Finascious D, you and I obviously don't agree in regards to Ireland at this time, but I certainly appreciate that you have based you reasoning on your belief that Ireland had very little input during the Parcells years. . While I certainly think he had more input during those years than you do. Neither of us really knows how much or how little influence Ireland had during his first two and a half years as the Dolphins GM. I also appreciate you calling it as you see it, and even if we have had some bitter disagreements on this forum, I am always happy to see and read your comments when you take the time to express them. Whether we agree or disagree on this forum, I am sure that when all is said and done, we both want the same thing in the end. A winning football team, and if Ireland is the GM responsible for bringing that type of team back to Miami, great. If on the other hand it takes another GM to bring winning back to the organization, I am sure we can both agree that we will both be happy, as long as the Dolphins are once again winning more football games than they are losing.
I don't care if the Dolphins emulate the Eagles, I simply pointed them out as a team that has pretty solid depth. Pretend that I mentioned the Pats or Giants or Packers if it makes you feel better. And if you honestly don't believe we have enough evidence right now about Ireland I'm not sure when you think we will.
If a player can not be judged for 2-3 years after he is drafted, as many individuals insist. How do you know none of the QB's in last years draft were not any good? Personally I think Dalton is a far superior QB than Henne, and he was still on the board when the Dolphins drafted in the first round. To me, you are just making excuses for the fact Ireland made a serious mistake in not drafting a QB in 2011. Instead he decided to stick with Henne ,who had been replaced as the QB in the last game of the 2010 season
Don't pretend the team you were bringing up was pointless. "Better then the Dolphins" doesn't equal good team. Explain to me, why you think Ireland didn't have to follow Parcells blueprint? What is your evidence?
There's no f'ing way the overbearing Parcells would bring Ireland along if he wouldn't follow Parcells' blueprint.... to a t I might add. Andy Botwin would stand a better chance of waking up with 12 toes.
Because the team is still horrible. Nothing has changed. It was bad then and it's bad now. If anything, the team is worse.
After one season? If we win 9 games, will want you to keep Ireland? 10? 13? What will it take...anything less than a SB and even then? i don't think it matters does it?
What do you mean one season? One season of what? You guys have convinced yourselves, for some reason, that Ireland had zero input as the GM of a professional sports franchise. I don't get it.
No, you convinced yoursleves he had 100% autonomy. I think he ran the draft and FA. I think he made all the decisions (other than the ones we know Parcells stepped in to make). I also think he had to find not the best players period, but the best players that fit Parcells mold. Why you guys ignore that proves one side is being irrational. You need no other proof than Henne vs Tannehill. Why do you pretend that there's no such thing as the Parcells blueprint?
The Pats havent had a good GM since Pioli...the haven't done that great in the draft the past few years IMO...before this year their FA signings were eh..... They have Tom Brady...............period......he covers up alot of mistakes...
People generally turn Bill Belichick into some sort of weird demigod and tend to get bizarre ideas about him but the Patriots 2010 draft was one of the best singular drafts in a while.
Absolutely. Did you happen to see Moore in the preseason. He played terrible. Moore played decently last season but as Philbin stated when he told Moore he was not the starter, "you are a great guy and a plus for the Dolphins , but you are now the backup to a rookie". I would take Dalton over Moore any day of the week. In fact I think in a couple of years some of the other QB's drafted in 2011 will far exceed Moore in the NFL. Don't forget, Ireland only signed Moore to be a backup. He was sold on Henne as the Dolphins starter last season and Moore only played because of a season ending injury to Henne. Moore will be a free agent after this season and I would be willing to bet you that no team in the NFL will want to sign him to be their starting QB. He is an above average backup in the NFL and that is about it. Garrard was slated to be the starter in the first preseason game before he was hurt. In fact if Garrard was healthy and with the play of Tannehill and Delvin, I doubt if Moore would have even been on the 53 man roster when the season begins. I think he would have been traded for a late round draft pick or cut if no other team had an interest in trading for him.
No doubt that having Brady has been a major reason for the success of the Patriots but if having a great QB was the only criteria for being a dominant team in the NFL, the Dolphins should have been as successful with the Dolphins as Brady has been with the Patriots. The fact is that the Patriots have a great HC and he is the best at putting his players in the best possible situation for them to succeed. The Patriots, because of their record over the last decade, have always ended up drafting late in the first round. Just as most of the other successful teams have done. Most drafts only have a few players who are deemed impact type players. Yet the Patriots, Packers, Giants, and Ravens seem to be able to find players who come in and make an impact early in their careers no matter where they are forced to select players in the draft. This all goes back to the ability of the GM and the rest of the player personnel department to select players who are going to be able to successfully adjust to the NFL. Every organization in the NFL has players they miss on in the draft, but the teams that finish the season in the playoffs almost every year have a lot fewer draft mistakes than the team which consistently finish in the bottom tier of all the NFL teams. All you have to do is look at the draft picks of the Dolphins over the last decade and it is very easy to see why they have been such a bad to mediocre team during this period. Hopefully the players Ireland has drafted the last two years will eventually prove to be good draft picks, especially Tannehill. Only time will tell.
