RT. Kaepernick looks like a seagull lol and plus with all those tattoos he can't be a good person . . .
Straight up isn't really fair considering Tannehill is a rookie. Ckap is not. Truth be told, neither are proven. Obviously Ckap is playing better right now, so the answer is pretty obvious if "straight up" is the primary condition.
I'm gonna assume you're kidding. As for the choice, I was personally against drafting him. I liked Dalton a fair bit more and thought the hitch in his throwing motion would lead to a fair amount of picks. Him going to a quick WCO team and the sheer strength of his arm has made the hitch essentially meaningless. I'm not sure about who I'd take because I don't think we have the pieces for it to be a meaningful decision at this point.
haha come on man, but forreal I think RT will end up being a better pure pocket passer. I also think if given the opportunity RT can extend the play and also make more plays running the football just as well as Kaepernick. You started to see more of that the last few weeks, I think once he gets past this knee injury mentally and more comfortable behind center, he will start to take advantage of his athleticism.
Tannehill. He might have Kaepy on the bench in San Fran's offense with their great Oline, supportive run game, and upgraded receiving targets/TE.
Tannehill and it is not even close IMHO. Tannehill is going to be special, and people have to have a little more patience. He has poo to work with, and it is my belief you put him on the Colts or Redskins and people would be calling him ROY.
Tannehill. Kaepernick is getting the benefit of Harbaugh AKA the QB whisperer. Without Harbaugh I'm not convinced he's anything special.
Tannehill, and it isn't really close IMO... CKap runs faster. That's about it. And it's not like Tannehill is lacking athleticism...
It's close, but I can't ignore the huge differential in talent between the 2 teams, therefore giving the edge to RT. besides our 2 kickers and maybe returner, I can't really think of a position that we have that we are clearly better than what San Fran has. which doesn't bode well for this weekend.
I know DJ and I were very high on CKap ... but RT is our QB, so seems mute. To me what RT is NOT showing this year is his athleticism ... forget snaps and experience -- THAT is what is separating RT from the rest of this year's class. They are all using their athleticism and creating success. He doesn't need to 'run', but he can't just stand there like a statue ...
From a former English teacher who winces when seeing that, and several other such grammatical & spelling errors...... Thank you. My other favorite is 'passed' for 'past'.. The ball is 'passed' after the QB throws it, but when the whistle blows, the play is in the 'past.' Now, I know that typing is like a second language... but...... And for the record.. Yes, I did count off for spelling!
Tannehill and like others have said, its not close. I was never a Kaepernick fan and actually I think they made a mistake benching Smith for him. How do you bench someone with a 104 rating? I dont even like Alex Smith and for the life of me I dont know what Harbaugh is thinking. Kaepernick isnt even the best QB on his own team from everything I have watched. I know Smith is limited but so is Kaepernick. Tannehill is not limited at all outside of his inexperience. Upside is much higher and his ability to read the field is much better.
With as little experience Tanny has had at the QB position, its hard not to be very impressed with how he is doing now. Nothing is for sure, but in 2 years, Tanny could be making a push to be one of the leagues elite.....I hope anyways.
Can't. I am so tired of opening Tapatalk looking forward to some new Dolphons discussions and seeing Yhe Ireland Kiss of Death and Two Wide Receivers thread at the top that I have to start new threads just for variety. Lol.
Yeah...Tannehill by a mile over that guy. I like Shock G and I think he's got all the tools to be a good QB, but so does Ryan Tannehill. I think the difference betweent them is that Kap is a great athlete with a cannon arm and that is how he will get by in this league. Tannehill is a good athlete with a great arm but dude is going to be dropping science on the game as well in a couple of years. It goes way beyond physical abilities. Tannehill is going to be better at reading defenses and he's going to make the smarter descisions. If we take the the last two years of QB's and ranked them I have Tannehill in my top five. Luck Griffin Cam Newton Dalton Tannehill/Russell Wilson. I know thats bold of me to choose over Russell Wilson but lets give Tannehill Sidney Rice, Golden Tate, and a Marshawn Lynch to play with and see if he does any better.
I actually like both Smith and Kaepernick, but I think benching Smith was borderline insane. Smith has been playing very well for the past two seasons, with the exception of the one game against the Giants. The team was 19-5-1 with smith as the starter the last 2 seasons. In the game and a half before the benching, he was 25/27 for 304 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INTs and a max passer rating. It literally isn't possible to play much better than that. The knock that he is so "limited" is nonsense -- he has all the tools needed and when they got into a shootout against an elite QB in the playoffs last year he stepped up and got the job done.
Interesting. I mean Alex Smith WAS a number one pick, so he has skills and talent. I think Harbaugh believes he himself is the reason QBs play better... So why can he do with a guy with a cannon arm and great running ability? I think he believes in his own coaching ability to turn Kaepernick into a world-beater.
Honestly I am on the side of Jon Martin being at least decent with some more strength behind him. I like his quickness and foot speed.
Its not nonsense that hes limited. SF tailors their scheme to fit him because he cannot make all the throws and he cannot put a team on his back as an elite (top 5) QB or even top 15 QB. He is to the Niners what a slightly better Jay Fiedler was to Miami. Still hes their best bet to do anything. The biggest flaw with Alex is that he wilts at times. Take the NFC Championship game last year...The 49ers were up 14-10 for almost a full quarter and Smith couldnt do anything vs a mediocre NYG back 7. They went in to a complete shell game with minimal passing and the ones they did throw were short, low risk throws. They dont trust him and they dont believe in him. And they play Kaepernick the same way. Smith was a #1 in a year where you had to reach if you wanted a QB #1. Everyone knew he was a risk coming out of an Urban Meyer offense that featured very few elements of a pro style system. Teams liked him more then Rodgers because Rodgers coach, Jeff Tedford had a reputation of producing mediocre pro QB's in particular they focused on the footwork of Tedford's QB's (Kyle Boller comes to mind)
well said Boik. and to further the sentiment. Alex Smith may have won a shootout vs an elite QB (Brees), but the difference is, New Orleans defense stunk last season (relative to their superbowl team) and Brees was playing lights out vs the 49ers top rated defense. Harbaugh knows this and he knows that Smith has struggled against really good defenses (see Giants x2), that's why he's taking the risk on Cap hoping the ceiling is high enough to beat a team like the Giants in the playoffs - a team with a really good QB and pass-rush
I don't agree that he can't make all the throws. At all. As for carrying a team on its back, he really hasn't been asked to do that much. He's on a team with a good runnign game and a good defense that is designed to not have a QB carry the team on his back. And he's done a very good job of giving them exactly what they need. Kaepernick certainly hasn't shown that he can carry a team on his back in the NFL, especially against a good defense. In the AFC Championship game, Smith posted a 97.6 passer rating. I seem to recall a few other pretty good QBs who also failed to put their team on their back against the Giants and beat them. One of those guys (Aaron Rodgers) was just completing the greatest season a QB has had in NFL history and posted a 78.5 rating against the Giants in a first-round loss. The other guy (Tom Brady) is arguably the greatest QB of all-time (I don't think so, but its certainly arguable) and also posted a lower passer rating than Smith did against the Giants on the NFL's biggest stage. Smith threw as many TD passes against the Giants as Rodgers or Brady and scored as many points as Brady and just 3 fewer than Rodgers (with a more explosive offensive supporting cast).
Pretty pointless question imo. Not disrespecting the post but come on! Support Tanny! He's a rookie for crips sake! I don't do stats as much as some. Experience comes by learning from mistakes. He hasn't made many. I hope the average Phins fan knows what is protecting him and what he's got to hand off and pass to. Draft and Free Agency will see Offense getting a serious donor imput.
Agreeed. Harbaugh took a bit of a downgrade in my eyes when he benched Smith for Kaepernick. To me, that's a pretty big chink in his coaching armor. As for the OP's question, Tannehill, easily.
If I match up their predraft evaluations, considering the skillsets, the whole package, intangibles, intellect, ceiling, and most importantly, play making abilities, I would go Kaepernik based on a higher ceiling athletically, which fit the kind of offense I wanted to evolve into, and the inherent gene of making plays when things break down..I coveted that skill. I don't proclaim to know who will be better at this point, Tannehill from a protected pocket could be very good as well, which is different then what I wanted to do schematically.. Right now, I just want to give Tannehill some weapons, go early in the draft for a couple of studs, get him the blanket that will be Tyler Eiffert, get him a vet that can help him on the field like Greg Jennings, get him a dynamic speed player like Tavon Austin, give him some consistency in the run game like Step Taylor, and lets see what this kids arm can do.
