This all sounds so great..Thank you Mr. Ross...right?, am I missing anything here that this guy is not trying to do for us, our team, our city.. I think the soccer is very smart..this city and a stadium with atmoshere can hang with World Cup soccer.. I love the comments about the ideas to get people to a stadium, " to be together"...."to be on top of the action".." To create a unique experience unlike any other" Only thing I would love to know is how big a reconfiguration are we talking about, I keep seeing the little section of rows extend out from the bottom on the video, also hearing about "now that the dugouts can be replaced we can add those seats".. I'm very grateful for this owner hearing these things, especially about his commitment to our team and our city's culture. I would like to hear some people's opinion on the taxes stuff, is that different than what some were giving him sh&$ about?, has that changed now with the Tallahassee thing?, is it a lot better? He promises to pay the majority, is this not fair from our owner?, and shouldn't we be very happy with that vision in that 5 min video? I'm happy as hell right now..we might actually have a cool stadium guys, something we can be proud of, a place where we all can be engaged into the game for three hours, and leave the egos at the door, and just lose ourselves into the game.. HELL YES!!!!!!!
Well DJ I sure would like the county to pay for renovations to my house too. Start with the bathrooms which haven't been redone since it was built in 1954. But I own it, and its my property. I have to pay for those renovations. Ross should pay for his own renovations. It will benefit him the most, not the county citizens. To all those who supported the GOP and their anti-tax, anti-welfare and anti-helpthepoor stances, to turn around and support this is hypocritical to say the least. SAY NO TO CORPORATE WELFARE. If we can't afford to help single mothers, working two jobs with mouths to feed, we don't need to be spending money on billionaires playtoys.
How the fu&$ does this thread only have 4 posts....wtf is going on with this fanbase. Maybe people can't watch the video from the link, this is an awesome interview..does anyone know how to imbed it, and repost it in another thread, so we can get some positive support and enthusiasm going on?
Does a new state of the art stadium, if done correctly, not affect the city's economy? Of course, the city would have to be moronic not to take the deal imo.
I read the article the first time and thought the video was the CG fly-thru of the renovation we all saw before.
Ross can get the NFL to help out. He can secure loans. He doesn't need to take money away from police, firemen, and teachers to get his renovations done.
I was just pointing out your analogy was horrible. Let's also stop pretending that money will go to police, firemen, and teachers if it doesn't go to the stadium, as if there's one pile of money and its an "either/or" scenario. There are plenty of arguments against using public money, so far these two are not legit ones......sooooooooo congrats?
It would be helpful to read and quote the article: Basically, the NFL would reduce the amount of money that comes out of Ross' pocket, rather than reduce the amount of money that comes out of the taxpayer's pocket.
See, for me it gets a little hazy when they bring up this too: That seems to imply there's a possibility Ross can put up his portion ($201 million) and the rest could be an NFL loan.
Mathematically, it does imply exactly that. But what's being discussed in the article is an offsetting of Ross' investment, rather than a replacement of Miami-Dade's proposed funding.
If I read it correctly, it also states that money from the private funds, or tax dollars has to be aquired first.
Correct. That's why it's just an offset of Ross' investment; Miami-Dade still has to vote to give public money, then the NFL might chip in.
Yes... but this is going to be one of the reasons why they are only asking for less than 50% of the money needed for the renovations. If the NFL wasn't willing to help at all, they'd have to ask from more from the taxpayers. While the article says that the amount of money has not been determined yet (aka declared publicly), I am sure that they have already got a pretty close figure as to what they should expect to work with from the NFL... and then built their proposal around that. So... it is essentially reducing the amount of money coming out of the tax payers pockets. It's just not reducing the already proposed number.
Everything is preliminary Deej, sounds like there are 3 components, the county commission voted in favor of as long as no taxes on locals are raised, the NFL is offering a pot of money and Ross is offering a pot of money I'm somewhat surprised there has been no mention of self financing bonds being used ie, property taxes on the stadium pays off the bonds.
It seems like the most obvious thing to do, its bizarre it hasn't happened yet when you think about the population.
