You know, the one you (and I) had that he would come in here year one and buck all the odds, take the league by storm, and perform like a franchise QB during his rookie year? Can we safely put that one to rest at this point, or is it still alive and kicking? If you never had that fantasy, you should answer "yes," because it was over for you from the start.
Only fantasy I have involves some ice cubes, a nine iron, and a buffalo (stuffed preferably for safety reasons)
Isn't this just the same question in the other topic about after three weeks is Tannehill the guy? I'll answer it though...I don't think it was ever a fantasy about him playing right away and taking the team by storm. I had hoped he would surprise us like Andy Dalton did for Cincy last year but that hasn't happened yet. I honestly thought David Garrard was going to be the QB with Tannehill in a watch and learn role up until we were atleast bad enough record wise to put him in. He did get thrown into the fire which isn't always a bad thing but the result has not been that of a Cam Newton or Andy Dalton. In my opinion Tannehill is playing scared and it shows despite the amount of hits that he takes lingers towards the bottom of the league. Imagine if we didn't have a good offensive line how bad he would be. Not only does he need to have a good game against Arizona for his own confidence, he needs to have one for us as well. If he can play well the heat will be off of him for atleast a week.
The only fantasy is that we aren't rebuilding this year after trading Brandon Marshall and VD and starting a developmental QB his rookie year. It's pointless to answer this poll because essentially you are ignoring the fact that we have a rookie head coach, crap WR's and a team that is being churned. Instead, once again, you are focusing on one position and refuse to factor in the lack of support he has had. I'd say the fantasy is alive and strong after he led the team down the field TWICE to both tie and potentially win the game. If Dan Carpenter hits one of two field goals, do these posts even exist?
Shou....another Tannehill thread? I think we clearly know your position on him now......dont you think? Im sorry...for some reason....I read YEAR ONE in your post......when you really wrote...after three pro games....my bad.
Shou is hedging his bet, if Tannehill does flop he can point us back to these posts. If he becomes a superstar he can say he was just spurring debate or we'll all forget about it.. Like the strategy.
Difference is that in 2010 he was RIGHT. On this issue he is wrong. Matt Moore didn't nearly win the MVP last year nor lead his team to the playoffs.
With the talent that we have on this team if you had that fantasy you probably need to go on some psych meds because you are delusional.
Another poll, and another Tannehill thread from the same poster! This is getting old. This fantasy isn't even an accurate fantasy of any Tannehill fantasies that might exist the way you word the poll. By that i mean anyone that would have that fantasy wouldn't dis-credit or credit their fantasy after 3 weeks. Come on man! Give it a rest!
I voted no. I never had any fantasies about Ryan Tannehill. Lauren Tannehill? Now thats a different story....or shall I say, fantasy.
no he was absolutely wrong. the point he kept ignoring in 2010 is that Penny was already broken which he proved in that the two times he came into play, he was practically immediately hit and put on IR both times. he kept ignorning this fact which was the most infuriating part.
You know... I would bet that there are a goodly number of folks here who don't even catch that allusion. Heaven help me, I remember listening to Mama's wax discs with Frank Sinatra as a tenor! Unfortunately, this question is almost that old!
Thread not going as OP hoped. I see franchise QB written all over Tannehill regardless of his QB rating. I NEVER thought that about Matt Moore.
Actually it's going exactly as I expected. I figured the fantasy he would play well his rookie season was indeed still alive!
I was one of those on this forum who didn't want the Dolphins to select Tannehill in the first round. That being stated, I think it is still far to early to form an opinion as to how effective Tannehill will be for the Dolphins in the long term. It was felt before the draft that Tannehill would be a project for a few years, due to his limited experience at the QB position, while in college. Because of his knowledge of the offense and the fact Garrard was injured during preseason, Tannehill was promoted to the starting job. Also the fact that Matt Moore was terrible during the preseason, just made it easier for the coaches to name Tannehill the starter. Tannehill is probably not ready to be the starter at this time. Especially considering that he is working with the worst receiving corp in the NFL. This isn't his fault, it is just the way it is. The Dolphins, whether they want to admit it or not,are in a rebuilding process. The major part of this rebuilding process is giving Tannehill the playing time to develop into the QB who can lead this team for the next decade. Right now it is far to early in the Tannehill era to be able to determine if he is the long term answer at the QB position or not. While I may not have been excited with his selection in the first round by the Dolphins. I certainly am willing to give him every opportunity to show me that the Dolphins made the right choice. Like most every rookie QB, Tannehill is bound to have his ups and downs this season. Until he gets a better supporting cast around him, I think it is going to be extremely difficult to judge his prospects for the future. I have absolutely no problem with him being the starter at this time and all I expect from him this year is to show improvement as the season goes along. It has taken Matt Ryan over four years and two great receivers and a solid TE to be seen as a top ten QB. Perhaps when Tannehill has two great receivers and a solid TE to throw to, he will also develop into a top ten QB. For now we all need to just relax and give Tannehill time to develop. If he doesn't end up being the right guy for the job, the next HC will be able select his own QB. Because if Tannehill ends up being a flop, that will mean Philbin won't be the coach of the Dolphins either. My opinion is that Tannehill is better right now than I expected him to be in his first season. Heck, I didn't even see him starting a game until at least his second year in the NFL. I thought he would sit and learn this year behind Garrard. I never thought the WCO suited Moore, and I figured Moore would have been traded or cut if Garrard had not been injured. I am at least willing to see how Tannehill performs for a couple of seasons before I start determining if he is the QB of the future for the Dolphins.
For someone who spends a large portion of his time defending an underperforming GM you sure have been trolling against our rookie QB pretty hard who is only 3 games into his career.
Well he was clearly overmatched for about a 5 minute stretch vs Houston which cost us dearly. But Houston is also imo one of the three best defenses in the entire league along with SF and Arizona. All 3 of whom are on our schedule this year. Vs Oakland he played very well. Vs the Jets he struggled at times but hey, the Jets have a good defense and lots of QB's struggle at times vs them even the great ones like Peyton Manning (twice), Eli Manning (didnt exactly light em up last year) etc. And yet we still should have won that game because he did enough to put us in a position to win if Carpenter had been his normally reliableself and nails one of those two FG's. So my end thought is, we are 3 games in on Tannehills rookie season and we should be 2-1 but are 1-2 through no fault of Tannehill's. He's producing despite having possibly the worst set of weapons at TE and WR in the entire league. On a top 8 team (in the league) Fasano is a TE2, Hartline and Bess are your 3 and 4. Instead those guys start for us. Tannehill's stat line doesnt look pretty and thats to be expected; some of its because of rookie mistakes and some of it just good defense that we couldnt overcome because of our teams shortcomings but Ryan Tannehill is having a very impressive rookie season.
He does throw too hard though, poor Armstrong dropped those passes. Once he learns to throw like Fiedler we should be fine.
I could just see Shou posting these nonsense questions, sitting back laughing and saying " I cant believe i got these fools AGAIN. HAHAHA ". Its obvious what hes doing ,lets not play into it.
I think I finally get what Shou is implying. Are we a potential playoff team with a veteran QB? Based on our running game and D, the answer is possibly. Since Matt Moore is the only option outside of developing Tannehill, the answer is no. If Garrard was healthy this could be debatable. Fact is Tannehill is and will continue to be the face of this franchise for the foreseeable future, regardless of where everyone on this issue stands.
LOL, so youre saying we need Noodle Arm Jay back? This reminds me of the excuses Bronco fans used to make for Elways receivers and why they dropped passes, except Elways passes actually did break fingers.
A WR at the pro level that can't catch a perfectly thrown slant pass with open space ahead of him, in stride, belongs in the Arena Football league, not the NFL. I don't give a rats *** what any scout says. I'll believe my own 30 years of watching football over that type of scout.
And not for nothing, I had us finishing with a top 5 draft pick regardless of who was starting, whether Tannehill, Moore or Garrard with Garrard being the best hope for immediate success. So as far as I am concerned anything better then that record wise is a successful season. Defensively we're ok, though our DB's and secondary pass rush leave something to be desired, but offensively our weapons are offensive. Outside of Bush and maybe Miller (down the road), I couldnt see our TE or either WR starting on a playoff team that actually wins a playoff game. Considering there have been 4 rookie QB's to win at least 10 games while starting all 16 in their rookie seasons in the last 50 years I honestly dont know why anyone would have expected anything different. Im happy we're keeping games close and competitive...that just means we need to learn how to win at this level.
Actually what I'm implying in this thread specifically is that there's a natural tendency as a fan of a team to hope its top-10 overall quarterback will come in and do what Robert Griffin III is doing in Washington. It's the fantasy the guy is going to buck the odds and come in and play very well, even as a rookie. What I see happening here is a quarterback who isn't doing that (which is normal), and is instead playing like a run of the mill rookie quarterback (e.g., Christian Ponder and Blaine Gabbert last year). But what I also see are attempts to preserve the fantasy by believing that he actually is playing like Robert Griffin III, and the only difference is that he's being held back by the ineptitude of the players around him. Just my opinion. Feel free to have your own, of course.
I'm judging Ireland based on Qb's who could of been taken before Tannehill, from the time I feel he got full control, which was last year, if it was me, Andy Dalton would of been our QB last year, this year, I would of attempted to get RG3, if I failed there, it would of been a Kuechly/ Russell Wilson combo.. Personal view... At the end of the year, I'll take a look at all those Qb's, the last two free agency periods, last two overall drafts, undrafted free agents, and see where their all at, and come up with an opinion whether he's got potential to keep as a GM. Tannehill is 24, he's been in this offense for 4 years, he's got a good running game, a good defense, and a pretty good oline, so far, I haven't seen what I fantasized about, but that could be due to his processor and how it could be slowing his body and instincts down..Just need to wait and see if that processor speeds up which allows him to relax and utilize his whole skillset and start play paying more instinctively.. It's really early, he could make a jump in play pretty soon, and put us into fantasyland..that's the fun..hopin that he's on the right track in his development..remember, he has "enormous upside".
I have yet to see one person compare Tannehill to RG3, who for the record, is 1-2. At this point you are just insulting the intelligence of everyone here by implying that people are comparing him to RG3. Please reference or show me one post where there was universal agreement that Tannehill was playing like RG3 or Luck. Secondly, no matter where you stand it doesn't matter 3 weeks in. Cam Newton was Marino, now he is Vince Young. Ponder was a flop, a dumb pick, now be looks like a decent QB that outperformed Aaron Rodgers agains the 49ers. I respect you a ton bro, but don't stoop this low to prove something you can't prove.
I suspect the average receiver can catch that kind of pass, probably 19 times out of every 20 on average, but with a QB who throws a receiver-friendly ball (e.g., Chad Pennington), that may jump up to 29 times out of every 30, and with a QB who throws a receiver-unfriendly ball, that may drop to 9 times out of every 10. This is all just theory of course, but I think it makes sense to consider that there's an interplay between the receiver's ability and how the ball is thrown.
On a board where a lot off people preferred Brandon Weeden, I think we did alright. To me it's not even close on those 2, not to mention in 2 of the 3 games Weeden has indirectly blamed someone other than himself. Ironically we have the better and more MATURE QB.
