BenVolinPBP profile BenVolinPBP #Canes RT @ProFootballTalk: Raiders dumping 2011 third-round pick DeMarcus Van Dyke, per league source. CB meets need?
Would people really be wanting to sign him if he weren't a former Hurricane? I mean, I'm not against signing him, but I didn't think he was even that good in college based on what I had read (and the limited bit I saw). I haven't seen him in the NFL like at all.
Does he have to pass though waivers? I don't think he will make it though the other teams if he does. Phins really need more cb's!
David Hyde Tweet: CB DeMarcus Van Dyke waived by Oak. Read this Football Outsiders analysis of him as Top 25 hidden prospect to see why Dolphins - desperate for CBs - would be lucky if he fell to their 8th spot in the waivers (Indy probably will grab him first): "Van Dyke barely makes the list; he was a third-round pick, and started four games as a rookie. Our game charting project shows him with only 4.6 adjusted yards per pass and a success rate of 67 percent. Those numbers are among the league's best, but come with the small sample size caveat. In the past, small sample size charting numbers have picked out some soon-to-breakout stars (Cortland Finnegan) but also some busts. Van Dyke has the athletic talent to be a starting corner if he can work on his technique and discipline. At (Univ of Miami), he was more potential than performance, and even got benched halfway through his senior season because he was struggling on the field. The Raiders signed free agents Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer to be their starting cornerbacks, but Van Dyke could grab one of those jobs if he shows enough in training camp."
Yes. He's young with speed and athleticism. More guys like him we have, better chance one of them works out for us.
I never, ever, ever thought the idea of acquiring Demarcus Van Dyke would be labeled with words like "coup". The guy was effing terrible in college. I know the trend is for UM players to go to the pros and be infinitely more physical than they were at The U but I never got that feel from him in Oakland. I mean, I guess we're pretty desperate at the position, so I understand...but still.
Just say no to DVD. Blu Ray is in now anyway. Did not like him at all at Miami. Frustratingly bad coverage and mental lapses. He's not going to be Sam Shields.
Have to admit his coverage numbers as per PFF were impressive last year...but still. You have to think there's a reason they cut him.
He was a reach for sure at 81st overall, but it was typical of the Raiders pre-McKenzie to reach for speed, and Van Dyke ran a 4.25 forty.
He looked better last season than he did when he was at UM. I'm not sure how good that is, and if the fact he has been cut is mildly surprising. They do need corners, so I wouldn't be surprised if they put in a claim.
BenVolinPBP If claimed, will be awarded tomorrow at 4 pm RT @Mort_Sheff: @BenVolinPBP: Van Dyke to hit waivers?
DVD sucked at Miami pretty badly. Surprisingly however, he was actually pretty solid with the Raiders last year. I have no idea why they cut him actually. He would be a good pickup for us imo.
The reason why "It's the Raiders..." is dead. This guy was cut because he was drafted by "It's the Raiders..." and the current guy cut him as part of cleaning up the, "It's the Raiders..." mess.
It's a "coup" in the sens that he is a competent DB and our ******* GM traded our best one, so we are indeed desperate. Just like a mediocre WR such as James Jones is looked upon as a great deal to be made. It's the expectations.
I don't understand why he was a third round pick in the first place. He was ****ing terrible at The U. Then again, this is of course a game of measurables now.
We have Cb depth issues, and as much as I like guys with tools, I doubt we land DVD, he winds up in Indy Would prefer Franks, but suspect we were tire kicking to look at him after the season starts to avoid the contract guarantee.
