I think overall, you've got to be pretty happy with the game. There are still some glaring issues, but that shouldn't have been a surprise since very early in the process.

Tannehill had a good game. His stat line wasn't good, and there's people in the media suggesting he struggled but that's really kind of bull****. He did pretty much everything I think you want to see. He's making good reads, decisions, getting the ball out on time, and throwing it well... Just not consistently, and adding in the drops doesn't help. I'm not really at all troubled by the interception. It wasn't the best throw, but it was aggressive, within his capabilities physically, and he wasn't all that far from actually pulling it off.

It was nice to see them get a more realistic dose of the run game and get results. I'm completely ready to concede to Alen that Reggie Bush doesn't have the ability to be a great zone rusher, but he's got enough physical ability and is running hard enough to make plays. I think there's a pretty good chance we start relying more heavily on Daniel Thomas as the year progresses.

Seeing first contact run into Jorvorskie Lane and bounce off ineffectively on the professional level was nice.

It's bizarre how pretty much the only bad games I've ever seen Anthony Fasano play are vs. the Falcons, and they were awful.

I think at some point Charles Clay is going to be a pretty damn good weapon, but he's got to stop being so streaky in order to get a chance.

Jonathan Martin still looks very ugly at times, but I think he took a bit of a breath from the ****-rain that was the game last week. There were several plays where he actually looked quite good against good competition.

Legedu Naanee is looking more and more like a practice superstar who wilts in games. They really need Brian Hartline back.

Defensively, I think you come away feeling a lot more confident with your team, and your defensive coordinator. I think tonight demonstrated a clear difference from the past two games with success being secondary to evaluation, and an actual "dress rehearsal".

Kevin Coyle has some nice pressure packages.

Olivier Vernon still needs to work on having more pass rush moves, but I don't think it's at all fair to qualify him as a pass rush specialist.

I think the defensive outing was especially productive with the perspective of it being Gary Guyton and Austin Spitler starting and not, you know, our starters.

Philbin certainly wasn't blowing smoke up our asses when he commented on the Dolphins second team defense performing well. They forced a 3-and-out vs. the Falcons starters, and I thought they stood up reasonably well even though they scored a touchdown the second.

Defensive backs were still up and down, but I think that's basically a fact of life at this point and has been since 2009.

I don't know if the change in coaching has schematically resulted in John Denney being freed up to get down the field, but it seems like he's consistently the first or one of the first guys to the ball carrier, which was pretty frequently the case early in his career.

Yeah John Denney's being down the field was so unreal that for a second I thought that had to be Brian Hartline, a guy I knew wasn't going to play!

Denney has always gotten down the field well in punt coverage. The long snapper can release immediately and the past couple of years they cannot have a defensive player lined up on their nose, which makes it easier for any long snapper.

Daniel Thomas looked great I thought. Not sure I saw the same thing you saw on regards to Bush, because I thought he looked the same as last year.

Good point about Tannehill's pick, Tom Brady threw a similar pick the same night, trying to fit a pass into tight coverage that got tip-picked. It's the kind of thing that happens when you are trying to make plays that are more impactful than a checkdown.

On a zone play you've got an aiming point but you've got to be aware of what is going on with the rest of the play, and make quick decisions on where to go, including cutting back. Bush has great physical skills for the cutback, but I don't think he sees it all that well. I had visions of Jamal Charles or Chris Johnson in my head pre-season, but I think he'll just be pretty good and they'll be a little bit unsure of giving him a long term contract.

That being said of course he did grow a lot between the rest of his career and last year, and I might be going off of way too little preseason.

It seems to me like during the Sparano years he wasn't as active down the field as he was with Saban and Cameron. Maybe Sparano had his long-snapper holding blocks, or something like that longer? I'm completely ignorant of special teams scheme.

I cant wait to see Tannehill move that linebacker with his eyes. I would love to see that happen at most halfway through the season.

I didn't think it was that bad from any area besides the WR and TE position. Drop after drop. Nobody getting seperation. It was just awful. We miss Chad and Hartline.

me too, I thought it was 82 not 92. Denney does get downfield in hurry usually though. Sometimes he misses like a Spanish bull.
