Will there be another event for Sony to showcase the PS4? Seems like today was just a sneak peek but nothing big.
That's pretty cool to me. I'd like to be able to watch my friends play Madden or FIFA online while I eat pizza or something.
I liked it. It is going to take a lot to be blown away in today's age. I was sold by the ability to turn it "off" and then turn it right back on. Plus the ability to download stuff while playing. I know the XBOX will most likely have the second feature. I thought there were too many game experiences. I almost wish there were more tech demos. Seeing Square Enix show something I have seen months ago just doesn't excite me. Show me physics, show me water, show me an AI that does something while there are physics. Maybe it is the tech nerd in me.
For better or worse I'm married to the Sony Platform. Went PS3 last round, will probably go PS4 unless MS BLOWS ME AWAY. But that would suck with all the digital games I've invested in. I'm curious to see how they're going to handle Old-Gen games though. I know they said streaming PS1,2, and 3 Games, but I want to know more about it. Is there a cost? Is it literally streaming, or can I DL it from the digital store? What of the PS3 titles that I bought from the PS Store? Can I DL them, or will I need to stream them too? et.c etc. etc.
E3, Gamescom, TGS… You'll pay a fee, either to rent or buy, the ability to stream the game over the Interwebs from Sony's servers. You're not going to be able to download to your PS4 because the system architecture is completely different. The only way to run a PS3 game natively on a PS4 would be through emulation, and frankly there is no device powerful enough to emulate a PS3 at a consistent 30FPS yet. Sony is investing a hell of a lot of money in the infrastructure needed to support this sort of service. Better upgrade your Internet connection speed…
Square Enix gave a generic: "We are working on a Final fantasy game for the PS4 you guys" Hooray? Also new Infamous Basically this felt like an E3 teaser.
If anyone's interested in some basic tech speak about the console's specs, Anand has you covered. "GCN" is "Graphics Core Next", which is the current GPU architecture AMD is using in the Radeon 7000 series, their current product line. I'm hoping the hard drive is still user-replaceable. By the time this thing comes out, SSDs will have dropped another 20% in price.
Figures, and I don't like it. My building is old, internet is slower. I hate having to rely on streaming to services. I want to play my games offline if I wish. DL to my drive, and play. That's the only reason I use the Sony Store right now. Guess i"ll just have to keep the PS3 in good order.
Maybe I am just an "old school guy" at the age of 24 but I don't feel like they maxed out the graphics or anything on the PS3 yet and this move is specifically to make money. My favorite system is still the PS2. I think that was probably the best console ever made (slightly ahead of SNES, NES, and N64). I feel the games for the PS3 have gotten progressively worse. I swear every year I buy NCAA hoping that it is like the old PS2 versions and get disappointed every time. Don't even get me started on Madden, besides gameplay that games gets worse and worse every year. I had enough of it when they took the fantasy draft out of the off-line version. I hate getting nickeled and dimed by EA. I swear they take something out of the game and then "re-introduce" it the following year like it is some new big thing. Same thing with COD.... COD Modern Warfare 4 was the best game made and they have gotten progressively worse.
I have a backwards compatible (PS1/2) first gen PS3 I can sell you if you're interested. This isn't an issue of streaming versus offline, it's an issue of inventing a solution to a problem that normally wouldn't have said solution. The current generation maxed out roughly 2 years ago. This is also one of the longest console generations, having gone for 7 years without replacement. Footage of games like MGS Ground Zeroes and Watch Dogs are almost certainly taken on next gen consoles, not the PS3 or 360. I disagree. If Sony could wait 5 more years without releasing a new playstation, they would. They make money on the PS3. They will probably lose money or just make up the costs with the PS4 at first. Also it is like Desides said, this is the longest time between any two new console's life. It is actually kind of impressive they were able to make it this long without releasing a new console.

I could dig this, provided it doesn't include an insane subscription service fee...... http://www.theverge.com/2013/2/25/4...-download-subscription-possibility/in/3774815
Think the PS4 will sell out? Reason i ask is because I have launch-day on Amazon, and put $100.00 down at my local Gamestop today. If I can't re-sell i'll be over-extending myself. If memory serves though, selling out is a good bet?
As of right now PS4 seems to have the momentum. The key is to flip it quick while people are still in a frenzy. Don't wait around. I remember with the PS3 I waited for a better offer when I had a decent one on the table. In the amount of time I waited, demand plummeted.
I'm pretty sure it'll sell out. For at least a week or two. You may not get the iPhone-like $1500 for it. But at the very least you'll get one or two hundred bucks over what you're paying.
About what I figured. Hell, I'll hold on to both, and cancel one if it looks like they're going to have enough stock for the holiday season.
Rumor that the release date is being announce next month.....we shall see... http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/07/sony-ps4-release-date-to-be-announced-at-gamescom-rumor/
Those vents are pretty big. I wonder if fan noise is going to be an issue…
I think the shape is tricking your eyes. The PS3 slim is curved, so it appears smaller than the box-stacked-on-box design of the PS4. Inevitable, but somewhat amusing.
Yeah I posted that before even watching the vid, it is clearly smaller than the 3. I will stand it up as well....I like the vents, they seem to be trying to maximize airflow....
Disagreed. If they were maximizing airflow, there would be intakes. There are only exhaust vents. I'm starting to think the fan noise on this thing will be pretty noticeable.
Oh my bad that's what I thought those were...thing is though Des you put a box fan in a window and it points out to take hot air inside, outside....same concept no?
Rooms are larger than the PS4's case and aren't as hot as electronics. Room temperature in Celsius is about 20 degrees. You can expect the PS4's components to run at about 70 Celsius.
70 Celsius is moderate. Intel CPUs have a temperature threshold of 100 Celsius, for instance. Not that they routinely reach that temperature, but that they're operational until 100 Celsius.
Is it holiday season yet? Seriously I havent played PS3 since E3, I am done and just want the new one.... Although I have to finish Arkham City because the 3rd one is coming to PS4.....
