Gibson on Board, too !! Ben Volin @BenVolinPBP RT @AdamSchefter: Former Rams WR Brandon Gibson agreed to terms with Dolphins. Miami active. Woooot !!!
I'm positively "meh" about this signing. Gibson is a decent WR, I guess. But I don't think he adds anything to the offense that we don't already have.
It doesn't seem like a good year to load up on WR in free agency, what with the draft depth, but I guess we could still pick one or 2 on draft day.

Poor man's Brian Hartline on a team that already has Brian Hartline. Hard to see why on this one. He's not even faster than Davone Bess, let alone better than him. And it means they're not taking a wide receiver in the Draft until Day 3 at the earliest. Oh you can deny that all you want, all you Tavon Austin wishful thinkers out there. But you mark me on this one.
Not one I was keen on, but they must like something about him as have been chasing him for last couple of days. Might put Bess future in doubt?
BenVolinPBP Gibson (6-0, 205) is a 5th year pro out of Washington St. Had 51 catches for 691 yards and 5 TDs last year for St. Louis. 25 years old 57 seconds ago · reply · retweet · favorite OmarKelly RT @AdamSchefter: Former Rams WR Brandon Gibson agreed to terms with Dolphins. Miami active.
Not a huge fan of this signing. What does it add? Interested to see the numbers. I really wanted Tavon Austin, unless they're going to dump Bess.
It means, based on how we finish up the OL here in FA, that we are going D with #12. We have to get a starting CB and we can't count on 2nd round talent for a shut down corner.
Once again you would think the second coming of Naanee on here. I was one of Naanee's biggest critics. And I learned from that. I am pulling for the kid to prove us all wrong. I am not saying the signing is justified. I am just pulling for him.
He's tall at least right? Maybe Miami plans to pull a Green Bay and go 4 deep with Gibson as the #4? Trade Bess...draft Tavon still? ;p
I think Jeff Ireland wants to do a sequel for Hard Knocks just so he can get on camera and say, "Now I have a bunch of 1's, 2's and 3's".
IMO, this or about any signing, just by itself, is not enough to give an accurate picture of who we're gonna draft.
The GOOD about Brandon Gibson: 1. He's a solid route runner on comebacks, stop routes and fades. 2. He shows the potential for really solid hands and flashy catches. 3. He's 25 years old and could still be getting better. The BAD about Brandon Gibson: 1. He has vagina feet after the catch. 2. Inconsistent route runner on slants and in-breaking routes. 3. An "almost" guy. Almost a dazzling catch. Almost got his feet in bounds, etc. 4. Practically useless on vertical routes because he's slow. And I feel I'm being kind in the above description.
Yeah looks like no wr the draft now. All that tape I was watching was a waste of time. Tannehill must succeed now. Pressures on him. He's got wallace , hartline, Bess, Gibson, Keller and miller out the back field.
You can take this one to the bank as it comes from Adam Schefter. The Dolphins, who have already spent big on two receivers this offseason, are adding another in the shape of Brandon Gibson. A reliable target for the Rams last year, Gibson actually finished second in the league in terms of target to first down or touchdown conversion. He’s likely ticketed for a number three receiver role but it will give the Dolphins three guys, none of whom have much experience working from the slot. ~ from PFF
Watching a bunch of tape when you have no control over who the Dolphins draft is a waste of time either way.
Not much better than Bess but its only a 1 year deal so... Unlikely we spend a high pick on a WR this year.
IMO, we cannot say that is an absolute certainty. None other than Bess are a slot and he's in the final year of his deal. I could see us still taking Austin and trading Bess.
I don't think this signing has any impact what so ever on whether a wr is drafted or not. I still see Austin and maybe others at play.
I'll riot if we cut Bess or won't re-sign him next year!!! Gibson makes no sense with so much talent in this years draft class at WR, imo!!!
IMO i think we still draft a WR in the 2nd round, latest 3rd round. However if this guy got more than 3M per year, i'll be disappointed.
I don't think this really means anything about drafting a wide receiver just from this information. I think it does narrow down the scope of potential future moves. Any further movement would come at Davone Bess' expense, and would likely be a slot receiver. I think the scope of the resources invested and the players on the roster probably makes a more two tight end oriented offense unlikely.
Depth maybe? I'm still feeling she sting from thinking that Dansby and Burnett were good players who didn't deserve to be cut so I'm wondering if Bess will get the axe. Gott see the $$$ amount Gib received but I'm thinking its be hard to get him in here to be a #4.
Let me expound more... I've taken a LONG look at Brandon Gibson. I did four games of his on coaches tape and I also watched the YouTube video someone did of every ball thrown his way in 2012. So anyone suggesting that I don't like him because I've not watched enough of him is doing so out of sheer ignorance. The GOOD: 1. Runs the comeback, fade-stop and back shoulder particularly well. These are important in this offense. 2. Capable of some eye popping catches at times, see the one-hander against Miami. 3. Still young at 25 years old, and could be ascending. The BAD: 1. Ssslooooowwww. Watch the coach's tape and he's covered. A lot. 2. He suffers from vagina foot after the catch (VFAC). No RAC ability. Goes out of bounds and to the ground willingly. 3. Inconsistent hands and ability to finish. Fails to negotiate the sidelines at times. Other times fails to haul in the ball. 4. Practically useless on vertical routes and crossers, any route he has to run a good deal of distance, because he's ssssloooww. 5. Unorthodox and unbalanced stance at the line, too much weight on front leg. Leads to reduced ability to beat the jam. 6. Consistent awareness issues (situations, 1st down marker, clock, blitzes, miscommunications, not ready for snap, etc). 7. Usage suggests coaches may be aware of intelligence issues. Tried to keep things simple for him. 8. Gives away some of his in-breaking routes at times, not necessarily as good at slant routes or digs which are also important.
CK likes Patterson more than T.Austin; he/she will find a way to still make Patterson a plausibility.
Gotta say, this is my first disappointment of the off-season so far. I think it's a colossal blunder IF we pass up an opportunity to draft a WR in this class on day 2. After Wallace, our WR core is still mediocre has all hell.
