(AP) -- Miami Dolphins cornerback Richard Marshall has been ruled out of Sunday's road game against the New York Jets with a back injury." Damn, it would be nice to have some good depth, however, I'm not sure he'd be getting his job back with the way Nolan has been playing and the chemistry thats developing. I forgot what he did to himself but it must of been bad. Wonder how ole R J Stanford is coming along..
Think he has a bad back, he's missed maybe a month or so has he not? RJ Stanford and Nolan Carroll..come on down.
Deej...personally, I hope he does get his job back. Having Carroll as our 3rd CB isn't bad, but I still think Marshall is a better option than Carroll...
I'm interested to see Nolan play this week, I'm just not sold that one is better than the other at this point but I'd like to Study Carroll's upside for a bit longer..I think he has more talent and speed, and I'm pretty comfortable saying he's pretty smart and has good work ethic..don't want to take reps away from a 25 year old trueblood when he's playing pretty good.
I think the secondary is one area Miami still has some work to do this offseason, especially if for some reason they can't get Sean Smith to re-sign. There's room for improvement at S opposite Reshad Jones, and I think you could certainly take a look at a few CBs like Dee Milliner, Jonathan Banks, Xavier Rhodes, Justin Gilbert, and maybe a guy like Jordan Poyer if you're looking to directly upgrade your slot CB. Of those guys, I really like Rhodes and Gilbert.
He got hurt in the Arizona game I believe. I don't recall him playing when I was at the game in Cincinnati, nor any game since then.
I haven't been a big fan of the Marshall signing. To me he wasn't playing very well before the injury and now he can't seem to get back on the playing field. I have felt all along that drafting a CB was the biggest need for the Dolphins and the trading of Davis and the play of Marshall, along with his injury, just makes the need for another top tier QB the teams top priority in the 2013 draft. The five million dollars Marshall is suppose to earn next year can certainly be used to help upgrade the secondary or another position in free agency. I don't see him as a member of the Dolphins in 2013.
That's why we need to let Nolan show us what he can do, and show it now,if he continues to progress we won't be having that 5 million dollar contract on our books.
Whether or not Carroll continues to develop is irrelevant when it comes to Marshall and his contract. The fact is that Marshall is not worth five million dollars. In fact I don't think he is worth more than the veterans minimum. Hopefully Carroll will continue to improve but even if he doesn't, the Dolphins just can't afford to pay Marshall that type of money next year. They could probably get a couple of CB's in free agency for less money than they would have to pay Marshall and they would probably be major upgrades over Marshall.
Youre right. He played vs NY and AZ but he was originally hurt vs Oakland. IIRC he got hurt by either Dansby or Burnett coming in to clean up a tackle and accidentally catching him instead.
Your making my case... It is very relevant..as in if Carroll becomes a legit # 2, you don't pay 5 mill to Marshall to play the three..
Marshall was the only player to get a significant contract in the offseason so Ireland probably likes him. He took Vontaes spot in camp so the coaches probably like him too. I'm not sure why you're down on him so much but I doubt your opinion is shared by the team.
I will refrain from making any comments about how we could use another legit starting CB now, and that one was traded away a week before the season. I'm not going to bring that up again.
I know how much you like PFF and they have him as the 84th ranked cornerback. Good for second-worst in the league.
i'm happy the way it has played out, given the play of our secondary with the fact that we get a 2nd round pick this coming april, i wouldn't change a thing
\ There have been several free agents over the last five years the Dolphins have paid a significant amount of money. While a few of those free agents have played decently, many have done nothing as Dolphins. I just think that Marshall really isn't very good and he certainly isn't worth the millions he will have to be paid if he remains a member of the team next year. As far as Ireland liking him. Ireland was also the GM who drafted Vontae Davis, with a first round draft pick a few years ago. I am sure Ireland liked him when he drafted him, but how did that work out for the Dolphins?
y My bad. Should have stated that it's based on passer rating allowed: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/10/25/snapshot-nfl-passer-rating-allowed-cornerbacks/ PFF's grades do favor players with more snaps right? I would think Marshall being injured and missing games would be to his detriment. Also blah blah something about sample size.
This is why I'd prefer to look at the past 3 seasons when comparing. That also favors Davis. IMO, any reasonable observer should be able to agree that the DB corps would be stronger today if Davis were a part of it.
Yes of course. It is so wonderful we should trade away some more good players for draft picks next year. It's not like this season's games mean a gawd damn thing anyway.
