He's a relatively plugged in guy around draft time.

    http://www.jsonline.com/sports/an-early-look-at-the-2013-nfl-draft-m083rbm-184579581.html

IMO, this is your typical "He's a white guy = effort guy" comment. I tell you though, if scouts want to badmouth him, do so. Let him fall to the middle part of the first round. This guy and Ezekial Ansah are two of the smarter defensive linemen that I've watched film on.

It reminds me how the "lack of football intelligence" usually gets tacked on to black QB at times.

IMO, this particular instance reminds of Toby Gerhart, who I literally said would have been a 1st round pick if he was black. It just seems like white players don't get that much respect at running back or wide receiver (flanker/split end)

I disagree about the receiver group as a whole, do agree that there aren't any clear cut guys that are sure fire high #1's, but think the class has a lot of depth..Robert woods, Cordarelle Patterson, Justin Hunter, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Terrance Williams, D hopkins, all solid talent with upside..

Justin Hunter and Marquess Wilson scare me, their bodies scare me, their injuries scare me, and when it comes to Wilson, his character does alongside his lack of physicality and strength.

    Cobi Hamilton..Quinton Patton..D Rodgers...Ryan Swope..players with talent and upside..

It's early in the process, but Allen for me is still the guy..overall best receiver, best size/ hands ratio, really like his hands, some ability after the catch, solid late 1st rounder.

My fiance is a Vol's fan, so I saw a lot of Tenn's games (mostly internet streams). Hunter had a habit of dropping balls, imo, when he worried about getting hit, his team-mate Cordarrelle Patterson had the better hands, stronger, and has the feet to return kickoffs and punts.

On another note, saw the Belk Bowl last night. There's a TE, Travis Kelce, 6-5 260, former HS qd, looked natural catching the ball, willing blocker and with really good speed. With less than a minute left in the game, he caught about a 24 yd pass and ran 59 yds for a td in the last minute of the game, not even close to getting caught from behind by the Duke safety.

    Some statements:

    1. "There's not a senior in the class you feel comfortable even drafting in the first round."
Comment: This is actually a true statement, but only just. The best of the group is Terrance Williams and he's a borderline 1st rounder at best. He's a true vertical threat and combines nice height and frame with great speed, pretty good hands, pretty good run after catch, and the ability to create separation. He would be a sure 1st rounder if not for some body catching at times (which Golden Tate and Roddy White were also guilty of coming out) and some questions about strength at the point of the catch. The guy has 97 catches for 1832 yards and 12 TDs though. If at 6'2" and 205 lbs and running in the low 4.4's you can't call an 1800 yard, 12 TD guy a borderline 1st rounder then you'd better have some good reasons. And after Terrance Williams, there is Quinton Patton, who has 1400 yards and 13 TDs, including a 230 yard, 4 TD performance against one of the best teams in the country. The tougher the game, the tougher the coverage, the more he seemed to elevate his level of play. He torched Terry Hawthorne, incinerated the Texas A&M secondary, gave Will Davis of Utah State all he could handle, and went off for 125 and 2 TDs against No. 24 San Jose State. This is another guy at 6'2" and 200 lbs running in the low 4.4's (claims his last campus 40 was a 4.42), with as good run after catch as he has...what is there to complain about here? Then you have Tavon Austin and if you consider him a little enigmatic then I understand but one thing you know is that if you get the ball in his hands, he is absolutely electric. He is another nice prospect, and he runs in the 4.3's according to his last campus testing. After that, I like Markus Wheaton as a big time deep threat, Connor Vernon as a solid contributor, and both Ryan Swope and Corey Fuller as slot players...with Fuller having significant upside to be more than that.

    2. "It's a bad group all around."
Comment: In my opinion, either this statement takes no account of the juniors (which would seem to be contradictory since below there is talk of Justin Hunter) or it's a patently false statement. There are actually a fair few receivers set to be in this class that have a strong chance of success. They include seniors like Terrance Williams, Quinton Patton and Tavon Austin, but also juniors like Stedman Bailey, Keenan Allen, Cordarrelle Patterson, Justin Hunter, DeAndre Hopkins, Robert Woods and Marquess Wilson. Some of those might stay in school after all, but it's still a pretty fat neck of the Draft. You also have a Da'Rick Rogers who will clearly fall for attitude reasons but I'm not sure anyone would be shocked if he comes out as productive as Mike Williams of Tampa Bay or Greg Little of Cleveland.

    3. "Werner is a try-hard, good football player. Nothing special."
Comment: At this point I think the scouts are already just plain lying to disguise what they really think. If Bjoern Werner were black, he would be roasted for lack of motor. That's just the truth. I'm not trying to pull any cards out of the deck here, I'm just speaking pure truth. You don't watch Bjoern Werner make constant decisions on the field to pull up because he thinks the action is too far away from him (when in many situations it really isn't) and come away saying oh he's just a "try-hard" player. This is actually the single biggest problem with his game. He'll not take plays off, but he's not playing snap-to-whistle either.

    4. "Eifert is probably the top kid but he's not an all-around guy. I don't know how much he really likes football. I think he does it because it's something he's good at. He'd be more happy being a wide receiver."
Comment: I'm not in position to know that this is a false statement. But it nonetheless strikes me as complete bull ****. Sometimes you wonder if these scouts just say stuff because they know it'll be printed and their names will never be attributed to it. They're like kids with magnifying glasses hovering above ant hills.

    5. "Dysert can make all the throws and is a pretty smart kid. But he's a little goofy just watching his mannerisms. He's a long-haired, almost looks like a skateboarder kind of guy."
Comment: See above comment. Does anyone really think this scout will put that in the evaluation he files to his boss the General Manager? No? Kthx.

    6. "Best thing (Dion) Jordan does is rush the passer,"
Comment: Again I must question whether this scout is serious or is just tossing lies out there for the hell of it. Probably the biggest question concerning Dion Jordan is whether he can consistently rush the passer at the next level. He's actually already a very tough run defender as a 3-4 OLB.

    7. "As a freshman and sophomore, you saw a lot of signs of dominance. I don't see how (William Gholston) gets out of the first round because he's just so big."
Comment: Sensing a theme? The theme smells like the inside of a barn.

    8. "As a player, (Jarvis) Jones is really, really raw, but he's so athletic as a rusher. He just wins because he's a great athlete. He plays a million miles an hour. Little more athletic than (Denver's) Von Miller even."
Comment: I sense more barn smell.

Travis Kelce has been among my favorite TEs in the class along with Tyler Eifert, Joseph Fauria, Chris Gragg, Justice Cunningham and Phil Lutzenkirchen.

Thats the same impression I got watching Patterson and Hunter. Patterson's been on my radar for a while now since we nee height at the position as well as talent.

I also think the DE everyone is overlooking is Sam Montgomery who had a strong year just 1 year removed from ACL surgery. Usually a player doesnt fully make it back til year two and so I suspect he will shoot up some combine boards in a few months and go from a mid 1st to a top 10 guy. I hope hes on our radar because I think hes got a chance to be a good one in the same way I thought Whitney Mercilus, Aldon Smith and JPP were gonna be good the last few years. You cant ever have too many pass rushers.

Sam Montgomery reminds me of a poor man's Ray Edwards.

I have no interest. I'm overlooking him for a reason.

Huge fan of McGinn and he's been doing these articles for years. If you look back at them though, it's a lot like the draft advisory board - they downgrade everyone.

    Yup.

And I think they say things that essentially are just kids kicking an ant hill to see them all scurry.

Btw, how do I get rid of all the pictures at the bottom of everyone's posts. They're all very lovely I'm sure but still.......scrolling down on an iPad is a pain when half of the page is made up of pictures of Kenny Loggins #footlose

I think another issue with the Wr prospects is the dumbing down of the college game means Wr's have to have to be evaluated more closely on their ability to learn the way Qb's are currently rated.

Unless they are just physical beats like Green or Megatron, Wr's in the NFL have to be able to sight adjust extremely rapidly and that is as important as their 3 cone and 40 times imo.
