Yeah, you got me there. I'd call that the exception to the rule. And I think we can all agree Mark Sanchez isn't a franchise QB, right? TDs put 6 points on the board (7 with EP). INTs kill drives, take potential points off the board, and often result in points on the board for the other team. Those of you who don't think TD/INT ratio is a good indicator of QB play are kidding yourselves. The last time we've had QBs post > 1 TD/INT ratios were Matt Moore last year and Chad Pennington in 2008. Both won significantly more games than they lost.
Not strongly in disagreement with your overall premise (and I know the season Sanchez had in 2009 is an exception), but Matt Moore went 6-6 last year for the record. I agree with TD/INT ratio is a good indicator of QB play, but I also think it's not the only indicator, and just because you have a bad ratio means you're playing bad (or if you have a good ratio it means you're playing well for that matter). I see Tannehill make plenty of throws where the pass catcher doesn't bring it in, or can't make the play with the ball in his hands, whereas other QBs make the same throws that end up in TDs. Charles Clay actually made the TD happen in Indy, and Fasano did on I think Tannehill's 1st TD. But on the others I think most every one could have been made by most TEs/WRs in the league (only other one that was maybe close would have been Hartline's 80 yd TD). Tannehill has only had 3 bad games IMO, and in one I didn't think it was nearly as bad as the stats indicate (Houston). I'm not saying he's definitely a franchise QB, but I haven't seen anything yet that sways me to thinking he can't be one.
Right, I do think we generally agree. I'm not trying to say his TD/INT ratio means he is a bad quarterback or won't make it in the NFL. I'm just saying it's one area he really needs to improve on if he's going to be that guy.
I'll choose what my eyes see over statistics. You can sway statistics however you want, hell the two interceptions tonight were just Tannehill trying to make a play at the very end. **** happens especially as a rookie. I hope Philbin lets Tannehill loose the rest of the way, letting him learn from his mistakes.
How am I swaying statistics? 6 TDs/11 INTs. Now, if you want to talk about statistics, I could mention again how highly TD/INT ratio correlates with winning. But that would be redundant. For now I'm just continuing to track our young QB's TD/INT ratio. It's not looking good, but he's young. Don't kid yourself though. It's got to get better if he's going to be the guy.
11 Ints isn't even that bad for a rookie, but sh!t man, 6 TDs???? 6 Tds in 10 games??? Playing as many dog**** teams that we played? Its awful. Some of it is coaching and support...but in 10 games you gotta throw more than 6 damn td passes man. something is wrong here.
Agreed. I don't have a problem with the INT's. That's like 1 a game. Not bad for a rookie. But the lack of TDs is concerning a bit. I think the lack of a real red zone threat hurts him. Also, we had a ton of rushing TDs early on so that plays a part in it as well.
Our offense the past 10 quarters is simply on life support. I dont get it. Dont know what happened. What happened to the team that gashed the Cardinals and Rams. Again...10 offensive points against the Titans and Bills. Its mind boggling.
If he can make more throws like the touchdown to Bess, then he will throw more touchdowns. In the beginning of the season he wasn't able to make that throw.
And you know, that bruise was 4 games ago now. But all season long, RT refuses to tuck and run. A D1 wr, and he wont flee for the easy, cheapie first down scramble. Jake Locker and Fitzpatty looked like Randall friggin Cunningham...and we sit across the sideline and watch this kid refuse to tuck and run. He should be running a minimum of 5 times a game.
The running game went to **** and everything else followed suit. You can't have a rookie QB in 2nd and 3rd and long, drive in and drive out for 3 straight games and expect to be effective. Tannehill didn't throw a pick in 4 straight games when the running game was effective. It all starts with that. It has to get fixed.
7/12. Nota big difference in terms of the TD/INT ratio. But the 4th quarter comeback is great to see out of a rookie QB.
If Bess could keep his feet, it would be a 8/12, still scored on that drive though. Of course a penalty did make it so it wasn't 7/13, so, well whatever.
It is still concerning...he got bailed out on that roughing the passer call. He made two terrible, terrible throws yesterday (both while scrambling).
