I'll concur with probably the worst. The fan in me wishes that we were more aggressive but we do have a whole lot of cap next year.
When you consider one of those free agents is completely worthless and the other has been a liability in pass coverage, yeah, I'd say it's the worst. And there is no reason Nanee should still be here. Not only is he not bringing anything to the table, he's coming to the table and taking **** off of it.

'Cause trying to treat a 33 year old, IR-released guard who was signed on a one year deal to provide insurance for a player who is performing solidly like it's the absolute worst thing you've ever heard might actually be the nadir of the Jeff Ireland hate movement.

yes it's very upsetting that Ireland didn't waste all of Mr. Ross money on overpriced free agents this past offseason. How dare he spend any time focusing on undrafted free agents like Lane, Shelby, Samuda, Thigpen... these guys are clearly bums and how they made the roster is anyone's guess. They must have naked pictures of Ireland. He really needs to not walk around naked and leave himself in these compromising positions where people can take advantage of him. *this post is sarcastic. maybe.
The thread is just saying how we managed to avoid any positive free agent acquisitions this season, and it is right.
Acting like it's a big deal to release guys who were signed as depth, competition, etc. is really silly and weakens your argument. There are reasons to not like Jeff Ireland, coming up with really silly ones pretty much just detracts from it.

you should have included this in your original post: Personally, that is not necessarily a bad thing... although I disagree with the sentiment that we won't try to improve the team in next offseason's free agency period. We will have a ton of cap room and resigning our players isn't going to fill ALL of that room.
That isn't necessarily relevant when dealing with free agent markets. Very rarely do FAs of the caliber some are requesting provide any type of value added.
Which leads me to this point; The Packer way isn't really to spend a ton in Free Agency. Do you think Philbin will deviate from that?

Not by my assessment, but it's not particularly negligent given the circumstances either. You're also pretty much abandoning what you were trying to argue here, that the free agents signed were somehow huge failures.
Does it appear to you that the free agents that we have acquired this season are making meaningful impacts during game day? I haven't been paying attention at all to what Mario Williams has been doing for Buffalo this season, and I wouldn't have gone after him in free agency either. I took the thread as simply stating that our free agent acquisitions this season, most of them have been cut and of the two that are left: one gets burned quite often in the secondary and is now injured. The second is the invisible man with 0 catches all season.
I suppose we'll find out. So far that appears to be the case. One could say the Eagles and Patriots also follow that same theory, to not overspend on free agency and use your resources to keep your own players. But they have deviated from that at times. Asomugha and Adalius Thomas examples.
Richard Marshall has allowed a 60QBR when thrown at this season. You can classify that as "burned" or whatever adjective you like, but it ranks near the top of the league. The thread stated that the Dolphins free agent class was the worst in history. In order to make that claim, there should be a lot of attention paid to all the other free agent classes. I used Buffalo simply because it is the most obvious example. Mario Williams was given $100M. To date, he has one sack. So, just for argument's sake, lets assume that Richard Marshall has been worthless: Spending a minimal amount of money for low production: not helping, not hurting. Spending a boatload of money for low production: hurting a lot.
They can only sign depth type guys for low money although Marshall IMO wasn't "low money" he was starter money, anyway because of the salary cap situation or lack thereof....
And you can't really do that without putting it in some sort of context. Pithy phrasing don't cut it. Those 7 of 9 deserve a context. And so does the idea that Ireland should have done something different. You can put this kind of stuff in context. It's early, but you can explore the paths not taken, with Mario Williams being a good example. What should he have done?
Disaster of a free agency class for sure. Didn't improve the team whatsoever. But we do have Jeff Ireland as a GM, so nobody is surprised.
Most of the FA's are FA's for a reason or they want to much money thus they are also FA's. I have no problem with them kicking tires on some. Most don't have much tread left but sometimes you get a few more miles out of one. I'm looking forward to getting players from the draft and not having so many older FA's myself.
For starters, he should've signed a WR. Naanee doesn't count. I actually liked the Marshall signing at the time, because yes, it added depth. Then Vontae was traded. So, yeah. And yes, pass rusher was and is a need. Passing on Mario Williams is fine, but passing on bringing one in altogether is not.
I'm really curious though, what is the perception of what the Dolphins missed out in free agency? Who should Jeff Ireland have signed that they didn't that would have made free agency more successful?
