It seemed on every play wake would rush to the outside and get pushed away from the qb always arriving a step to late.Doesn't he have an inside move.Doesn't take albert einstein to fiqure him out.
Coaching or just not a fit for 4-3?

If we had ANY interior pressure, it'd be one HELL of a move tho...

    The problem isn't wake.

He ends up too wide of and too far behind the quarterback too often IMO. A symptom of having too few moves and being able to be blocked reliably by pushing him that direction.

Sanchez did well to step up in the pocket today. the Jets interior OL did well to not allow pressure up the middle for the most part.

Wake had A LOT of pressures today and the first 3 weeks. I think he's doing his job very well.

No matter how predictable he becomes, RTs still can't stop him from pressuring the QB.

Thats exactly what I see.The whole defensive line has applied no pressure today and really all season.

I'd like to see them get more creative with Wake a la what the Ravens did with Terrell Suggs the past two years or what Nick Saban did with Jason Taylor. Those basic schemes aren't all that dissimilar to what Coyle's shown thus far. They don't really ever stand him up, move him around pre-snap. He's in his spot, and he's just there. And when there's no one opposite him to get after the passer, I think he's neutralized more so than normal as he's lined up closer to the ball and doesn't, IMO, get a chance to build up his speed as much as he did when he was standing up as an OLB in the 3-4.

Wake also has more responsibility in this 4-3 defense. You can see him set the edge very well and also pressure the QB. I, personally, think wake is doing an outstanding job in the roles that he is being asked to do. I have also seen him on multiple occasions make an inside move on the tackle, however on those occasions, unfortunately, the opposing QB has already released the ball (sometimes too early because wake is pressuring him). I have also seen wake get his hands up, as well a jump, trying to disrupt passing lanes. It's not wake, to me; it's the defensive part he is playing.

He does need to start making more plays.

In his defense, the guy gets blatantly held at least a held dozen times a game.

His frustration is mounting im sure and lets not forget that he is getting mugged at least a couple of times a game with no calls....

His 2nd move is pretty incredible. He does that really low spin move where he starts outside but spins/stretches low inside.

Have our opponents been called for even a single holding penalty in passing downs this season? Wake is getting badly, obviously held many time a game....and nothing! There was one play in the fourth quarter when I was jumping and screaming about it and then they finally threw the flag. I felt like "Finally!"....and it ended up being on Santonio Holmes downfield, and not the RT mugging Wake.

If the other team is allowed to just grab on with no consequenses, of course we'll have no pass rush. I think this must be a part of why we're sending the DB blitz so often. If you send more rushers than they have blockers, they cant hold all of them.

Stats are just stats. Impact is what really matters and Wake has had more impact through these 1st 3 games than ever before as far as I'm concerned.

His game is very vulnerable to being held.

He lacks the ability to drag another human being of similar weight who is hanging on to him for the QB's dear life.

    Cut him.

PFF would agree with you. His overall rating of +15.5 so far this season, is the best 3 game stretch of his career. Leads the league in hits with 8 and tied for the most hurries with 13. Even though no sacks yet, the other two totals are considered enough to give him his high rating.

Sacks can be overrated. (When you are getting hurries.)

I'm not so sure about that. I would be interested to see a study on the percentage of offensive drives that end in a punt in which sacks occur, versus ones in which only hurries occur.

I'm not saying Wake's hurries are of no value or that he's not a good player, but I would suspect that a sack is much more valuable on average defensively than a hurry.

It's more valuable but they are not the be all and end all. Hurries are significant and can disrupt a play, in my view at least, significantly. Not to mention, hurries, often, are the reason why turnovers are created. And when it comes to the discussion of field position, hurries can (keyword) be more valuable than sacks in that case, especially when you consider the sheer amount of quarterbacks that have issues with hurries, namely in the A and B gaps.

Hurries lead to ints, or at least a defensive failure, and occur more often. Heck, Wake has 13 already. He's on a pace for 69 hurries. Last year he had 52.

Yes. That move is called sacking the QB 4 times in one game.

    Btw,

Right now Cameron Wake is the league's best pure pass-rusher. And we're not forgetting anybody.

    Jesse Agler ‏@finsjesse
Last @PFF nugget for the day...they gave Wake an absurd 11.4rating in yesterday's game. For context, Hartline had a 4.1.
