Miami doesn't need any more receivers performing at a 5 million dollar level unless it's Matthews or a rookie stepping up; what the offense needs is a receiver or two performing at an 8-10 million dollar level, and no matter how well some 2 to 4 million dollar FA outperforms his contract he still won't be producing at the 8-10 million dollar level this offense needs. End of story.

Where the laws of economics are more applicable is with us paying $6 million/year for 5 years to a receiver who will likely perform at a 4-5 million dollar level when we could've gotten similar production from a less expensive FA or a 2nd/3rd round draft pick. On the flip side, if we need a 9+ million dollar performing guy we simply can't will any ole 3-5 million dollar guy into that type of level. We either go after it or we allow the offense to settle for continued mediocrity.

Comparatively speaking, if Wallace is getting $12 million, then Harvin should get about $18 million. That's how much better Percy Harvin is than Mike Wallace.

    Lol!

I find it funny you TRIED to attack Wallace's character and then prop Percy I threw a weight at my Coach Harvin on some pedestal and pretend he had no character issues.

    EDIT:

By the way, isn't Harvin a bad route runner? Also mails it in sometimes a la Randy Moss?>

Harvin is a nutcase diva. Wallace is no saint, but compared to harvin, he is pretty damn clean.

I think Wallace is clean compared to any athlete. He doesn't have a history of off field issues, fighting with coaches or teammates, or complaining about passes his way. At least, I haven't seen any of it.

If we sign Wallace, character is the last thing to worry about.

Jennings did have 12 TDs in 2010, 9 TDs in 2011, and 4 in just 8 games in 2012. I'm most concerned with getting a guy who will get 8-13 Touchdowns.

I do wonder why the Steelers are getting rid of Wallace. They're a smart organization that knows how to win, basically the opposite of the Dolphins for the past 10 years. I mean, look at Santonio Holmes.

Whatever, I'll just be happy to have an exciting WR who I'm not afraid will drop it in the endzone everytime, which both would fill.

12mil is high for Wallace. I'd rather have him for 10mil. However, IMO assuring that we can put talented weapons around Tannehill is worth an extra 1.5% of the cap to make it happen. Long term, Wallace's contract may be an issue... but in the short term, getting talent around Tannehill is critical to his development. If we dont stunt Tannehill's growth and properly surround him with talent to allow him to succeed... that is worth 1 troublesome contract all day every day. If Tannehill pans out... thats all that matters. We'll deal with the one contract taking up an extra 1.5% than it should be later on...

And, sure enough, we have just that (you could see it coming a mile away) - via Ben Volin:

    http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2013/03/11/talking-points-all-sign-point-to-miami-dolphins-landing-wr-mike-wallace/

It's exactly this kind of stuff that I despise. And it almost always creates a jinx. Hopefully not, but.... Volin will forever be anathema in my book for this if it doesn't happen.

I trust Ben Volin too. He's been pretty solid, along with David Hyde & Barry Jackson IMO. Although Jeff Darlington is national now, he's still very reliable also.
I think we will land Mike Wallace. I think when the numbers first come out, there will be a bit of a gasp, but once we get details of the contract we can make final judgment.

    I like Sedano.

But he doesn't know ****. He knows the same people I know (people at the Fins hate his guts, and I just don't know anybody over there now (personnel side)

he is hearing the same things I have been hearing since about the 22nd of February. That Mike Wallace is a done deal to Miami.

For whatever reason, it has been in "somebody's" interest to make sure that every media member (starting with Omar Kelly) propagated this air of inevitability on Mike Wallace.

Jennings didn't produce anywhere near $8 million this past year, did he? He produced at about a $1-2 million level. Nor was he able to fall back on route running and physicality. Yes, it was presumably due at least to some extent on health issues, but that's the problem. He may continue to have those issues.

On the Steelers Forums i'm lurking, i've been going back and forth on a few different sites just about the whole MW stuff, posted some positive responses in the other thread. This post screamed out more than most others, and the poster seems to be a reliable mod/admin there with like 40k posts. (take it for FWIW, aka nothing, grain of salt.).

I don;t see how the Vikings, after unloading all of these contracts....aren't players for Mike Wallace.

What I find interesting is that the leaks of contract numbers started at 60 for 5..and now it is silent in that front.

If he produced at a 1-2 million level with 8 TD's. I'd hate to see what you rate Hartline at.

I think the Vikes are gonna come in at the 11th hour and swoop him up for more than we are willing to pay. I also think this is possibly a smoke screen by our FO so we can land Jennings. Just a hunch. We should all know in about an hour or so.

Agree - though with an additional 1st rounder and all this cap space they may be making the smart play and going for Victor Cruz.

Wallace would still actually have to WANT to go to Minnesota, so it's not just about "whoever offers the most money gets him". What's Wallace's take home pay in Florida vs Minnesota?

He didn't have 8 TDs. He had 4 and less than 400 yards and a paltry 10.2 ypr. With maybe the league's best QB throwing to him in an offense in which every other WR was much more productive. But if you think 366 yards and 4 TDs is worth $8 million per year, we can agree to disagree.

Looking back at my post, I guess I did. I meant Jennings as I was responding to KB's argument that Jennings is much more likely to be worth $8M than Wallace is $12M. My bad.
