agreement is a form of validation or anything. lol

Regarding the bold, I was never meaning to assert that the circumstances had to be optimal. Holding out for "optimal" is bit too much IMO. What I was referring to was favorable [as opposed to unfavorable].

The only disagreement I have is about Eli b/c both he and Peyton were reared by an NFL QB and around the game from an early age, as well as both having 43+ college starts in a pro style offense in the SEC. That's my only gripe b/c those 2 guys are the last 2 I'd use as any type of standard of comparison.

PS: If Jeff George had a million dollar arm and a 2 cent brain, wouldn't it have made sense to sit him and give his brain a bit more time to digest the game?... I say that b/c he actually had some good years later on and wasn't the complete lost cause that his first 4 years in Indy would indicate.

.... and it's not even close, right?

We've discussed this a few weeks ago IIRC, and I think we might both be in agreement that Archie would've been a sure fire HOFer if he had Peyton's Indy offense around him or were on a loaded team like the Giants.

    Ok Gina.

Seriously, if you were to say I hope Tanny is ready to start that's great and makes sense. Oddly, the things you said weren't great nor made sense.

I've always believed that Archie had a mediocre NFL career totally because of the lack of talent he was surrounded with.

fair points about the mannings but you did use Eli in your initial statement about how the 4 best qb's had sat for a while. Peyton is one of the elite qb's ever and probably the best from his generation (imo) and he didnt sit at all.

RE Jeff George...Nothing could have fixed him. He simply didnt know how to lead. Leadership is part of the position and the guy was such a grade A toolbag he just needed to start life over again. Every physical characteristic a pocket qb needed he had...the mental aspects he lacked were not football related, they were life related. Sitting him wouldnt have mattered. His rating and stats in indy are the way they are because the team was so pathetic and because his leadership skills were as pathetic. :wink2:

How do you think he would've turned out if he were reared by an NFL QB and went to a team like Indy where he'd be surrounded with weapons?

When he played there was no Indy, so I used to say if somehow the Dolphins could have drafted him, he'd have made it to at least a couple of Super Bowls.

Examples like Archie are why I don't like to take the volatility of the position for granted if I don't have to. I hope the defense shows up, Reggie Bush picks up where he left off in 2011, and the talent we have at Oline does some gelling soon b/c I wouldn't mind having a great reason to start Tannehill week 1 other than "he looks ready".

All this proves is that you can't ask for a nickname and get a good one. It has to be a spontaneous happening.

    Thought of a fourth reason....

    4) The dolphins have no right side to the OLine and Moore or Garrard are better crash-test dummies (as one person in the chat put it)

Now that he has been named the starter, the arguments in this thread are more relevant again. Can he be damaged by starting too early? It seems possible.

This preseason, Gabbert seems to have recovered from his horrific rookie season. IMO, Tannehill's floor this season would be Gabbert's rookie season. So I guess he could overcome that kind of adversity if Gabbert can.
