Who has it better than us?, in terms of cap room combined with draft picks, also, throw in that were the 2nd youngest team in the NFL.. 45 mill to spend, and 5 of the first 82 picks in the draft..combined I'm not sure there is a more enviable position to be in, especially this season with the cap being flat, and the draft setting up for our needs.. We also happened to develop an extremely raw QB and came out alive..
I agree 100%, I did not understand the other thread of it starting off bad. We are in great position to get playmakers and build this team and play at a level we have not reached in over a decade.
I agree, we have an opportunity this season to really right the ship. It should be exciting to say the least. That being said, sorry, I just can't resist:
It's about the combination of two vehicles to aquire players..that whole 5 in the first 82 is sweet and means if we do this right, with free agent money and hi draft picks, we can add a LOT of talent to this team.
Guys when are we gonna put into some perspective that we are the 2nd youngest football team in the NFL.. I think when the season starts we might be the youngest...lets go balls deep in youth baby.
Deej, I'm seriously at the "**** you pay me" stage. Heard this "believe" stuff before, Ireland had best have the best offseason in NFL history
I really do want to be optimistic Deej, seriously, however some of the noises I'm hearing sound like "Rebuilding" Ross talking about "long term vision" the statement "we won't overpay for the stadium referendum" "Look at all of our draft picks!!!" Yeah, look at the last 4 yrs of them, as Sect pointed out we may have 1 player left from 08/09 Etc etc,
A poor musician can ruin a melody even with great instruments. Here's to hoping the balding ginger, rights the ship.
We're not like the Patriots who win and still have a lot of cap space though. We have a lot of cap space because we've been a mediocre team and a lot of the contributors to mediocrity are coming off the books.
I know bro, I battle it myself, but we are the 2nd youngest team in the league who has 45 mill in cap space and 5 picks in the first 82..lol...that's pretty cool no?
Deej, who made us the "second youngest team in the league"? We've been that, or near that, for years now. Here is an example, who do you think will lose more Starters via FA/releases this offseason, the Dolphins or the Jest?
It would be unless you have Jeffy in charge. Then it just deflates any good feelings. Actually this could be even worse. He's got more to **** up than ever before. If he craps the bed this year, we're in for some very rough times.
Exactly. Young has gotten us exactly where DJ ? I'll take veteran leadership at the right price over prospects.
Sort of, you do need a mix in the cap era, the thing is I used to buy into the "youngest/second youngest/third youngest" team in the league stuff meaning that we would improve the next year..we never have. INOW, it means nothing, this is why I'm in "**** you pay me" mode
I honestly don't know..probably us, but do you know how many of those that will depart were Parcells picks?
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/21676714/jets-cowboys-among-many-teams-in-sticky-cap-quandaries I highly recommend reading this article, it will make you feel better..
The Jets, most likely, if you want to be honest. The only way they don't is because they can't cut the ****ty players they have Letting FA guys walk is something some of the best teams do, simply put. We have no idea what Miami is planning with regards to their free agents nor do we have any idea what this team's overall plan is. It's too early to start attacking this front office for not re-signing guys. Still quite some time til F/A. No point getting excited until the free agency period starts. That's when we'll see the tone of this front office.
This offseason is off to a great start because for the first time in a long time the vast majority of us aren't clamoring for a QB.
If Ireland had a good record of signing quality free agents and selecting talented players in the second and third rounds, I might agree with you. Unfortunately he doesn't, and that is the main reason the Dolphins are coming off four sub 500 seasons. Having a lot of cap space and five draft picks in the first 82 picks only makes a difference, if the GM making those picks and signing those free agents knows what he is doing.
Ouch. Some people here are complaining that we are loosing starters with one breath, and before this were complaining that our starters weren't worth a box of hair. It looks like any angle to bash the GM/Coach, that's all. We ahve drafted guys to replace most of these starters. Some played (Miller), some didn't (Egnew). We don't really know what the coaches are doing with them or why they didn't play. Alot of the Internet head coaches on here say it was because this guy wasn't any good, dumb, or we wasted a pick. The truth is no-ones knows. We'll see what happens. Relax already. Stop the gloom and doom before anything even happens.
It was just a joke to DJ's comment that we should "go balls deep in youth" Probably should have bolded that part.
I would feel much better about this offseason if Ireland claimed Knox, or at least signed him to a 1 yr deal Not sure if he will even play again, however if he does that is one explosive player available for cheap and looking for work
What if...Parcells was really in charge of final decisions, and this is really his third year as top dog.?..maybe that's why we're the youngest, he doesn't care about the guys that Parcells drafted and is not attached..idk.
Then tough luck for him for being so closely associated with Parcells, a new broom sweeps clean so to speak Deej.
