Well the Colts had an A+ draft, which is what we need. Its not just Luck, they have a ton of young players who are making a difference.

Its hard to trust the Dolphins' organization though. Like, why wasn't Cameron Wake in on the Patriots' game sealing drive? He's one of the few game changers we have, maybe he forces a fumble or something. This lack of faith and trust in the coaches and front office is exactly why we dropped to worst in the NFL in attendance.

    Actually..they don't.

Most of the time, when a former OC gets a HC job..they call the plays.

I brought up Emery because he worked with Lovie before which obviously factored in to him accepting the job and the first year restrictions that came with it. the Bears chairman George Mccaskey publicly stated that Lovie staying or going will be Emery's call after 2012. and that's my point, as a new GM inheriting a coach, even if he's someone you've had success working with in the past (in our case, Russ Ball and Philbin), having that power to make a change is still a deal-breaker.

in January we could have a scenario where Stephen Ross is interviewing Ball and Russ asks him about how much power he'll be given. how Stephen Ross answers that question could be the difference between hiring him or not. if Ross says "you have to work with Philbin this year, but next year you get to decide his fate", there's a good chance he'll take the job.

but if Mr. Ross says "Joe Philbin will strictly be my call and my call only", Ball could shake our owner's hand and say "thanks, but no thanks."

ANd it'd be the right decision by Ball. No GM should accept a position where they will never have the ability to choose a coach... unless they work for Jerry Jones and the job is in title only to begin with.

I mean, if Ross just wants to hire a GM whose power is limited to player resignings, drafting, and FAs, then that's a different caliber of candidate, I'd think.

To tell the truth, I'd be fine with that.

The truth is you just don't know what a new GM will do and if he'll retain the current staff no matter how promising. Sometimes an allegiance else where is enough to boot a current HC who deserves to keep his job. Plus there's the very real human element of it all where the "control factor" kicks in and the GM wants a new HC just so he can put his own stamp on the team as well as the challenge involved. Let's face it. Doing nothing is boring. lol

Ok, off topic but the immature adult in me is chuckling right now. I'm watching local ABC news and there's a piece on land involving a local hospital (Dix Hospital).... and the anchorman innocently made a reference about "not getting a hand on Dix's acreage". lol. :chuckle:

So my question in the middle of this thread is: Am I the only immature idiot here who would find this amusing or would you guys chuckle, too?

Hartline first and foremost. If not, he'll be signed by New England to replace Wes Welker and he'll torch Miami for years to come. I'd take a long hard look at Martin at LT and see how he fares. If he's no worse than Jake Long, I let Long walk. A top flight WR, whether thru FA or Draft is a must, as well as another pass rusher to free up Cam. Secondary obviously needs help. I'd offer Bush a reasonable (whatever that means) deal, if he takes it fine, if not, no big loss. I wish Philbin would give Lamar Miller some time to see what he has. TE is another dead spot. There's so much work to be done it's frightening. But I'd start with Hartline, because as goofy as it sounds, he will come back to kill Miami. BB loves guys like him and they're gonna let Welker walk. As for the GM, I think he needs to go, but if he is fired, it needs to be for a bonafied star. You can't just make a chnage for change sake. Although watching Matt Ryan and Dez Bryant makes my head hurt.

you're completely right, but if Stephen Ross does end up firing Ireland in a month or so, he'll have nobody to blame but himself if his top 2 or 3 candidates for the job all decline the offer because he's trying to force Philbin on them, he put himself in this position by hiring a new coach last offseason before flushing away the last remaining piece of the Parcells regime.

Ross clearly has not gone about this whole process the right way, he tried to force a GM on Fisher, that obviously didn't work, he probably contacted Cowher's reps with the plan of hiring him to come in and work with Ireland, something that would have never happened no matter how much money he offered Cowher, and now he might be faced with the difficult task of forcing a coach on a new GM.

I like Philbin. but if we have to sacrifice him to the football gods to finally rid ourselves of Ireland, then so be it.

    1. It has to be a new GM. Without doubt.

    2. It is also, as noted, not a given Philbin would fired. No way that will happen. He has no talent at several key spots.

    3. The new GM has to be someone who fits with Philbin's system. I don't think Ireland is a good GM for accumulating talent that fits with Philbin's Green Bay system. I think a new GM has to understand the GB system and know how to draft speed on both sides of the ball.

    4. The free agent decisions are not as big as the draft; that said, Ireland has been so bad, almost any new GM could do better. All he has to do is sign one starter and it's 1000% better than this last year. But, it's the draft. With five selections in the first three rounds, this draft is Critical to do well. If we blow these opportunities, it will haunt this team for years to come, imo.

I don't think it was as much about forcing a GM on Fisher as it was about not giving Fisher as much control as he wanted. Fisher actually likes Ireland, so that wasn't the issue, not to mention Fisher was interested in Ireland's right hand man, Gaine, becoming StLouis's GM. It honestly wasn't about Ireland. It was just one of those things where owner/HC couldn't come to terms, likely b/c Ross didn't want to give a coach like Fisher so much control considering the style of football Ross wants to play. That combination was almost destined for a non handshake.

Ross wants exciting football, playmaking type stuff. For him to have such an endorsement of Ireland, then Jeff would most likely have to share enough of Ross's mentality to keep him, hence a reason to have a little more faith in 2013 FA & draft than we're giving.

    the poor house

sorry but i just dont see it i think there is too many Ireland apolgist and when you look at how physical the eagles and cowboys game was i say Dallas is doing things the right way and Dez, and the one cat who's name escapes and then Miles Austin , Demarco Murray and Whitten that is what a true offense should look like and this piss poor excuse of trading Marshall looks worse because he hasnt gotteninto any trouble since he left Miami . Plus if you let goof a playmaker shouldn't you replace him in the same season ?

This is inherently ridiculous and is a convenient way for Ireland non-supporters to discredit the other side's beliefs just b/c they don't coincide with their own, as no one here likely has a reason for allegiance or obligation toward the man. It's pretty childish and arrogant really. I didn't read the rest of your post following this statement, nor will I read any more of yours.

Yep, that is just crazy talk.

job #1 is prioritize our FA's we have what 5-6 starters up for FA and there is the normal roster turnover every offseason to boot.

Ireland isn't going anywhere. This team created two holes by getting rid of Marshall and Davis. I don't think these two decisions were made by a GM on a one year leash.
