The Bears offense, and Jay Cutler, have been statistically worse this season with Brandon Marshall than they were last season without him.
My positives 1. Philbin sitting down Bush and Ritchie. For those who compared him to Cameron this is something he would never have done. I still remember Joey Porter refusing to leave the field for Wake and nothing happens 2. Daniel Thomas. Is he a starter. I still say no but his last couple of games show that at least he has something to offer 3. I know about Jakes penalty but I thought Longhad a bounce back game. We were down early in obvious passing downs and he played better 4. Say what you will but Hartline has thrived this year Thats about it. Surprised Fields had an off day for him and Carpenter got lucky as coach saved him a miss
Their ranking is lower. But their PPG and YPG are actually slightly higher than last year. There really hasn't been an appreciable difference with Marshall, but I'm not sure you can hold that against him.
That's true... and you know what else isn't a fact, I'd rather have Tannehill than Cutler as my quarterback. And I've been a pretty big fan of Cutler's, but he's inconsistent and he needs an offense to be functioning properly to be successful (ie, he's not elite). I'm not saying Tannehill is elite, but I've seen enough of Cutler to know he never will be.
Not true. They are 8th in PPG this year. They were 17th last year. They have a +109 Point Diff. this year. They had a +12 Point Diff. last year. They are also 7-2 this year. They were 8-8 last year. So it seems that the opposite is true.
Yeah, sure if you give the offense credit for the defensive TDs, then they look better. Every measure of passing game efficiency is worse.
So they didn't have defensive TD's last year? They are 7-2 and look to be a playoff team. If you are actually trying to argue that having the best receiver in the game this year, hurts their passing game, then good luck to you.
No idea. Its a flawed measure, so I would never use it. All I said was that they are statistically less-efficient than last season. You're free to draw your own conclusions of what that actually entails. ETA: Chicago had 7 defensive TDs last season. They have 8 already this year.
the main point remains. If you are arguing that having the best receiver in the NFL statistically is a detriment to their passing game, well needless to say, I disagree with you.
What statistics exactly? Nothing that measures efficiency says he is the best. His volume stats look great, mainly because he gets a boatload of targets. He gets something like 40% of his team's targets, which is absurd, especially considering his team is near the bottom of the league in passing efficiency. There is a reason the "Randy Ratio" offense never had lasting power.
Because certain WR's don't organically attract more targets than others......it's a meritocracy SB. Great WR's get targets. Some get more than others. Getting targeted A lot speaks well of you.
This logic suggests that a player can't be over-targeted. In the case of the Bears, this meritocracy hasn't resulted in a more efficient passing game.
stats are for fools… There is no way in the world that marshall is the best receiver in the NFL… CJ, Fitz, Reggie Wayne, R White, AJ Green just off the top of my head.
Whoah, gotta jump in here. 2nd in catches, 3rd in yards, tied for 2nd in TDs. I'm putting AJ Green and probably Reggie Wayne ahead of Marshall. Considering Calvin is on pace to break both his yards and catches high's, he would probably challenge Marshall as well. Regardless, 3rd or 4th best WR is very noteworthy.
I'm not the only one. Far from it. by any measure, 2 for 28 is a good game. He almost led the team in tackles BTW... I watch him with as critical an eye as anybody....he played well. Not great..not spectacular..but his charge was Britt and Washington, and neither did anything.
1. Why are you discussing the bears? 2. Statistics. Pah! What is the obsession with them? Look at the won-loss record. THAT is what matters. 3. All players are all part of a team. It is the team that wins games NOT one induvidual.
Seems like some people forget that Brandon himself wanted out and is a spoiled little child when he doesn't get his way. Wonder where those folks will be when he gets his year long suspension. Not a matter of 'if' in that case...With Marshall it's just a matter of when. Besides at the rate this team is going...#1 WR is far down the list compared to DB's, RB's and a competent OL.
http://phinphanatic.com/2012/11/12/dolphins-sean-smith-not-getting-it-done/ I totally agree, the last few weeks have been bad.
I dont want to have this debate again but....my problem was never with trading Marshall, it was more about the fact we did absolutely nothing to replace him. Instead, we just closed our eyes really tight and prayed Gates or Moore or Johnson or Naane or whoever would magically pan out.
