Gadsden said the need for speed was exemplified by a play last month in Buffalo.

“It was third-and-8, and Hartline, Bess and (tight end Anthony) Fasano all went out and stopped at 8 yards and the quarterback took a three-step drop. That’s too easy for the defense.

“Then, at San Francisco, it’s fourth-and-10 and you’re throwing to Marlon Moore. I don’t blame him, but you really want to be throwing to a guy with six catches all season on a crucial fourth-and-10?”

I like these stories where the ex-players speak simply because I like when they take such a continued interest in the team.

I don't find Mike Wallace to be the answer. Bowe is more well rounded but has a history of unappealing work ethic.

we need to add more than just one guy, even if we sign Wallace or Bowe. we need to bring in multiple receivers, and that includes TE, the entire group needs to be significantly upgraded.

So it's settled. Bowe at split end, Wallace at flanker, Jennings in the slot, and Cook at TE..... all 4 for the price of Calvin Johnson. :shifty:

and guard, OT, corner (two if Sean Smith walks), pass rusher, maybe even FS etc....

lol sheeesh....you know the 4 straight losing seasons wouldn't bug me as much IF we still didn't have so many gaping holes up and down the roster 5 years after a 1 win season.

I think what we're seeing is a staff dedicated to playing the system, regardless if all the players don't fit that system. I think they are doing that because Tannehill does fit the system and it would be a disservice to his development to change that system because the pieces aren't in place yet. Tannehill is THE most important person on the field...more important than our record this year.

I promise we are really, really close.

We don't have as many "holes" as you think. Can't have Pro Bowlers at every position. Most great teams operate with some players who could use replacing in an ideal world. We have some positions that could use some upgrading, but there's only 1 gaping hole, and that's at receiver.

    There is that 5% Deej.

I wonder if he meant inexperience at Wr or Qb?

And I differ from your view, would love to have Reggie Bush back in the fold, think he is a playmaker and you try not to lose those guys for no or little compensation.

What I can't imagine is having that passion for the team, and watching its games while no longer having the ability to get out there and help it like they once did. That has to drive them crazy.

I mean we feel helpless to do anything to help the team as we watch it. Imagine having been a player who once helped the team, still loving the team, watching its games, and being unable to do what you once did for it.

    Two wide receivers..

    One tight end..

    One running back.

    One outside linebacker/ end

    One corner.

    One safety..

I would consider that a lot of holes.

Are those really all holes? I mean holes aren't about not having a super star player at a given position but not having a decent player at the position. We also don't need 2 WRs.

I loved OG! I don;t know how we are going to address WR this off-season. I have no faith in walking away with the answers in this draft. If Irish is still here in April, he may have the fortune to draft an elite pass rusher. There are some day 1 studs floating about the front 7, and that has been his "thing."

But he seems to cave in to pressure. Marhsall, Reggie, Philbin, Ocho, Vontae...all decisions I think were forced on him, both in cuts and signings. We needed to lose to the Jags, and I'm simply rooting for us to be in position to get a game changer. I just don't see how we are going to add weapons though. I hope there is a blue chipper there at our second, and we jump on it. But in a very talented draft class, I hope we don't force picks by position need.

I think holes are about getting the unit to play at a high level versus the current inferior level.

We have a hole at WR. We need a guy who can draw the double. For all the stats we talk about Hartline vs Marshall, we need to remember that no team is doubling any of our WR this year, like they did last year. No one is helping over the top, and it makes us vulnerable. It makes it harder for RT. With our pass pro, which is good, imagine RT with a guy freeing up Bess and Hartline to make big chunk plays. Or a guy making big plays when not drawing the double. Imagine how good that would make our rushing game? We cannot jump to being the PAckers or PAtriots offense next year, but we can make a big leap if we fill needs wisely.

We have a hole at TE. Fasano, for each miracle catch, is way too inconsistent. But Fasano would be a GREAT 1st or 2nd TE in a tandem. We need that Henderson prototype TE. A poor man's Henderson is more realistic. Egnew, to still not be playing, must be a lost cause. Its do or die for him this offseason, and I don't trust him as a solution going into the draft. No excuse to not be playing right now, unless he is just terrible.

Safety scares me but as of now its not a hole. It scares me because I don't know if Clemons and Jones are going to play like they did this year again. And we need depth behind them. We def have a hole at CB. Sean Smith needs to be our 2nd best CB. Someone needs to keep him accountable and pushing his game to the next level. He is too inconsistent and immature otherwise, but the talent is there. Carrol and Wilson is QUALITY depth. Richard Marshall is running a multi-million dollar ponzi scheme on the NFL, team by team.

And we have a hole lacking a play maker in the front 7. Be it a DE or LB. Cam Wake is the only one consistently awesome. You need that compliment to jump to the next level. To get off the field on 3rd downs, to close games. Those guys are there in this draft, I hope we can get one.

We have a good defense so I wouldn't qualify it has having a bunch of holes IMO.
Tight end could use upgrading. Egnew's development or lack there of determines whether or not it's a hole.
Running back could be upgraded but it's not a dire need. Plenty of teams have won games with less. A better receiver corps coupled with Tannehill's development should make the run game more effective when there's no longer a saturated box for our backs to constantly deal with.
WR is a hole, a big hole. Other than that I think we're OK enough to go BPA in the draft and add a few upgrades in FA. To me, a glaring hole means "We're screwed if we don't get a replacement".

Bit of an odd headline - sights "lack of experience" but then addresses a) lack of speed (clearly a problem) and b) critiques initially 3 receivers who have far and away enough experience - Bess, Hartline & Fasano.

We also have potential replacements on the team.

Two wide receivers - Could be Jeff Fuller and Richard Mathews

One tight End - Could be Egnew

One Runningback - Could be Lamar Miller, Thigpen, or Jonas Gray

One Outside Linebacker/End - Chance it could be Kaddu or Vernon or even Shelby

One Corner - Well maybe not this one. Carroll could improve, stranger things have happened

One Safety - Kelcie McCray! Well very small chance of that.

But still, there is a chance that all holes are filled with younger player stepping up. That is generally how good teams are built. Young players step up.

We need another WR, but we don't need the kind you're talking about. Sure, it would be great, but we don't need it. If we had a Bess or Hartline clone so there'd be 3 viable options on the field at a time we'd be in the playoffs. TE isn't a need, OL is. Fasano wasn't inconsistent, he was a lineman who occasionally caught passes. If the oline didn't need help from the TE and could be utilized more catching the ball, we'd have been in the playoffs.

If our offense improves a little, our defense is fine.

Yeah, and the jets were in the playoff hunt this year too. We're still bad. And we need a WR who can draw the double, not just just another slow possession WR. I think a TE who is a receiving threat is a need. Our defense is not fine the way it is. I mean, it's fine to keep hovering around mediocre.
