Matt Blanchard cut loose from the Bears, coming in for tryout. Doesn't sound good for Moore or Garrard.
Either he's here purely to throw passes to the tryout WRs, or they're thinking about keeping on a 3rd practice squad QB while they jettison Moore and Garrard.
Clearly they are disappointed in Tannehill, think he's a bust and hoping to get Matt Barkley next draft.
After seeing the Palm Beach Post report, and the fact that Devlin has made some major progressions, it's likely they'll cut Garrad and attempt a trade for Moore. If the coaches are confident in Devlin, I could see the team rolling with him as the backup.
The team works out lots of players all the time at lots of different positions, I wouldn't read too much into this. Chances are they liked him coming out and want to take a look to update their scouting reports in case a spot opens up or an injury occurs in the future.
If Garrad still can't put pressure on it, that's dragging out to look longer than 3-4 weeks. Which makes me question if his body can even handle football anymore. I think Garrard goes. ****.
Well, if we are committed to the rebuild, sure... but Tannehill would really benefit from having a veteran around him this year. I think we may be saying, "If we aren;t competing this year, let's dump the expensive salaries we don't need."
If we have to let Garrard go because of the injury, part of me wants to keep Matt Moore. just because we know he's a capable backup. Devlin sure has shown quite a bit of improvement, but its been against 3rd and 4th stringers and such. So I'd be a bit worried with him going into a game as a backup if Ryan gets hurt. Ideally, Tannehill, Moore, Devlin. Or if you can get something for moore, move him, and find a vet backup somewhere who maybe can help teach Tannehill a few things too.
Because there is essentially no hope for making noise in the playoffs this year, I see no harm in letting Pat be the #2. The only problem is it would be nice for Tanny to have some veteran presence in practice.
Anybody against having Devlin and a guy like Blanchard being out backup guys, or maybe Dallas's McGee, who I heard was being inquired about this morning (rotoworld).
They should be shopping both Garrad and Moore around and if either or both can get good trade value then pull the trigger. Its not like we are going to compete this year anyhow.
Not my money lol. Ideally for me I would like it to be Tanny, Garrard, and Devlin. But if Garrard can't give it a go I say we keep Moore and Devlin as the 2/3.
Right now I'd be hesitant to make Devlin our #2, but with another year under his belt he'll make a great #2 IMO. I'd plan on keeping Garrard as our #2 this year as Moore as shown that he is not a fit in a WCO.
I think I would keep Garrard anyways for the vet presence. I would go Tanny, Devlin as the #2 and Garrard as the #3. He can help Tanny and if something happens and Devlin has to start playing, Garrard should be 100% by then.
Accumluate!!!!!! any picks is better than keeping both, and better than cutting one for no return. Doubt anything would be offered for Garrard, and frankly, with the preseason Moore had, the only argument you could use to another team is "he didnt fit this system" but Moore's preseason performance cost value on the trade front I would think. Maybe get a 6th or 7th at this point????
