http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/top_story.asp?contentID=5591 Miami Dolphins quarterback Cleo Lemon was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for games of December 13, 15-17. In last week’s 22-16 overtime victory over Baltimore at Dolphin Stadium, Lemon completed 23 of 39 passes for a career-high 315 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, in what was his first NFL win as a starting quarterback. His passer rating of 93.4 represents the second-highest figure of his career and his best as a starter. He also rushed for 12 yards on three carries. His 64-yard touchdown pass to Greg Camarillo on Miami’s first possession of the overtime period provided the Dolphins with the margin of victory. Lemon is the first Dolphin to be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week since Chris Chambers did it in week 13 of the 2005 season, for his 15-catch, 238-yard, 1-TD performance in a 24-23 win over Buffalo on December 4. Lemon is the first Dolphins quarterback to come away with the honor since Jay Fiedler in week 13 of the 2003 season, when he was 16 of 20 for 239 yards and three TDs in the Dolphins’ 40-21 Thanksgiving Day win at Dallas on November 27. In fact, since the award was first instituted in 1984, Lemon (1), Fiedler (1), Dan Marino (20) and Scott Mitchell (2) are the only Dolphins quarterbacks to earn the accolade. It's been a LONG TIME since a DOLPHINS player was named AFC Offensive Player Of The Week. CONGRATULATIONS to CLEO !
WTG Cleo, well deserved and congratulations . . . he definitely has the presence of a leader and I hope he can lead this team to 2 more wins this season
IMHO I don't look at it as the NFL is mocking us because it was the highest passing total of that week. This team hasn't had many good things happening for a long time. As a fan, it kind of gives you a lift !
just goes to prove that it's all about the sizzle and not at all about the steak in sports today. on the bright side, it will make it easier for lemon to get a nice contract in the offseason. somewhere else.
Nabo... I must say that I think you are being too hard on this kid... On a side note, your avatar is... well intimidating... I am afraid of clowns!!!
pennywise. i don't mean to be harsh...man, i wish to the heavens that this kid was everything he supposed to be; someone once described as being similar to elway, or something like that. but the only thing i've seen from him is bad throws, bad decisions...yes, he has a good arm. but so do a lot of qb's that wash out of the nfl. i just don't think he has "it", and i hate to see us tying up roster space - not to mention cap room, with the contract he's going to command - on a guy with no future, who is also not a proven veteran who can really manage a team on the field.
I'm in complete aggreement except for the contract demands. Personally I think he'll be back because he won't get anyone interested in giving him an opportunity at a starting position. We'll see exactly what NFL personnel guys think of Lemon as he hits FA this year.
Pretty sad when after 13 games we finally win one, our QB gets Player of the week, and all he gets is bashed. Good job Cleo! More than welcome to come back and be on a team I root for!
315 yards and a game winning td pass in overtime. Yeah, it was a hell of a game by Cleo. He deserves respect for the performance. Ironically, hes only a year older than Beck, so the big question of who our 'future' qb is looms even more.
Tell me about it . . . how can u bash Cleo after showing some true grit against the Ravens . . . one of the tougher defenses in the league . . . he really has stepped up this season and shown his abilities as a leader, and I would love for him to come back next year in camp as competition for our starting QB spot and/or backup. Sad thing is, if Beck puts up the same kind of game and gets the award . . . people are raving about him right now . . . sad but true. Cleo has hands down been the best QB in a Miami uniform this year . . . face it people, and give the kid his dues.
Sorry but I have higher expectations for the team I love. Cleo you sure can come back to man the backup role!
It was a hell of a game by Cleo. But just the fact that Brees had the same number of yards with a higher completion percentage and one more touchdown tells me Cleo got the pity vote...
You are absolutely right. Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints should have been the AFC Offensive player of the week!!
Yup just like those higher expectations on Sage and the team let him walk. Now he's enjoying good success over in Houston that Shaub better get over his injury woes and not let them continue or Sage could be a more permanent starter someday.
not really. Sage is a backup through and through. People put way to much stock in a backup who comes in and does well. Backups are supposed to be able to come in and do well in lieu of the starter because they know the system. An offense is supposed to work like a machine. When one cog falls out, you replace it, and it still works. The only difference is, eventually the backup is figured out, and doesnt have the talent/tools/intelligence/etc to excel from that point. Sage is doing well, but if he were to have become a starter, he'd be lost after 5 starts. Also, he has Andre Johnson. Which just makes everything really easy.
I'm sorry are Sage and Lemon the same QB's? I don't follow this argument. Let's follow it though. Baltimore let Lemon walk. He went on to have great success in NFL Europe..... nope he was demoted to practice squad QB San Diego let Lemon walk. He then went on to win the starting job in Miami and show he had the talent to start there....... nope, actually 2 seperate administrations passed Lemon over and gave up draft picks for 4 other QB's. How many stops and how many years in Proffessional football is it going to take for this blossoming? This dosen't even account for the fact that Sage was considered a decent prospect to begin with while Lemon was on all counts a crap shoot.
I was more commenting on the fact that Miami and it's fans have 0 patience. Sage probably would have won us 3 more games here. Not to mention he did have some ability to get it deep so we could have made more use of Ginn. Err Lemon was traded by San Diego against the advice of their head coach and put up year after year of great training camps and lets not forget Sage also has had 2 teams now let him go (for a 7th round pick to). Their careers are really quite similar.
so to clarify your point...you think sage would have won us 3 more games than lemon, yet you are trying to convince people to keep lemon???
I think he should finish the year and then lets see what the team can do. I doubt the team drafts another QB so Beck will be the man. I just want a solid veteran behind him in case Beck falls on his rear and maybe Cleo can be that solid vet. Of course if someone clearly better is out there then forget what I just said ;p If he puts together a string of 250+ yard games and learns to be more decisive on whether to run/throw (and for the love of god TUCK THAT BALL IN!) we might have a viable backup that Sage would have been this year.
I think they simply looked at who the guy was, on the other end of that 64 yard reception. "Greg who?" They looked at who his running back was, "Oh my "Gado" who? " They took the Ravens respectable defense, and their interest of losing to an 0-13 team into consideration, the fact Lemon tossed "0" ints over four quarters of play, and combined with the pressure of historic infamy staring down his neck, the honor was justified. aside from grilled ...didn't he adopt Ray Lucas?
Nabo, your posts are awsome, But: I see that clown in my nightmares, the same one with Cleo as our starting QB!!!
Sorry just noticed this post. He's not just doing well. He's got a 90QBR. Miami would flipping die for a guy to go through the season at a 90QBR.
How's it goin' Nabo? It's nice to see our team causing some buzz........ That is other than the buzz they've been causing me to nurse all season...
