He's a solid man to man corner but struggles in zone coverage from what I remember in Oakland. I haven't been keeping up with the Kansas City Chiefs other than starting any player that plays them in fantasy football... it seems like the majority of Chiefs fans are upset about it but I'm not sure if it's because Routt played solid in KC or because Pioli gave him a fairly big contract after letting Carr walk. After our secondary gave up a record setting day to Andrew Luck, I think we should at least take a look. Thoughts?
in light of the recent events (IR Marshall) I approve of this. I'll take him and his penalties. (this will come back to haunt me)
Probably not as likely now after signing CB Brandon McDonald off waivers. I would like to bring him in though.
Looking at him, his best years (and most activity) were from his days with the Browns.. I wonder if Coyle vouched for him?
It would be done pretty much simultaneously. I don't see why we cannot speculate considering we're supposedly one of the teams interested.
Wow I didn't know we signed McDonald. This is a guy who showed a lot of talent in Cleveland but I don't know what the hell happened after that. I remember watching McDonald get two INTS in a game where the Browns were being blown out. He made some incredible plays in that game despite the Browns getting wupped. Physically he's got the tools to play at a high level. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some pt in Miami.
Apparently the Dolphins are interested in Routt. I'm kind of unsure. He's a pretty solid player and a good replacement for Marshall, but Nolan Carroll is playing pretty well. Moving Jimmy Wilson to 4th corner would probably result in improved play short-term, but is the long-term experience more beneficial? Ireland has been kicking *** on late-round defensive backs between Chris Clemons, Reshad Jones, and Nolan Carroll, and I think Jimmy Wilson potentially is another guy who will be in that list. He's shown upside.
Routt has 2 int's this season and 12 for a career. He was very, very fast though I am not sure how much he still has in the tank. We have some pass happy teams upcoming and I am of the opinion, one can never have too many CB's. I would certainly want to do due diligence on him. We can move Wilson back to the S rotation where he belongs long term.
According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald we are out of the market for Routt. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/08/report-dolphins-out-on-routt/
The stuff we are reading suggests he is not a great fit for the scheme we run. Since he has underperformed his whole career, I guess I'm OK with us passing on him.
He's a runner, not a football player IMO. Lacks instincts and quality technique. Brandon McDonald has been a bit sloppy this year with his technique as well but he's shown in the past that he can make some plays.
Makes him fit right into our secondary though. B McDonald is not getting much love on the net, I'd almost prefer we dust of Oglesby or Agnew.
I don't mind the signing of McDonald so much. Considering what week the season is in, it's not bad. If they can just get him to play with his head straight, then maybe he makes some plays. I've watched him in Cleveland and Tampa.
